People should be more hyped about X.
latest

It's the best mainline FF title that the Switch is getting.
I would get it if it wasn't for that waste of SD-card space of X-2. If they would sell it standalone I would immediately get it. Not with that turd attached though.

It's so poetic I could cry.

Final Fantasy VII is coming home to a cartridge-based Nintendo console. In fact, every singleplayer Final Fantasy game except XIII is now playable on a Nintendo console!

It's insane. After all these years, Nintendo is officially "back".

Because the Switch are getting ports of FF games? Why is this so magical to people? Nintendo brought Cloud to Smash Bros. and that was way more surprising than this.

Yeah i don't know about that, after it came out on basically everything and not long before a remake, it's not that glorious honestly..
At least if it had remastered backgrounds..

Why? They probably just put the Steam version and called it a day.

they werent doing even that for quite some time. in fact most believed xv and kh3 just had xbox versions because the deal was done long ago and square would bail from the console (and it surely looked like that for some time). then automata came and did okay enough to justify more ports, i guess.

I mean what's sassy about pointing out that OP is talking about FF VII being on a Nintendo console after all those years and it being the game that started the abysmal 3rd party situation Nintendo has been in since?
I don't think Xbox has not the same history with FF that Nintendo and Sony have with the game and each other.

I'm not surprised, I didn't understood why it didn't happen yet. It seems to me like an obvious port to happen.

Although, no one is talking about World of Final Fantasy : Maxima and that makes me Sad

FFVIi was meant to come out on N64. Square decided to take them to PS as the cd room was way cheaper than cartridges. Word on the street sayes Nintendo told them not to go back to them. So yeah, big news that FFVIi is finally coming to a Nintendo device.

honestly I understand why some people don't get the significance of this announcement

if you weren't around for the SNES and the transition to the N64 and the PS1 entering the market these are probably just old ports to you

Switch is the first Nintendo platform since the SNES where bringing these types of games to the console actually makes commercial sense. The hardware sales are there, but more importantly, the audience consists of the types of users that will actually purchase this content, unlike, say, Wii.

This tired ass, trite "audience" argument. FF VII would have had move units on the N64, GameCube, 3DS, DS etc. FF VII is a fucking turn based RPG game. There is no "audience" for a turn based game on a Nintendo system, you must be not be paying attention to Nintendo's "audience".

It's definitely a cool moment when put in historical context. Square's "betrayal" of Nintendo with FF7 pretty drastically shaped the industry. Nice to see it finally showing up on a Nintendo platform ^_^

It's the historical significance of it that's just a big deal. It's like the first time Sonic appeared on a Nintendo console, only bigger, because FF7 was originally intended to stay in Nintendo's corner.

That meme of the Wii U outside the window, but it's FF8
Shoot, I forgot FF8 just like everyone always does. Lol. Tbf though Squeenix evidently did too.

Yet Nintendo brought the main character from said game into their most popular franchise. Then having the game on the system isn't exactly world changing especially considering Crash Bandicoot is coming with Spyro. It's all about the money.

yeah its hella interesting also see this thread lol

might be the first time I playe 7 ...if the remake doesn't come out before 2020 T_T

That doesn't make sense. Final Fantasy XIII was released on the Xbox 360 in 2010. Plus the Nintendo DS and 3DS had plenty of Square-Enix games thanks to their strong sales, especially in Japan. It's more likely that Square-Enix didn't support Nintendo's home consoles for awhile because the GC sold poorly, they didn't know what to do with the Wii, and the Wii U sold poorly.

EB Games Australia have physical copies for pre order, but I remember when they once jumped the gun and had Mega Man 11 on switch for pre-order... Aus and Eur know how that turned out.

I got very emotional. And hyped, 'cause those games need to be played on any system. Portable FF XII is also a huge deal.

I'm sure Iwata would have been very happy with all that is happening around Nintendo. Too bad he died in the worst possible moment, after the huge E3 2015 backlash. But I guess he knew things were going to be better.

P.S. Shoutout to Jonneh who actually nailed this madness

Guess your not old enough to know that the day FF left Nintendo for Sony was the day the 3rd party exodus started and it was the day Nintendo made the playstation brand a bigger competitor than Sega could've imagined. Yamauchi's stubbornness to not embrace CD's at that time for more digital storage contributed to SE, Capcom, and Konami, putting there big franchises to Sony. With SE now porting old Sony released FF titles, maybe SE has come full circle with Nintendo. Also Octopath Traveller probably helped speed up the deal as seeing those sales on a Nintendo console, gave SE a reason that Nintendo fans love JRPG's

People should just stop with the bullshit Sony barred SE.
It has always been 100% fanboy speculation and was just proven untrue today.
If PS1/PS2 hasn't been ported to other consoles before, it's purely SE's business decision.

Also, people with 0 understanding of corporate governance should stop saying things they don't understand.
Shareholders has no impact on the day-to-day decision making, it's all in the hand of management.
The only thing shareholders can do is threaten to change the management and if SE is doing well, 18% is not even near enough to change CEO or board of directors.
Another thing they can do is dump their portion of shares on the market, but that is extremely unlikely to happen just because someone release old ports to your competitors.

The game is as old as me. I don't understand it.
The game pretty much was one of the main reasons PS1 took off, left the N64 behind and is the poster child of third parties abandoning Nintendo, which went on for as long as you're alive. Until today.
Hell it was probably the main reason, FF had a lot of pull back then. It's also one of the most higly regarded games ever.

Those ports are really not telling of 3rd party support. It just seemed like SE has a reason to dump them onto the Switch. Easy cash.
