So Exeggutor (presumably) before the initial Direct and now Ryu....Incineroar plus Ken (Echo) reveal?

Would FE Awakening exist if Smash was a new IP?

Would FE have ever come out in the West if Marth and Roy hadn't been in Melee? We don't know.

Wars also finally got a Western release during the GBA gen just like FE, in spite of no Smash appearance. And the FE game that first got released in the West wasn't even the one advertised by Melee.

Blade Knight is the lamest of all Kirby characters

for one thing, his name is BLADE KNIGHT

I don't think anyone's ready for any more of my hot takes, so I'm going to hold my tongue here.

... But also, Dark Meta Knight exists.

I just texted Hannibal that you used this to dis Torterra and he was pissed

You & I both know Hannibal doesn't get pissed over stuff like that.

Why you gotta be like that?

Objectively correct?

The left is how the calendar was probably supposed to go. The right in red is what it currently is. The Purple is my own speculation.

So the blog has been sticking to 3 character trailers a week. The fact they did not use 143 and, instead, grabbed next Thursday's character trailer tells me it wasn't a character trailer at all and that this week already had 3. That implies at least 137 was a character trailer (or 136 was and 137 was a memory or w/e).

So if 143 was some rando item or assist trophy, it can't easily take the place of Ryu next week. 137 gets bumped to Monday, which will bump up 144. I think 144 is another character trailer and will go in Ryu's place while 145 (maybe a character trailer, maybe an item, who knows) can stay ala toon link.

Ultimately 143 doesn't really have a place to go. It could feasibly bump off one of its subsequent rando updates, but that just kicks the problem of a mising update to another week. They coul double 143 up with another update, which would be weird but get everything back on track. It's also possible it's just never put up on the site and just eat the missing update and ignore it moving forward; it's not like the site will necessarily be able to cover everything before release anyway.

e: lol never mind they could have just used 143 since tomorrow gets a character anyway. oh well fun with excel

If every Pokemon was cut and 10 new ones (the amount probably in ultimate) had to be added to replace them

Who would you choose?

I'd go
1.)riachu
2.) Gengar
3.) Blastiose
4.) Feraligatr
5.)Typhlosion
6.) Blaziken
7.) Serperior
8.) Chandelure
9.) Sylveon
10.) decidueye

If Smash was making its debut this year, who'd ya'll have for your original 12 and secret 4?

01. Mario
02. Donkey Kong
03. Link
04. Samus
05. Kirby
06. Pikachu
07. Villager
08. Inkling

09. Yoshi or Wario
10. Fox
11. Olimar
12. Wii Fit Trainer

Bonus: Mii Fighters

Back then, Nintendo didn't have as many franchises so putting more than one rep for certain Uber franchises wasn't too out of expectations, but Smash, being a crossover game would benefit a lot more if every character represented a distinct, important and relevant Nintendo IP. Also because Smash never existed in the past, Kid Icarus, Earthbound, F-Zero, Fire Emblem and Xenoblade are all irrelevant.

Not to my knowledge. Nobody knew about it before Smash in my friend group, & I think Starmen.net came later.

Starmen.net was formed in 1997. Smash came out in 1999.

I think I was aware that Earthbound was a cult hit by the time Smash came out because I didn't believe the friend who told me that Ness was in, so I might have visited Starmen.net back then.

Fanart promotion I guess?

Miyamoto would probably actually be the reason. He's lowkey the only reason why Star Fox got given so many shots.

Probably. 64 was one of the best games out there too, even if I hate having to call it star fox when everyone knows it was called Lylat Wars ;)

Maybe, but they are going to get Incineroar in the game!

are they popular with that fan art? how do you know this? is incineroar confirmed?

I'm surprised we haven't seen more disturbing ships coming out from the art community. Smash 4 had a ton lol
It's been fairly vanilla, yeah. Mostly variations on the love triangle between King K. Rool, Ridley, and Bowser.

Haven't seen much shipping art for the Belmonts. Maybe people are acknowledging that medieval people, no matter how hot, smelt really bad and had inadequate hygiene.

Surprised that they chose to highlight the SFC port of SFII and not the actual arcade cabinet, let alone SFI. What have they done with the other third parties? Cloud is gonna be a bit iffy I assume.

I want to know how Simon keeps his skin clear, they must have had a nice home remedy for that

Bomberman showed the NES' manual
Mega Man showed, uh, Mega Man.
Sonic got ignored (though did double up with Knuckles that day)
Snake got ignored

That's a shame there isn't more, and yeah, Simon's hygiene is so bad that he reverted back into a barbarian

I'm gonna assume you mean original 8? Smash 64 had 12 total, including the hidden 4.
1. Mario
2. Link
3. Pikachu
4. Kirby
5. Donkey Kong
6. Villager
7. Inkling
8. Marth

Hidden:
9. Samus
10. Olimar
11. Bowser
12. Zelda

Oops. Yeah. Meant original 8.

I personally couldn't see Captain Falcon or Ness (let alone Jiggs) making the game's roster if it was coming out this year. Fox would be close because he's not as relevant as some as the other Nintendo heavy hitters these days.

1. Mario
2. Link
3. Pikachu
4. Donkey Kong
5. Kirby
6. Yoshi
7. Inkling
8. Mii Fighter

Hidden:
9. Villager
10. Fire Emblem rep (Marth?)
11. Luigi
12. Samus
