I don't think a 3DS successor is happening, Switch is their handheld now. But I do agree on the other points, feels like lately they're just trying to get by with ports and updates to previously launched until they finally have titles to release, which stinks because from it looks like we're going to have to wait yet ANOTHER year to get anything.

I sure did love the Switch in it's first year, played it tons, now it's just been one "already played this" port after another...
its either that or nothing at all.

pick one.

The fact is that a lot of these ports are from a system that not a lot of people owned...and as such they are virtually new games for them.
Its an easy way to make sure peeps have something to play while other games are being made. Sony and Microsoft did the same thing w/ the PS4 and XB1....for peeps who didn't have the previous console or just wanted to replay those games. It is a classic method of padding the lineup AND getting experience on the new hardware. It is all apart of the console release schedule only its been moved to the second year instead of first due to Nintendo doing fuck all as the Wii U died. It is what it is.

Lightning for Smash
Quick thoughts. 7/10 direct for me. It was very fun.

+ Final Fantasy. So fucking hyped for this, I'll for sure buy VII,IX and X for the 1000th time. Not a fan of XII, WoF or CC.
+ Daemon x Machina still looks sick. Day 1
+ Town - Very curious what GF can do with the switch, what I saw has me excited for Gen 8.
+ Yoshi - Looks 1000x times better, it def needed the delay.

- No Fire Emblem. This is very strange, we either have a FE direct or I think it's getting delayed.
- Luigi's Mansion 3 looks very rough, like Yoshi when they showed it. I'm sure it will look better next year.
- $60 for NES controllers lol
- They still can't say anything about the switch rewards, what the hell?
- Isabelle. 0% hype.

Neutral about the other stuff. Including Animal Crossing. I'm aware it is a megaton though. Happy for you guys!

Utter shit seriously. To me, everything looked like shovelware, with half-assed budgets and seriously lacking any ambition. Weak stuff all around.
Swith will remain my Indie machine but geez Nintendo's output is so disappointing after an amazing 2017 year. So sad we have to wait even furher for greatness in the second part of 2019, maybe, hopefully.

Wow... I didn't realize how completely opposite the perspectives of Smash fans and Animal Crossing fans were. That was disturbing.

Oh, the meltdowns make more sense now that I realize the Smash symbol didn't transition into the trailer.

So, solid Direct even if none of my dream list appeared (XCX, Mario Maker, Metroid Prime Trilogy, Fatal Frame Collection, Castlevania news...) because I know most of them will come eventually (sooner than later).

Very excited about Luigi's Mansion 3, the boardgame titles (Pandemic, Munchkin, Carcassonne, Catan... hoping other boardgame companies like Fantasy Flight follows suit with Mansions of Madness, Star Wars Rebellion, Battlestar Galactica, Arkham Horror... would be amazing for online multiplayer and local multiplayer), many of the Final Fantasy games (seeing the PS1 games on a Nintendo system is one of those things that people of my age would never expect even if the craziest dreams... easily this made this ND historic), Mario Bros U Deluxe, Diablo III and many others...

Very happy overall (and worried because I don't think I have enough time to play so many great games coming!

Its a shame the direct got delayed because I think the leaks are hurting the reaction here.

This was Nintendo's best Direct this year, including the E3's event.

So let me get this straight: diablo 3, civilization 6, final fantasy 7, 9, 10 and 12, katamari are announced for a Nintendo console. Animal crossing, Luigi's mansion 3, along with a 2d Mario (port i get it) and a new RPG from Game Freak that's a new IP. And not. Being. Satisfied.

Nintendo has come so far. I literally have no idea what else they could be doing to make people happy.

3ds section of the direct was like 3 minutes too.

That direct has me so hyped for the switch as a platform. I would have laughed if you told me in 2016 that the next Nintendo console would get games like doom, Wolfe stein, Skyrim, civ, diablo, final fantasy, etc.

the animal crossing dog is an echo or her own fighter? strange choice btw
Isabelle looks to be a semiclone, so like Lucas or Luigi. She's also extremely popular, she's was in Mario Kart 8 as DLC and in the base game for MK8D, and is basically the face of the Animal Crossing series at this point.

And the steaming hot takes continue!

Thought it's a over exaggeration of the direct, they showed ports on top of ports/remasters, and games that we knew about. Animal crossing was coming everyone knows that series is a huge seller, we knew about Yoshi which looks like they are trying to go the epic yarn way only with different aesthetic. Another character that honestly doesn't need to be in a direct it can be a secret in the game like half of the roster use to be before we had youtube. There was very little to be excited for if you are looking for new first party nintendo games.

Genuinely, I feel like people are way too hard to please. Not everything here appealed to me but this was probably the biggest variety of games ever shown in a Direct. Not everything will be for you now that this machine is a mainstream success.

Direct was awesome. So much meat on the bone here it's tough to dissect it all.

Switch's 2019 is looking monstrous:

Luigi's Mansion 3
Fire Emblem Three Houses
Super Mario U Deluxe (meh but cool for those that want it)
Pokemon Gen 8
Town from Gamefreak
Daemon X Machina
Animal Crossing
Yoshi's Crafted World
Potentially Metroid Prime 4 and Bayonetta 3?

That's...a lot of Nintendo games on top of the third party games that'll show up in 2019.

Online service presentation was the only real downside. The video itself was adorable but it wasn't a great sell for the service. They say in so many words what is ultimately every other service but they say it in such a confusing way that it makes everybody hate it.

Holy shit ERA, you guys are embarrassing.

Like, so predictable. Every time we always make fun of the "SELLING MY SWITCH, TERRIBLE DIRECT" that happens after each one, and you guys still keep doing it

Did that Yokai Watch console rpg (?) get covered in the JP direct?

Also really curious at the lack of No More Heroes showing up on these things.

Then why ever bother getting excited for a Direct? By this logic, all the big IP's are eventually coming, everybody knows that.

Probably more popular, new current games from 3rd parties.

Lol they will answer you "Nintendo's only announcing logos... and no, Luigi's Mansion 3 doesn't count because it looked BAD ! Oh, by the way : no Fire Emblem trailer ? Really Nintendo, another delay ?"

Very very good direct, awesome.

It was a solid Direct for me.

I don't get EZA negativism, just because a game is not announced the way you wished doesn't mean it's not a big reveal.

Civ 6 would have a been a "WTF" moment if it wasn't accidentally announced already.

That's my honest, frank take, as a huge Nintendo fan. Their 2018 and early 2019 first party line-up is ABYSMAL. There's not too way around it, if you even care about a little greatness, and not just OK games. But to each its own standards I guess.

Ok dude, all you needed to do was add that you were selling your Switch and it would have been a top hot take.

I'd like to remind to the "ugh, why are you guys so excited ?!" folks that people, as surprising and bewildering as it may be, have different preferences and not everyone own every single console or every single game made in the last years or beyond.

Sharing your opinion about the direct is one thing, but being passive-aggressive about other people's excitement sounds unnecessary. We can discuss and compare our perspectives, but let's try not to make others feel guilty about being happy about what was shown, ok ?

That said, any advice for what I should write on the tombstone of my wallet ?
