I'm confused by the display. They claimed 120 refresh rate like the iPad Pro's Pro Motion...is that indeed true? If so, that's already a selling point for me.

Pumped to get the XS Max this year, of course it's 64/256/512 so I have to get the 256 because I have a 128GB phone already. Sort of annoying.

New portrait looks great, excited to get better lowlight oerformance on my photos and videos as well compaired my 7+

$250 credit for my 38mm Series 3 stainless steel from Apple. Guess I'll take it since I probably won't get much more from eBay and it's less hassle.

I thought that's what it was. What could the issue be? Aren't wireless chargers old hat now?

It was supposed to be a charger where you could put any three compatible devices down anywhere on the mat and it would work. No exact positioning necessary. So very unlike current wireless chargers.

How did you try it? Apple Store app? Does it do a hard pull on your credit?

Only if you do a new loan from scratch. If you do an upgrade it only does a soft check. If that poster paid off their 7 then reapplied, then yes it did a hard check.

I'm at work I don't wear my Apple Watch. It's at home
My wife knows my password for x reason and that watch has cellular. Can I block access to phone call or sms reception if I don't wear it but she tries to open / wear it ?

Phone calls and texts go to both the phone and the watch if the watch is being worn. Just the phone if the watch isn't being worn. If for whatever reason your wife puts on your watch and unlocks it with the passcode, she would be getting your calls and texts, yes.

Got Preapproved for a Space Gray 256GB XS Max. Do I definitely want to be up and awake at preorder time (I'm in CST so it's be 2:01AM for me) or I can wait till the morning? My first time buying from Apple directly.

XR vs XS

- Lower resolution
- 3D Touch
- Telephoto camera
- Screen quality (LCD)
- IP67
+ Bigger screen
+ No glass back (better durability)
+ Better battery life
+ 25% cheaper
Same A12 processor, FaceID setup, full body display design, main camera, wireless charging, true-tone display.

This is a winner in most people's books.

If you want it close to launch you better wake up. If you're okay getting it weeks later you can sleep

So if I have a 42mm Watch now and switch to a 40mm, will the screen wind up being the same or bigger?

I wanted to order online but I feel like I need to see this in person now

Display areas according to the Apple site:
series 4 44mm case: 977mm²
series 3 42mm case: 740mm²
series 4 40mm case: 759mm²
series 3 38mm case: 564mm²

What's all this getting preaproved to do a purchase you guys are talking about?
The Apple trade in program. You can fill out an application for it now to streamline your purchase when preorders go live.

I thought all the phones announced this year had a glass back?

Oh, I'll probably get the XR for sure then. People get so caught up in tech specs. Can anyone honestly tell the difference between 320ppi and 400+ppi at the typical distance they hold their phone at?
I can definitely see 1080 as worst than 1440. 720 (or anything close to that) is really noticeable, UI will need some adjustments, letters will be bigger...

I'm sure it will have great specs though (nits, color accuracy etc)

I'm seeing used iPhone x for $700 on swappa, so... Unless the a12 chipset is a gamechanger, don't see why most ppl don't just get a used x over xr? Or even the xs really..

Yeh I was looking this myself, I really want the dual cameras (+ 3D Touch) of the Xs, but that superior battery life for the Xr is calling me....

Xs
Talk time (wireless):Up to 20 hours
Internet use:Up to 12 hours
Video playback (wireless):Up to 14 hours
Audio playback (wireless):Up to 60 hours

Xr
Talk time (wireless):Up to 25 hours
Internet use:Up to 15 hours
Video playback (wireless):Up to 16 hours
Audio playback (wireless):Up to 65 hours

When you think about how much of your mobile usage is a mix of internet + video playback, those extra hours can really make a difference across system use. Never mind the extra cash you'd be saving vs the Xs. (I'm also probably one of the few peeps who'd prefer the matte aluminium finish to the glossy stainless steel one).

I'm gonna need to see what the Xr's camera shots (especially low-light) look like before I decide

Wait, xs max doesn't offer any new software features?

Just offer pip or multi window from the iPad already...

Was the biggest game changer when I switched to android, surprised Apple hasn't adopted that yet on their phones that have a screen that is comparable to size with a note 9

On what planet is $749 a direct currency conversion of £749?

The cheapest new iPhone is still incredibly expensive...

I guess I shall be sticking with my SE for a very long time then.

I really like the colours though!

Currently have a 6S, and if I was gonna upgrade which I probably won't, I'd get a red XR. I don't think the screen resolution would bother me because the new one and mine have the same ppi. The major major benefit of the XR though is that killer battery life.

$175 through Apple for my GPS Series 3, making the Series 4 $225. Can I do better elsewhere? Really like the Series 4.

I can definitely see 1080 as worst than 1440. 720 (or anything close to that) is really noticeable, UI will need some adjustments, letters will be bigger...

All iOS devices run the UI internally at integer divisors of their Retina modes. 328ppi devices run at Retina 2x which means the 1792 x 828 resolution of an iPhone XR runs a UI of 896 x 414 points. The iPhone XS Max runs in Retina 3x which means its 2688 by 1242 resolution also runs a UI of 896 x 414. The only difference between XS and XR is that XS will use 3x assets while XR will use 2x assets. Same layouts.

Even the Plus handsets which run 1080p panels run internally at 2208 x 1242 for a 736 x 414 point UI. The whole thing is downsampled into a 1080p framebuffer right after rendering. Although there is an exception where you're playing 1080p video and the OS will write the 1080p frame to the framebuffer without going through the intermediate 1242p.

I think I'm just gonna pay Apple to replace the battery in my iPhone 7. I saw nothing that was worth 1100 dollars.

I just did this and they broke my phone.

I shit you not.

Not only that. They refused to give me a new iPhone 7+. I got a refurb and it killed my resale value.

Lol.

The battery life on the refurb sucks too.

Of the top of my head: colors, larger screen, faster, longer battery life, new vs. used from some random person on Swappa, will be supported longer, have the option of getting Applecare+.

Those things seem to be well worth the $50 price difference to me.

Why would they not compensate you for breaking your phone? And the refurb would have a new battery, so it having bad battery life makes no sense.
