Square Enix is ignoring Final Fantasy VIII

FF8 needs a full remake.

It's very confusing considering VIII sold far far more than IX. I am assuming Eyes On Me licensing issues?

It's a great game and deserves better.

I'm guessing it's much more tied to their older code base on PC and they haven't gotten around to updating it as heavy as they did for VII, or starting from scratch like IX.

The game needs major quality of life improvements before they rerelease it. It was a terribly broken game.

FF8 has a ton of fans.

It will get a proper remake (like a remaster with new asset, not like ff7).

They have no easy cash grab version to port around like the others.

And it's the best one too...

Maybe the licensing for the "Eyes on Me" song could be the issue? Kinda like Crisis Core and GACKT + Ayaka's song.

Or maybe they can't use the Steam port without some finagling.

It's like Namco ignoring Hwang, right.

Perfect reply. This game is actual garbage compared to its contemporaries (VII/IX) and doesn't deserve any attention. We got all we needed. We're out.

But naw, since next year is it's 20th anniversary, I have to imagine that that is when Square will finally re-release it on the PS4 and Switch.

I want to play it very badly.

No, it isn't.

Next year is the 20th anniversary. They'll want a mobile port and it'll 100% come to other systems after. This is how SE rolls. Announcing all the other ports at once is the surprising thing.

I'm not a fan of the game at all, but yeah I'm confused. Like...people would buy it. It's one of the highest selling FFs isn't it?

How is the PC version of VIII? Bugs and non-looping music are issues with VII and IX on PC/PS4. Would rather play the PS1 versions on Vita tbh.

I would definitely but a PS4 version with the original PS1 score.

It's one of my all time favorites.

Final Fantasy VIII on PS4 has been something I've really wanted ever since VII dropped. I lost interest fairly on when I had the game on my PSP, but I've been able to get through VII and IX thanks to the PS4 ports.

I don't understand why Square Enix isn't making moves with it, or at least making it known. It's just so odd, as time goes by they do things with the other guys but skip over VIII entirely. If it was a licensing issue then surely their lawyers could work out an agreement?

There is more to it than them just ignoring it. They probably have big plans for a remaster or remake, or there are licensing issues.

But if there were licensing issues, I imagine that no version would be available digitally, including PS Classics and the one on Steam
