But why? What would necessitate the need of more sensors and cameras in the front? The notch is supposedly a stop-gap step before they figure out a way to hide the sensors behind the glass completely, with that in mind adding more of them would be counter-productive I think.
Cameras and sensors are one of the things that make smartphones as smart as they can possibly be.

And anytime I have the choice between hiding the camera behind the display and improving image quality, I'm gonna take improving image quality.

Not me. I'd take a front cam at potato quality if it meant all sensors could be underneath the screen.

Ideally though, there'd be no compromise.
Someday.

95%

Daily charging via USB at night.
Trickle charging on work days via wireless pad.

Edit: since a day or two after launch.

had the X since launch day and it's at 89% but it doesn't feel like 89% to me.

yeah the larger screen and camera features are nice.

not sure if $1250 nice.

I wouldn't go from an X to an XS.
The MAX is so tempting tho just for glorious screen real estate.
I will surely swoon at seeing an XS Max display but I can't justify the size. Swore it off when I moved from 6s+ to X and couldn't be happier with the compromise between real estate and how it handles. Very glad they didn't give the Max extra camera features (or pixel density) this time around and stopped making it a Sophie's choice. I hope it stays that way, and I'll stick with the 5.8".

I wouldn't go from X to XS either.

This is where they got me sucked in on the iUP. Is it $1250 nice? Probably not. Is it $4 more a month on iUP nice than my current iPhone X? Probably. That's where these damn device financing plans get you, it seems like such an arbitrary amount to upgrade to the latest phone.

This is exactly where I was after going from a 7 Plus to the X. In a lot of ways it's still where I'm at. The X has gotten me hooked on phones with a huge screen/body ratio. I would never go back to the Plus form factor as it seems like wasted space. But give me the Plus sized phone that is almost all screen? Yes please!

Gonna upgrade to an X next year, but in the mean time I have a 6S, I'm still running 9.3 though - should I update to the latest iOS or just keep avoiding updates?

If I update it, am I still eligible for the cheap battery replacements or is that finished/for different models?

iOS 12 comes out next week and supposedly performs very well on old models so I'd see what people who update say next week

Cheap battery replacements are available through December in the USA

For basic day to day use you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference in performance between an iPhone 6S and iPhone X on iOS 12. A9 is still a champ.

I have both phones and god if the gap isn't noticeable between them. That low RAM flushing apps out of memory aggressively isn't going to show up on a video but in terms of real-world use is it a big minus for me. That video is a pretty ramshackle attempt at comparing the two device also.

There's only a 1GB RAM difference, and frankly I never have RAM issues on my A9 devices. Even the iPhone 8 had the same 2GB of RAM as the 6S and 6S Plus.

1GB makes a massive difference when the older device only has 2GB ram to begin with. It's a 50% performance increase. Given Apple's memory management is so much better than Android that 1GB is even more telling in practice.

The extra legroom with the X has let the processor really shine. I have no doubts the A9 is a very fast SoC but everyone knows one of the gating factors was RAM.

People can get by fine with a 6s, but let's call apples Apples and say the X is a very significant performance bump for day-to-day use, let alone power use. I'm literally speaking from two years of the 6s being my main phone and one of the X being my main.

If you say so. I have genuinely never once found RAM to be a problem on an A9 device. I just opened a dozen apps on my 6S Plus and switched between them all with no reloads.

Just got one a couple of days ago. Upgraded from an SE. I am madly in love and wouldn't be surprised if I hold on to this for at least two years. I think my wife may divorce me after all the animojis I've bombarded her with.

Fingers crossed

I know this phone isn't the latest and greatest anymore but I've always wanted one and T-Mobile happened to offer me the right deal at the right time. So, I'm pretty excited. I hope it lasts me as long as my 6S Plus has (I got AppleCare of course, as well as a screen protector and case from Amazon). The XS Max looks nice as well but I can get whatever the biggest and best phone is in another 3 years after I wear out my shiny new X.

It gets here Tuesday and I'm psyched. The camera, Animojis, Face ID. That little bit of extra RAM will come in handy as well with the amount I use my phone.

How are y'all enjoying your iPhone XS? I have a Galaxy S7 Edge and been thinking of upgrading lately.
I've been meaning to get an iPhone forever, regretted not getting an iPhone 4 over the first Galaxy (god, that phone was fucking trash and the internet convinced me it was better than the iPhone 4 at the time) and somehow I've always ended up with an Android phone.
The S7 Edge was pretty good to me but it's starting to get old and the battery not lasting that long anymore.

I'm just amazed at how expensive that fucking thing is, the XR doesn't seem like a great deal for the price (local price, I don't live in the US) and the XS Max is even worse
I can get an S9+ for a good price and I'm sure it will be a great phone, I'm just sick of Galaxy phones and Android in general and I already own an iPad and a MacBook Pro so it seems like a no-brainer, even tho I'm not really locked into the iOS ecosystem because I rarely buy apps.

Are there any glaring problems with the XS like the bending issues the new iPads are suffering from or the keyboard issue with the newer MBP?

I've had my XS Max since launch day and I haven't had any problems with it so far. And with the speed that it has it should last for a while from the look of things.

Still on my regular X, and wondering if anyone else has an issue where their entire photo library just randomly "restores"? I popped my photos open to grab something, noticed everything at the end of my camera roll kept shifting downwards, and realized my phone was restoring my ENTIRE photo library. Is there something that triggers this?
