That's what choice is about. I use my pencil occasionally on my iPad, but wouldn't see the point on a smaller screen. Watch OS is miles beyond Wear OS. I like my cheap Android phones, but at the end of the day I always reach for the iPhone.
Ironically, the OP is very big on "choice," unless your choice is Apple, in which case you're a rich idiot.

What else would you call these $1000+ devices... Is that normal to you lol
*shrug* Just feels weird that the only option for people switching has the "Bring on the premium prices!!" condition attached to it.

Its like me creating a poll that asks "Are you switching to the new Samsung phone from your iPhone?" and the two options are "No, I'm good" and "Yes, I need BIXBY now and love waiting months for software updates!"

I have an iPhone 7+ and I'm still not compelled to upgrade right now. Especially with the prices they've decided on. I'll stick it out with my current phone for another year.

That is a valid complaint and the biggest reason I won't be going for a Samsung device next time around. I love the extra button and hate that I have to have app to use it for not bixby. And way too slow on even security patches. Don't see the issue here.

I've never used a wear or watch OS device but also never felt compelled to whereas I do see apple watches pretty often so I'll believe you. I really liked my pebble but Fitbit took them away from us :(

You're right, they are valid complaints. That's why it would silly to have them be a condition in a poll.

Just like your poll is silly for having a mandatory condition of "bring on the premium prices!" I'm switching from Android to iPhone for a lot of reasons, but I'm not excited about the high prices. But in your poll, my only option is to be excited about them. See the issue now? See how the bias comes through?

The iPhone X was Apple's beset selling phone for FY, each quarter since its release. I'm not sure what OP means by "normal," but it's clear that a phone at this price point sells and sells very well.

I'm gonna run my iPhone 6 into the ground, and then switch to something else. Phones aren't worth a thousand dollars to me.

Will it be anywhere near as fast, stable or secure as the iPhones internal storage?
I'm not using it to store anything that matters for those purposes, use the onboard memory if that matters. But putting music and movies pictures etc on it is the purpose. As for speed I'm sure it's just fine, never had an issue with sd card load times on a phone before.

And for security, my SD card is locked to my phone. Can't open it in another reader without formatting it.

That was my third point - how many people do you think actually need to store that much media and need it on their phone at all times?

I gave myself 3 options.. or 2 now.

-Buy the Max 256GB and do monthly payments on it with no upgrade/coverage. I don't upgrade phones yearly and never have so far.
-Buy the Xr 64GB or do monthly payments on it. But i'm really turned off how the screen resolution is only 828p with no HDR.
-Stick to my 4 year old 5s.

I've been using my 5s since 2014 and it's my first phone too. Still works great. I will love a HUGE upgrade and I see the Xs Max justifying that upgrade but i'm not too sure if it's worth when next year, obviously they will announce something better. Plus the jump from 640p screen resolution (my 5s) to over 1200P (Max) seems very nice too.

I think the new phone is a great phone and a great product but the price is out of control.

I will stick to iOS and I wasnt thinking of upgrading anyway but once it's time to upgrade I don't think I can justify the price for the high end iPhone. It's just too much.

The Xr is the most I would go. But even that should be a bit cheaper.

It's nice to not have to juggle apps or pictures around onto the cloud and what not just have the memory there and not run out. And when I upgrade phones I can carry it over and still have that memory option on a new phone. Admittedly less Androids are supporting sd cards but enough still do it's not an issue. And if I need more? Easy upgrade.

I guess it just comes down to tone then. To me the phrase "Bring on the premium prices!!!" reads as "I'm excited for the premium prices." and excited for=/=okay with.

But whatever, it doesn't really matter, haha. Just an off-putting poll, nbd.

I feel the note can do more though, what with the Samsung dex advances and the s pen. Even in the upper echelon it feels the Android device is doing more/better at a lower price point. I dont really see where the apple value becomes worth it unless you are just ensnared in their ecosystem which honestly feels more like a curse than a benefit.

They're priced higher, but I value a cohesive polished experience. It's evident within 10 minutes of using the latest Samsung and Apple devices for example which one is going to give you that. Clashing colors, duplicated apps, laggy UI - all Samsung staples. Stock and other Android skins are much better however.

I also value software support - completely ruling out a samsung phone. The three year old 6S is blazing on the newest iOS 12 which it's getting at launch.

It's all a question of what you want out of your phone.

I like how they're venturing out into more colorways again with the Xr, though I wish they did it with the Xs so people didn't have to get the "less special" version in order to get something in a different color. Color options should be the same across all devices; if I want a maroon phone, it should be there regardless of the model. Sure, there's skins, but still.

Some of the software features seem awesome, but I'm sticking with Android. I only liked Apple because of jailbreaks, and once Android stabilized around 5.0, there was no reason for me to stick around since it's as capable as a jailbroken phone out of the box.

And I hate notches. I'm sticking with Samsung for the foreseeable future due to Samsung Pay and no notches, but I'm waiting to see what they ape from Xs and iOS 12 to improve their lineup next year.

More of a joke if anything, wanted to do one for Windows phone users who are finally upgrading but hit the Max options :p

Eh not really the case anymore, samsungs flavor is really good since the s8. Slowness of updates and the bixby button are my only real complaints. Not sure when you last used one but things like their s panel tools are really useful features that Im hoping Android adopts for all phones. Like how Samsung did the multi window stuff first and Android adopted it later.

And Samsung pay is by farrrr the best mobile payments system. Sucks they have a patent on it.

Is there a deductible with apple care? I never buy it, but my 7 plus that I never drop, never got wet, and always kept in a case randomly broke and left me out to dry. Ill get apple care with my new max s for sure.

I'm an ios user and I'm staying in Apple's ecosystem but after the conference I'm conviced that their flagships models are just not for me anymore. I'm not going to spend 1.3k € on a phone. And at 460 € for the new watch I'm not upgrading my series 2 anytime soon either. At 850 € even the "budget" iphone XR is ridiculously premium priced.

They are trying to price me out of their userbase in pretty much every product category .. and yeah fine good luck with that. I'm sure it'll be very successful for Apple. I'm just not going to buy any more of their stuff.

Watched the stream to see if there was anything that could pull me away from my s8+. Camera improvements are nice and that Steve Nash app was cool. But those two aren't worth the price of admission lol.

I'm curious if Samsung and Google will kill them on the camera front again this year. It's been what 3 years now that apples been in third place?

Generally speaking, they're all horrible and gouge the consumer. I'm not defending them or saying they're good in the least. I'm just not interested in spending a ton of money up front for a phone when I can get one 'free' through my contract.

I pay $50 a month for one fucking gig. It's not good.

You should consider prepaid plans. Many friends buy phones outright (including used phones where deals are incredible) and pay under $40 for 2-4gb a month.

Those contracts are simply a phone payment plan, though I admit there are occasional good deals (per our Canadian deals thread :)

Many people will simply finance the phone over monthly payments if they don't get access to carrier contract plans.

I like iOS, but their phones just cost too much nowadays. I wish they would introduce a new SE model. For now, I'm sticking to Android. Although I'm going to have to upgrade my Nexus 5X soon. Thing is starting randomly reset itself semi frequently now...

Why would any S year make anyone change formats?
It's a half step year, now if it was the 11 this year then I would get the idea of the thread.
It's the same stuff as last year, with a few changes.

Bummed that the 4" phone seems to be dead to Apple. I love my iPhone SE and I'd prefer not to own anything larger. I bought it in March 2017 when the new storage capacities were rolled out so it's only about 18 months old.

So the phone I would want to buy this cycle, if I were up for an upgrade, is not only big, but stupid big, and I ain't a fan of that.
You and me both, man. I would even consider jumping to Android if they released a ~4" phone but the closest I can find is the XZ1 Compact and it's a year old already. The XZ2 Compact is bigger still.

Just give me an SE with new guts and new camera and I'd be happy. Even don't mind the screen resolution/quality.

$40 is better than $50, but the thing is that it comes with a big phone purchase beforehand. For an extra $10, I'd rather just have the phone thrown in, and that way I can upgrade to another 'free' one. More data would be nice, though, so when I do upgrade I'm going to ask about it.

Luckily, I don't use my phone all that much and have never gone over my data. Before this, I had 500mb and now just the 1gb. I've used 985mb once. But peace of mind would be nice, especially since I'm not working from home as much and have an Internet addiction.

Thanks for the thoughtful reply, though

Well, they did hype up so many "revolutionary features" you'd think a few people may switch after seeing them :p

It used to be that Apple products commanded a certain premium, because they were just that much better than the competition in specs, build quality, features, etc. Now it feels more like Apple is in the business of, to put it nicely, overcharging gullible people.

It's been this way for a few years and it's sad.

With most other companies, when you buy a product you feel like you are getting the best value from the company that they could give you.

With Apple, you feel like they are squeezing every penny they can out of you.

Sure they can put a 1080p screen in their budget phone and keep the price the same, but they won't because they know they can get away with it.

The example I like to use is when I bought my Amazon Firestick. The stick didn't fit in my HDMI port because it was too thick. I look in the box and lo and behold there is an extra adapter there for this scenario, that maybe 50% of the people need. That is something that current Apple would never do.

I took a gamble and bought an iPhone X last week after having a 6S for several years. I don't feel bad at all because the new phones announced today don't have anything notable that I can't live without.

If it were easy to get my hands on a dual SIM version from China that worked on American cell bands that might be a different story...

Man, I don't understand all the freaking out about prices with the introduction of pricing plans. In the US at least, I pay monthly along with my phone bill through my carrier; don't even pay off the full thing, and then trade it back in and upgrade to the next one.

Sure you could argue that it's still a lot to pay If I just keep my current one till it's paid off, but by that point it's two years old and I'm ready to upgrade anyway. I realize that I'm in a privledged position, but people pointing to these crazy price tags as if people have to pay off the whole thing upfront doesn't account for every possibility.

At the end of the day, they're just phones and there are plenty of reasons to look elsewhere other than Apple if you hate how they do things.

You realize you're saying $1500 for a phone up front doesn't equal $1500 for a phone over 24 payments?

You're still paying $1500. I think people understand how payment plans work.

No, it makes me feel less confident about my wallet.
I mean:
iPhone XS:
64GB $1629
256GB $1879
512GB $2199
iPhone XS Max:
64GB $1799
256GB $2049
512GB $2369
iPhone XR:
64GB $1229
128GB $1299
256GB $1479

Come the fuck on, $2000 for a phone that doesn't have usb-c or 3.5mm jack?

yes, because that's how a phone's price is decided.
