Hmm. I don't know about that. Golden Sun would be shoulder-to-shoulder with Nintendo's biggest in the mobile space. Seems weird to me they would make a mobile Golden Sun before a mobile Kirby, Yoshi, Donkey Kong or Zelda game.

It was months ago so I'm sure I can't find it but there was a rumor (possibly WSJ?) that Nintendo was looking into several of their RPG properties to put onto mobile, and they honestly don't have all that many RPG properties to begin with. So people were wondering what RPGs those could be. A lot of people guessed Xenoblade as one.

RPGs also lend themselves better to mobile monetization schemes so I could see Golden Sun being a much better fit than something like Kirby or Yoshi.

January 2013 Direct was also 36 minutes long..

Did it have that volume of announcements? Or just a smaller number of bigger announcements (which is how I remember it)?

I can I see a scheme in Direct threads:

Phase 1. A Direct may be coming, some are hyped, some are dismissive
Phase 2. The hype takes over, clocks are resetted every hour for a few days. Mods join the fun.
Phase 3. The Direct is announced, hype explodes, some tries useless semantic analysis of the announcement text to predict shit.
Phase 4. Hints and rumors around some game(s), hype explodes. Some argues that hinted game is niche.
Phase 5. Direct is a few hours away. Users starts to reply to every single prediction with "you should lower your expectations" no matter the content of the post.
Phase 6. A good chunk of ERA is already disappointed in the Direct that will air in 2 hours, consoles are getting sold.
Phase 7. The Direct is live and criebabies can't phisically stand a 30 second reminder of any already announced game because "STOP WASTING TIMEEEEEE".
Phase 8. The Direct is over, God is dead.

Repeat every single time.

I will say that if they do bring back Golden Sun it will definitely be a remake of the first game. I never thought of that before but holy shit it makes the most sense.

i agree. it'll be interesting to see how or if nintendo is planning to continue their partnership with some of these studios (grezzo, alphadream, etc). will these smaller teams be able to expand and evolve to work on HD games for switch coming from smaller handheld game development, or will they be working on mobile games now, for nintendo or on their own.

IIRC Alphadream has recently started hiring people with Switch dev experience and Grezzo is looking for people with UE4 experiences.

Man, as someone who was a relatively big Golden Sun fan, I'm not really sure what they do with it from here. Continuing the last game seems weird since it's been 8 years. The last one was a bit of a flop, but it also ended in a distinct cliffhanger. People are talking about a remake but... what even is that?

I have a feeling that if the trademark means *anything* it just means they're putting it in Smash.

Golden Sun 1+2 remade into one game on the same engine as Mario Tennis (and a new translation) would be nice

Would at least fix GS1 being the driest-ass chicken I ever did taste

Are people convinced of announcements of new games? I assume it's just going to be about Smash, Mario Party, Pokemon, Online, maybe an update on Yoshi et al. and some upcoming 3DS game updates.

It would be boring if everybody anticipated it as realistically as possible.
Where's the fun in life if you don't get a little excited and hope for cool things?

I see why people are trying to tamper expectations but you can get hyped and be an adult about it when you don't get what you wanted.

I think that many will be amazingly dissapointed with this one. They will talk a lot about switch online. And it won`t be pretty. I`m pretty confident on this one.

Ps.: No insider. Just someone who can link the dots and who is following nintendo since 1992.

I and others will be laughing at your dot linking then, even with your 26 years of experience. Someone with a few years "experience" will know better.

A 35 minutes direct would have around 25 to 30 games so I really don't see why it'd be too short for those less than 10 games you listed.

Well generally when they do those quickfire announcements they're either for smaller games or ports that have existed before. I think expecting a new Golden Sun, a Metroid Prime Trilogy HD remaster, and a new Animal Crossing to take up such short amounts of time is fairly unrealistic. Especially Animal Crossing, unless it's just going to be a short tease like the Smash tease in the March Direct. It just seems unlikely that they'd reveal so many big names in a September Direct when there's a lot to talk about in terms of already known games, and some of these can probably be saved for later.

At least Nintendo's approach to mobile means we probably will see a new entry on Switch.
They don't just use mobile as a cheap cash-in for dead IPs.

True, that's a good point.

I podcast I just watched a dude in it said he got inside information that

Metroid Prime Trilogy HD will be announced in this Direct.

Yeah I saw you said that, and I think that's definitely possible. But expecting Golden Sun on top of that is just getting to be too much.

Plus we're expecting NSMBU Deluxe, Yoshi details, Fire Emblem details, maybe Bayonetta 3... I mean we can't have everything in this one Direct.

Just a reminder to not overhype ourselves, our boy Nibel posted this on the old thread.

Y'all expect Golden Sun characters?

In 2018?

Yup, there's sub-zero enthusiasm at Camelot for Golden Sun currently and the poor sales of the last entry make it highly unlikely we'll see anything outside of Smash cameos. I think the only argument in its favor is the fact that Camelot's other projects are also seeing shrinking sales.

I still remember the level of hate and abuse thrown around in the March Direct thread when the Splatoon 2 expansion was shown and people thought it was the last thing. It was insane, I even saw some comments saying to Nogami to go die. Shit was surreal.

Man, I am hoping for at least a new Salmon Run map in Splatoon 2. I freaking love that mode, and it was where I spent the bulk of my Splatoon time. I've dropped off for a while now, but new changes and additions would make me rebound for sure.

I rather they not remake Golden Sun or even make a sequel in terms of story progression.

They should make a spiritual successor that takes place in the same world with a few easter eggs for long time fans.

Hmm, let's see how many RPGs Nintendo have:
Fire Emblem
Pokémon
Xenoblade
Mother
Golden Sun
Last Story
Pandora's Tower
Fossil Fighters
Paper Mario
Mario & Luigi
Magical Vacation

At least from what I can find.

I hope so.

As in I hope we get big enough reveals that a new Smash character is just the cherry on top, not the main event lol.

Also I read "Mario Soccer Slammers" quickly and got way more excited :(

I hope so as well!

I imagine anger levels on Resetera would cross a breaking point if there wasn't something major from Nintendo revealed outside of a Smash reveal. Might look something like this

Some people should be ashamed. Funny, especially since the Octo Expansion was amazing.

I guess it's the runtime which lets people fantasize :D
Of course I'm not against some surprises.

But mostly, they will talk about what you talked about in this Direct. I think this Super Mario Bros U. port is real since it is a topic since E3. Maybe a few ports of third party publishers. I do hope Smash will not be a big topic in this Direct. If they waste 15 minutes to present new moves for the characters, well, that would be hilarious.

I don't expect a new game but more of a port/remake. Similar to the treatment Mario And Luigi Superstar Saga got on 3DS.
(Yes I'd be okay with a 3DS game.)
But do you have any sources on there being "sub-zero enthusiasm at Camelot for Golden Sun"?
Keep in mind they probably don't want to get any fans excited over something that may not happen.

So a new golden sun trademark?! Damn I am excited for whatever it is. A sequel, a remake, a remaster, a port. Don't care, I want it!

I actually liked Dark Dawn and I'm still not exactly sure if I want Camelot to continue the series. I think there's a lot of good things about the series, like it's emphasis on zelda-like puzzles using psyenergy, the class swapping with djinn (although it's a bit underbaked), and the flashy summons. But I think if this does actually return in anything other than a remake, it's going to need to be drastically revamped.

This so much. The amount of people trying to downplay the slightest hope and hype for this Direct is ridiculous. Like I get it, low expectations are good but it doesn't mean the only thing you can expect is them talking about a freaking update for their Animal Crossing mobile title for 10 minutes. Especially when we consider they don't talk about mobile games in their main Directs like ever.
