Why does every "story" backdrop for a racer have to be so bad and cringy.

I feel like racing game devs are doing this on purpose now. The "cutscenes" are hilariously bad.

I wonder if it appeals to mainstream 15 year olds or are they missing the mark with literally everyone?

I don't like how literally none of the avatars look like race car drivers. Would help if they were given racing gear by default.

they aren't meant to be race car drivers. Horizon games are meant to be dream vacations (well, dream life with H4 given the seasons) for regular people

It's good, but the game can't handle my Switch pro controller correctly. won't let me accelerate or turn the wheel with the controller but i can control the start menu and change camera controls with them. same shit in forza 6 apex so i assume it's something to do with MS not supporting it because they're being shits.

Use GloSC and run the demo through Steam.

You expected them to support Nintendo controllers? And they're "shits" because they don't?

How well are Xbox controllers supported on Switch by Nintendo? :)

So how does this run compared to FH3 on PC? I could never get a solid 60 on high settings (it would drop to ~45 in urban areas).
Seems to run better for me (1080ti, 3570k, >60fps at max settings 3440x1440), but I also feel like it doesn't look as good. Have yet to finish the intro races though because I only went through it once last night before the demo crashed.

Am I crazy or does this game not allow itself to be locked at 30FPS when on High preset? I feel like it automatically defaults to unlocked framerate on High, though it's a locked 30 on Medium preset..

Photo mode is now activated by pressing up on the d-pad (not sure if you're using a controller, or what). That's a nice thing "borrowed" from The Crew, imo.

Nah, up on the D-pad has been a photo mode shortcut since FH2, so before The Crew.

The carefree festival atmosphere appeals to me, a lot, and it seems that millions of others are finding it acceptable at the very least. Sometimes one character or another says something stupid, but that's fine, they're totally inoffensive most of the time. I certainly wouldn't want Horizon to have a serious professional racing atmosphere or a cinematic story, like what some people were suggesting, it's fine the way it is.

The game runs well on my i5-6500/GTX 1060 rig, but I got a blue screen crash in spring in the beginning of the demo, left a fairly bad taste in my mouth. Not sure if I even want to try again if I get those kinds of crashes.

Is there a recommended steering linearity setting or something I should be using with a controller? It feels kind of floaty to me, I don't know how else to describe it. I tried on PC and Xbox, same issue on both. I didn't have this issue with FH2 or FH3. I changed the deadzones and all that in the advanced control settings like usual too so that's not the issue. I'm on "normal" streering btw, that's what I used for the previous games too.

Finally able to complete the demo without crashes. I did 2 things. Can't tell for sure which one helped:

  1. Disabled unused audio devices and disabled audio enhancements (loudness leveling).
  2. Uninstalled from HDD & reinstalled on SSD.

#2 is my bet. When I first installed the game Windows Store wouldn't even let me pin its icon anywhere. It may be that the Win Store didn't properly grant me a license, which would also lend itself to my DRM theory and the game's behavior.

I'll probably play through the demo again some time with audio enhancements on and that'll leave the suggestion to reinstall (potentially on a SSD)

I think u did not get what the festival feeling in horizon is

Do you?

I've bought every FH game and loved em for the most part, but I find some of that grating. I'm fine with the Ferris wheels and ambience, but the character segments and especially the intro voiceovers are asinine. It's tolerable, sure. I don't think you can say the sales prove that people like that aspect of the game.

I'd be 100% for complete removal of the dialog aspects of the game. Voice overs during races are fine, but zero dimensional characters standing around chatting is not what I've ever come to any racing game for.

That was my guess, too. Especially with the way they use the jump-cut transitions (which are normally a pain for streaming), I'd bet the timing for some of these is deliberate, more than arbitrary. I totally get that feeling of impatience when a game is making you sit there after you've seen/done a part before though, even more so if you're going through it for testing/adjustments.

Oh yeah, I definitely don't blame people for wanting to skip the cut scenes and being frustrated because they can't be skipped.

Played a couple of hours last night and loved it. I just started the demo again now to continue where I left off and..... no progress saved? Is this normal?

This is a PC game. Switch controller has native drivers on PC. So they literally have to exclude it through software. Don't be fucking dense

Just not true. Forza has never purposely excluded any controller.
It's definitely not a test case for them obviously. I use my DS4 fine in previous games with the ds4win wrapper.

Have you tested it with other UWP games from the Windows store?

All my other games are on steam. But I have a ds4 also. So I guess I'll just use ds4win also.

So uh, did anyone else expect this to be MUCH better looking than it is on PC?

Like, anisotropic filtering is broken on some surfaces (pretty much anything off-road looks like utter shit on my rig), and normal grass disappears in a very small radius around my car (like 10 meters maybe)? Also, LOD changes on trees are super noticeable.

I really don't remember Forza Horizon 3 looking this bad. And this is all on Ultra (manually maxed, since the Ultra preset doesn't actually max everything), btw.

Performance is rock solid 60 but something has to be going on with the graphics.

i7 6700HQ and GTX1070 in case anyone's wondering.

It's probably being limited by the OG Xbox one. They can't go too crazy with it.

Maybe you haven't, but Horizon games are well known for appealing even to people who are normally not into racing games at all. My girlfriend is one of them, and she also tried playing Forza Motorsport, but she finds it pretty boring in comparison.

Horizon obviously works for a lot of people the way it is now, and as such it needs no fixing. What you're finding grating may very well attract some people, and those who are there for the racing can, like you said, tolerate it. On the other hand, I don't see what new significant segment of the audience could suddenly become attracted to the franchise if those things were to be changed.

Forza Horizon 3 was available on the OG XO and it looked better than this on my PC. Hell, I remember FH2 looking better on the OG XO than this does on my PC right now. Like, there's no fucking way this is normal for everything completely maxed out:

Setting the Ultra or High presets and enabling Dynamic Optimization looks extremely similar to how bad this looks, and ditto for manually setting stuff to High just in case Ultra is broken.

Well Forza vanilla is really boring now. I think it's the gameplay that's great & draws people in. Again, I don't think that's any evidence at all that the theme stuff isn't broken. I want to know if your gf specifically comes to FH for that character stuff, I want to know if anyone does.

Remember its a demo and a older build. :)
