The reveal will be a classic showdown. Hard cuts at increasing intensity between two silhouettes. The cat and the dog. Incineroar and Isabelle. They charge at each other, like DK and K Rool.

The updates are numbered in Japan, and they skipped a bunch this week so we have empty slots. I could be wrong but I believe the highest number is the Pikmin song, and they've gone back and forth between this week and last week otherwise.

Thus, Slot Theory™ dictates that they skipped all the way ahead a week to give us next week's song, because this week's song could not be added until after the newcomer was revealed, in accordance with the Music Rule.

RIP Skull Kid, Bandana Dee, and Geno. I will miss two of you.

Or they figured people would do literally what we are doing and not want to reveal the franchise of the newcomer. Or it's a new franchise.

The Red and Blue gym theme starts during the silhouette portion, but then transitions into a high octane trumpet-blaring rendition of the GameCube Animal Crossing title theme as they charge.

to be more specific this week they have:
grabbed thursday's update (Bowser) for monday's
left tuesday's update (toon link) alone
grabbed next week's music (pikmin main theme) for this week. the other update this day was left alone (Summit)
grabbed next thursday's update (Ryu & his memory) for today

It could be a new franchise for sure, but every music update confirms the Music Rule even more, and one that shows they went out of their way to skip a song even more so.

You know what?

Even with the music theory being bullshit, I think I agree with the slot theory logic.

We're not getting a newcomer from a series with music already accounted for...

In this direct.

Idk I'd argue it makes more sense they skipped it because the music rule doesn't exist. For example if they put on a second Zelda track everyone would know it's a Zelda character. So they didn't play their double music one franchise hand early.

Almost everyone is banking on the new Pokémon rep to be revealed tomorrow, but I just realized, why? Is there any evidence or theory pointing to it being shown tomorrow and not later that I missed?

Incineroar has been hinted at by a credible leaker and many assume he would be shown in non-Smash direct since Pokemon is one of Nintendo's more popular series.

Why is this a thing.
Also wow so much of this article is asspatty. Which is fine but definitely seems like something Wikipedia would normally nuke from orbit.

None of them (unfortunately) stand a chance over Rex. Period. Elma is really the only shot there is for a female Xenoblade character. And we really, really need a lot more cool girls in Smash. And Elma's cool. Ergo.
Yeah I don't disagree. I like Rex alot but I'd be bummed if he was the only new Xenoblade rep overall.

My ideal scenario would be

Base: Elma

DLC: Rex, Pyra (Echo of Rex), and Nia and Dromarch.

Then again it's unlikely they'd make 3 original Xenoblade characters in a short time. But if they could somehow implement Nia even as an Echo I'd be ecstatic. I just want best girl to be in

1: General appeal, good for a Direct
2: Direct was intended to reveal a slate of Let's Go news, which has since been revealed by TPC

But that's it.

Xenoblade X is easily the best of the Xenoblade games so it just makes sense to have a rep for the game in and it only makes sense for that rep to be Elma.

I think people over exaggerate it's negative reception. It got a lot of extreme blowback from specific fans for not being exactly like the first game (while it does have its own problems) but the game is well liked by many, reviewed well, sold pretty well for a Wii U game and Monilith Soft likes the game and Elma. So I don't believe Xenoblade X content and Elma would be passed over because Sakurai thinks the game is bad or a flop or that no one likes it.

Yeah but Sakurai's said Xenoblade 2 was one of his favorite games of last year so I fully expect a DLC character from that game over Xenobalde X. Elma would be hype though.

I'm not sure XB2 was big enough to warrant 3 characters, but, I'd be fine with that. Nia's pretty neat.
Monster Rancher, a series that decided THAT thing would be thier Pikachu. Looks like a goddamn 4chan meme.
Wrong.
Mocchi_02.jpg

This is their Pikachu.
Also, don't diss Monster Rancher in my presence, son. Monster Rancher 2 was THE best monster-taming JRPG of the era with Jade Cocoon in a close second, Pokemon RBY and Digimon World eat their heart out.
