I vote we will get a 1-2 minute quick presentation on animal Crossing Switch with a vague 2019 title

Can we stop with "big games only get announced at E3" nonsense? For the past couple years now both Nintendo and Sony have announced their biggest first party games outside of E3. Third parties still go big at E3, but the biggest announcements at E3 from Nintendo since the Switch launch have been a Metroid Prime logo (arguably not even a "big" announcement) and ol boy at his desk promising us a core Pokémon game is coming. I'm not expecting anything Zelda tomorrow either but the next one isn't getting announced at E3, where they have to share the spotlight with everyone.

Remember how weird it was in 2013 where apparently E3 happened in April?

I'm not saying it can't happen, but historically Zelda games, particularly console 3D Zelda games, are used as E3 showstoppers, and Zelda is probably more tied to E3 as the western crowd pleaser than any other Nintendo IP. The popular theory is that the next Zelda game would be a BotW-esque follow up in the vein of Majora's Mask, which would certainly be held back for E3. Ports of older games or a 2D game could come out of the direct, but I'm VERY certain the next 3D Zelda game will be an E3 reveal.

I doubt Nintendo would let press get hands on with a new Smash character ahead of reveal anyways. Sakurai is super sensitive to leaks and it's not like playing one new character is something journalists need to go back home and write a feature on.

I think the game that could make the biggest splash surprise is NSMBU Deluxe. A lot of people don't want this, but if Nintendo adds online co-op, characters, modes, etc I could see it turning out positively. Sounds like Luigi U will be with it.

Animal Crossing trailer will be a short pan of an empty town, eventually centering on a house, the villager comes out, waves and then the title fades in, followed by a black screen with white text saying "2019"

This is my prediction. Based on how funny reactions would be if that's all they show (if anything!)

Why would they show Animal Crossing? It's not gonna release until at least the middle of next year. They would save that for the January direct. Animal Crossing isn't like Bayonetta or Metroid where it is going to generate a lot of hype so there's no need to reveal it so early.

Animal Crossing is the most casual Nintendo franchise. You don't announce games a year out aimed at casual gamers.

I mean, have you taken a look at this thread and the pre-announcement thread? There's crazy hype surrounding Animal Crossing and this is an enthusiasts forum
Also New Leaf was revealed way more than a year before release too.

Okay, I'm really wrong. Just checked. New Leaf was announced two years before it released.

Guess that means we'll see the new Animal Crossing in 2020.

I'm starting to think there'll be some sort of emphasis on online games given the launch of the service. Games that feel likely to fill this could be New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe, Animal Crossing, Xenoblade Chronicles X, as well as Smash Bros and Super Mario Party.

And, I'm going to make a bold guess for online games, Overwatch and Soulcalibur VI.

Animal Crossing is one of Nintendo's biggest franchises, my guy.

like I don't even like the games but them things sell. IIRC only Pokemon, Smash and Mario Kart outranks it.

I think NSMBU may not be that well received on here but will end up selling big numbers on switch and even help boost HW. I have to say I'm pretty excited for it actually.

Animal crossing has some casual appeal but there is plenty of hype around its release. I think you're underestimating the appeal of AC.

Also I could see it ending up releasing in the first half of the year.
