I see Joe Maddon is implementing the Tony LaRussa strategy of boring everyone to sleep with a ton of pitching changes

Good article on The Athletic about Dustin Ackley. Had completely lost track of the dude but he's apparently still kicking around in the Angels system playing at Salt Lake the last two years. And he still can't hit. And he refuses to try and change his mechanics/approach.

yay brewers, tied with wins with the cubs and only 1 game back (thanks to 2 extra losses in games played)

here's hoping the cubs continue to slump and the brewers continue to win.

In typical Mets fashion, this has been going on for 10 minutes and they haven't said he's retiring. I'm more confused than ever but my heart is breaking as David is up there crying.

So... is he retiring? Nobody has said it yet. What is going on? I mean, they're saying everything BUT that.

Come back and manage. Callaway can polish your shoes.

Yeah, thankfully the press corps coaxed it out of him. But still nobody has said the word retiring.

So apparently Joe Maddon is salty that the Cubs have to play 30 straight days on a row because of the weather rescheduling?

Huh. Maybe if the Cubs didn't cancel games due to rain on perfectly fine sunny days earlier in the season then they wouldn't be in that spot.

The Yankees don't deserve my powers.

I went through all that trouble writing a bizarre and embarrassing Phillies Phanatic fanfic to curse them, and ya can't even no hitter alert for the Yankees to put one measley run on the board. Hrmph.

The Phillies are 10-19 since August 9th. They were proxy embarrassed by my posting and they still haven't recovered.

Guessing he's not saying the word retire because of the contract implications?
Yep Same thing the Rangers did with Prince Fielder.

"For Fielder's benefit, this isn't specifically being called a retirement. Players who retire forfeit the remainder of their contracts. This wasn't Fielder's choice; he will never be medically cleared to play again. So calling it a retirement isn't technically correct. He's still due the remainder of his nine-year, $214 million contract, which runs through 2020."

Damn, I got a lil misty eyed watching that presser. I knew this was coming but it still sucks to see Wright's career end like this.

Take a drink every time Mike Wilbon complains about something people younger than him enjoy
