I would add that I think it also looks bad from a stylistic perspective. Anything that drenched in red is going to get a pass from me.

It's called an artstyle and having a visual identity. I think it looks way better stylistically than from a technical perspective. Those colors with the really dark shadows just looks good to me.

I feel like most of the announcements at this Direct should have been revelead at this year's E3 if Nintendo didn't concentrated all the spotlight at Smash. NSMBU DX, Yoshi and Luigi's Mansion 3 should easily have been announced there. Same goes for Cities Skylines, Civ VI and Katamari Damacy Reroll. I don't get the need for this unnecessary oversecrecy for some Switch titles.

2018 on switch has been a string of disappointments for me, with occasional rays of hopes such as Warframe, Doom eternal and Civilization. Nintendo seems to be satisfied with an avalanche of ports on their system, and with mobile or goodc editions of some big games; good for them. I hope 2019 will be better. But I just think that they just do not have much else to show besides logos, compilations, and ports of mostly technically unambitious games.

This has been a fear of mine that got stronger after this direct:
  • Only two new game announcements, one with barely half a minute of gameplay and the other with only a logo, making me think we're getting neither in the Fall.
  • Metroid Prime 4 and Bayonetta 3 still nowhere to be found.
  • Fire Emblem Three Houses looking sort of rough at E3, and nothing new at this direct, makes me think that it's not going to make it's Q2 2019 date.
All that's left for the first six months of the year are Yoshi, Daemon, and NSMB...

The switch has been out for over a year...fucking relax my guys/gals. Most consoles don't have the first year it had in terms of games, and now we are seeing why. We are basically experiencing the new consoles first year drought...in its second year. That is the price to pay for the packed year one. Anyone expecting anything different can only blame themselves at this point...after the lack of new shit announced at the first direct and e3...it was told that this year was going to be lax on new shit and to expect a lot of ports. Yall gotta learn to adjust your expectations accordingly to prevent the level of buttmad that often comes after these things.

I thought this Direct was lackluster but I also didn't have stupid high hopes either. AT the end of the day, it showed off some neat new announcements, while also letting people know that AC is coming in '19...y'kno the year they have the next gen of Pokemon, a new FE, and potentially a new Metroid Prime and Bayo 3?

I'm surprised nobody is talking about Wolf in Starlink. He looks dope, and so does the game.
Animal Crossing knocked him out of my brain, but yeah, he did look great. The previews also made me really interested in the game, reminded me a lot of PC spaceship games and the cinematics are great. I think this could end up as a great title.

Were it not for Smash, I feel like my Switch would be going on a whole year of not getting used. Seriously, all the directs this year were just "ports, ports, and more ports," I'm so tired of it. Don't get me wrong, I'm excited for what Nintendo themselves have to offer next year as what they announced in this direct all look great, albeit, I've played enough New Super Mario Bros U so I'm covered there, and Luigi's Mansion 3 barely getting shown off and there only being a logo for Animal Crossing Switch makes me think those games are a waaaaays off.

But third parties just releasing a bunch of ports on the Switch is just so unappealing to me at this point, if someone can correct me, I don't think a single third party announced an original new game in that Direct (I'm not counting the Katamari Damacy remaster).

Also just where is Fire Emblem, Metroid Prime 4, and Bayonetta 3? I know they can do Directs for those games specifically, but at this point I'm pretty sure neither of the latter two are going to come out before the Fall 2019, and I'm also not sure at this rate if Fire Emblem will come out before Q2 2019.

So right now all that interests me on the Switch are about six original games developed by Nintendo and nothing else. Here's to hoping we hear some more original Switch announcements come TGS next week, but at this point the hope I have is very minimal.
I truly believe that this whole year has shown Nintendo was not ready to launch their system when they did but knew they had to because they couldn't go another year of having nothing for the Wii U and relying on NES classic, and 3DS to make up their revenue for the year.
Honestly year 1 of switch outside of the initial releases had very little third party, and a ton of indie which now seems to be flooding the store.
I just didn't buy my switch for those games. If anything I bought it for first party NIntendo games. If I had known it was going to be like this in terms of releases, I would have bought a new 3DS instead that has a larger library and in my opinion is made up of mostly first party, and third party exclusives.

If they do go through with a 3DS successor then I will sell my switch for sure and get that.
I honestly thought when they talked years ago about all developers from 3DS/homeconsole being under one roof, I got excited and thought ports of 3DS or remastered 3DS games along with Nntendo classics on the store were going to be what I would see when it comes to the ESTORE.

it truly feels like I guess the first couple PS4 years, where indie had a big push and focus until their first party, third party exclusives started rolling out. But the thing is they had great third party games until those came out to fill in the void.
This direct along with their laughable online service just shows out of touch they are and don't think they need to at least be competent. The fact that cloud saves are not for all games is a complete joke. The fact that the old software that was on the Wii U backend is somehow showing it's head on the switch with how multiplayer ranking is saved locally just boggles my mind.
So cloud saves for Splatoon 2 are out I guess according to what I'm reading and same goes for Pokemon where you pay an extra 5 dollars? Like wtf? I don't care about the 5$, I care that your offering part of a service, and one that doesn't make sense when compared to the rest of the industry that has had online multiplayer ranking stored on servers not the console itself.
Been nice as well to see a trailer or something for Bayonetta 3, and metroid 4 just to give a shout out that they are alive but will need more time.

Seeing 2019 games also shows very little.
The only thing I got excited for was Capcom collection game, and the Ex Mahcina mech game.
Seeing so many random people hyped and excited for what they showed has me bewildered to all hell.

I guess when it comes to Nintendo Standards are just lax and if they put out any game it;s positive for the system is how I am reading the reactions.

Rant over, jesus that direct was not worth waiting.

That was seriously one of the worst directs ever. Wow, it was completely pointless.

Glad Isabelle is a character though. And at least everyone will shut up about where is Animal Crossing now

Very strong direct. Congrats to Nintendo for actually getting third parties excited for Nintendo platforms again.

Capcoms beat em up bundle was a cool surprise for me

All the Final Fantasies (except one of my facorites) will be playable in bed. Cant wait to
dive in 9 and 12 again.

Luigi's Mansion 3 is probably the big holiday 2019 game. Cant wait!

I already am downloading Cities skyline.

That Daemon x Machina game is looking better by the day. Trailer is looking really good.

Town looks interesting.

Mario bros U Deluxe was expected but a great fit for Switch non the less. I will be getting that one for some wife co op.

2019 is shaping up to be a much better year with more content and oroginal titles from january onward.

How is everyone feeling guys? I am pumped for 2018
It was a solid 8/10 for me, probably would have been 9 if I hadn't know about Civ ahead of time. Really happy about Animal Crossing. Online stuff was kinda meh. Definitely getting Diablo III, Super Mario Party, Smash, and some other games shown off.

I don't think a 3DS successor is happening, Switch is their handheld now. But I do agree on the other points, feels like lately they're just trying to get by with ports and updates to previously launched until they finally have titles to release, which stinks because from it looks like we're going to have to wait yet ANOTHER year to get anything.

I sure did love the Switch in it's first year, played it tons, now it's just been one "already played this" port after another...

Seriously fuck this piece of shit garbage game. What a fucking disgusting thing to do. I'm so fucking over this company pandering to a SINGULAR segment of fans THAT ONLY WANT ONE THING.

Edit: Ok, direct saved again. Oof. What a rollercoaster of emotions.

In what ways, exactly?

  • It had great indie games like Switch does
  • It had third party content like Batman, Splinter Cell, Rayman, ZombiU, Burnout, Tekken, Assassin's Creed, Deus Ex - obviously some of it late and some better elsewhere, but it was there
  • Miiverse literally shits on this mobile app abomination they're foisting on us, it provided the console a better sense of community than the switch currently enjoys
  • It had a (good!) web browser
  • It had YouTube, Netflix, Hulu and.. Napster for some reason
  • It had great unique first party content: Nintendo land, Art Academy Atelier, Wii Sports with online, Super Mario 3d World, Super Mario Maker, Pikmin 3, Captain Toad, Tropical Freeze, Pushmo
  • Wind Waker HD and Twilight Princess HD
  • Backwards compatibility with Wii, and robust virtual console offering. Switch still doesn't have that. We're getting pay walled NES games.
  • Until Super Mario Odyssey, the Switch's best game was a game originally developed for the Wii U - Breath of the Wild
  • Wii U had some great exclusives in the first few years like W101 and Bayonetta 2, ZombiU etc.
Switch gets too much of a pass for just having a nice form factor, zippy OS and two unbeatable games. Yes there's a lot of good content and the design idea is good, but for me they're not exploiting it as well as they should be. It feels like regression to me sometimes. I can't fathom why the online service was delayed based on that presentation. I'm not seeing the benefits I thought I would from them having one target platform either. Probably because they're still targeting other platforms.

It's cool other people were feeling it, I just didn't.

So what was that rumor by what's-her-face (lara?) who said that a specific game made it clear why the Direct was delayed?

I haven't scoured all of the pages to find out, but is it just me or did Nintendo stealth drop a bomb... The Smash Bros. Switch bundle is coming out November 2nd. Does that mean the game itself got moved up a month?

Super fucking hyped about the Luigi's Mansion 3 teaser! I'm also glad to finally see that Yoshi isn't dead and has a name, though 2019 is a bummer.

I'm also hyped about finally getting confirmation (though we knew it'd come eventually) that AC is coming to Switch next year. Kudos to Ninty on the fake-out where Isabelle seemed like she was going to drop the news, only to have it turn into a Smash challenger reveal. I did chuckle at the Tom Nook bit at the end though.

All in all, I'm not disappointed. The only thing they left out that I was hoping for was Metroid Prime Trilogy HD on Switch.

"Game will not be playable until its official release date."

The official 2K trailer omitted the gameplay but showed the physical boxed copy and release date at the end. Cover art was pretty good for Civ6, and I am very tempted to buy physical even though it would be nice to have it digitally to always have it with me.
