Well there wasn't a new metroid AT shown off, but a bunch of other things made up for that.

I'm thinking this cause of their inconsistency in numbering them. Sometimes they count the echoes and sometimes they don't. "Over 70 characters" works both ways with 3 more unique characters but that would mean only 2 more echo characters, which seems very low

No, but Shadow has been one the most consistently predicted echoes after E3.

'Isabelle doesn't like conflict' was the one that got me the most heated.
"Isabelle sits behind a desk all day" was wayyyy too common, I'm actually not surprised at the reaction. I think there's a lot of people who don't play Animal Crossing or haven't played it in a long time because it was very apparent that Isabelle would show up playable in some form or another.
Isabelle was one of the last mascot Nintendo characters. We're getting into true obscurity now.
No, echoes for whatever reason have not been leaked as much as the newcomers.
Dark Samus had SIGNIFICANT amount of hints before her reveal though just from circumstantial evidence, to a point where pretty much everyone here agreed she was a lock
Kapp'n didn't really replace Isabelle.
They are completely different ATs. Nothing is stopping them from adding additional ATs to a series, there isn't some magic quota.
Some characters just won't be fighters or ATs this time around.

They weren't considered echoes at the time. Clones have always been considered newcomers havent they? Ganon and Falco were for example
If I were to foolishly try and figure a general roadmap of what's left for ultimate characters...
- The obligatory pokemon
- Third Party rep (Namco?)
- Third Party rep returns (Square?)
- One more Nintendo character of timely project plan relevance (Chorus Kids/Dixie/Dee/Elma)
- two echoes (Shadow and Ken)
Sakurai is forced into DLC
- Rex
- Spring Man
- Another Nintendo character based on ballot wants/internet ramblings
- Third Party Rep (Ryu Hayabusa damn it!)
- two or three echoes based also on internet ramblings (Octolings, Celica etc)
There's my prediction to be absolutely swatted down by Sakurai logic, why did I even bother?

Exactly. Some series already had two ATs already. For example, Kat, Ana and Ashley were all in Smash 4.

I mean it's just splitting hairs here but Isabelle is getting the full newcomer treatment with a trailer and everything, and is categorized as one on the website. All I'm saying is that Smash 4 didn't have any semiclone newcomers. And even though the echo name wasn't official yet, did not treat it's clones to the level of normal newcomers.
I wonder Sakurai is still opposed to putting real guns in the game. It would be a real shame to have half of Shadow's personality be nerfed because of E10+Wait a minute...

At this rate, it feels like Vergeben's Square rep is probably the only thing left to be super hype for. Inceniroar is nearly guaranteed to predictably take up another one of the limited newcomer slots, and now Isabelle has open the door for more semi-clones to get in over 100% unique newcomers.

Still wondering what Square rep it could be.
My thought is that it's Dragon Quest since 11 is supposed to release on Switch. But then again, Sora is in my heart.
To be fair Sakurai also said he didn't ever expect to see Ridley or Daisy included.
