All, please be careful with spoilers. While this game can be difficult to exactly describe where you are in the story without giving things away, please try to take care when posting your progress or answering others' questions.

Here's an example of a bad spoiler.
OH MY GOD I JUST GOT
Darth Vader and he's my father? Wut
Here's a better one:
OH MY GOD BUNNIES WERE THE ENEMY ALL ALONG
This goes for other games as well. If someone asks a question, don't respond with "No that doesn't happen in DQXI, but in DQIV did you know that the bad guy is really your mother omg!?"
or even for things happening later in DQXI:
Don't respond with "No, but later in the game you get a mecha-spaceship that shoots rhinoceroses at enemies!"

This has been a great thread for the most part, please try and be considerate of your fellow players. Thanks.

...I don't know why the spacing is so weird in this post.

Holy shit I can believe you fight
a dragon

With how easy it is to swap party memebers around I'm kind of treating the game as a huge full party game and just swaping my buffers and debuffers around while my attackers go to town

Bet the minimum amount on all three rows on the slots until you get the metal slime bonus. Then triple your bets on all rows. Worked for me. Made well over 200k in less than an hour (but I also hit the jackpot).

Yeah I was getting the metal slime bonus stuff. I just wasn't winning shit.

Hmm. This might be total coincidence, but I sat behind the slots that had the same number as the slime quest slots that we're currently 'hot' (one of the women there can tell you that). Again, no idea if that has any bearing on success!

Thank you.

I managed to stay unspoiled for over a year but a handful of spoilers like this managed to ruin an early game twist for me.

Why not create a spoiler-free thread for those wanting to discuss in a more open way?
That's an option for people who have finished the game, but not really those who haven't. People are asking for things as they play, and may want answers without having to scroll through a million spoilers in a spoiler thread. If I want to know something about an event ten hours into the game, I don't wanna get spoiled by something that happens at sixty hours.

Thanks Hecht. Hopefully people get better about it, and also don't fall into giving spoilers as context...

Why not create a spoiler-free thread for those wanting to discuss in a more open way?

I'm confused by what you mean. A "spoiler-free" thread wouldn't have more open discussion; that'd be a "spoiler thread".

Did you mean to say "a thread where people can spoil freely"?

One of the main issues here is posters offering way more information in answers to questions asked by people who are still playing the game than they need to be giving.

Thankfully I just finished what I assume is the main story? I feel like I flew through it compared to others' times: 50:46

Does anybody ever think instant kill spells are a fun inclusion in jrpgs?
I'm playing on Draconian Mode and I ran into a cannibox yesterday. I almost lost an hour of progress because it did 3 desperate attacks in a row and wiped most of my party except Serena. If that wasn't bad enough Serena and guest character Rab decided to miss a total of 5 or 6 Zings in a row until I got fed up and used an Yggdrasil Leaf. Thankfully I was finally able to start getting people back up and healed since the cannibox decided to focus Rab.

am I missing any dialogue by not picking up party members before doing certain stuff? Like going back to Galloplis and for story cutscenes in part 2?

I don't store my gold in the Rainbow Bank since I rarely die (and also laziness) so I'd have lost around 10k gold. And the very few times that I have died I just reload a save out of pride. I'm usually pretty good about saving often, but I'd assumed this dungeon would have had a save near the end like some of the previous ones. My previous post was more a humorous story about my string of bad luck rather than complaining about the cannibox.

Question about a boss (Draconian mode):

What level are you supposed to be to kill this thing? My party are 29-30 and I'm getting completely destroyed. It's the desperate attacks that are the problem, they do about 175 damage which is enough to one shot Veronica and anyone else who isn't at full health. She always has at least three or four consecutive attacks, and I think one time even six!

Do any status effects work?

By far the single worst boss fight in any Dragon Quest game?

- 100% charm
- Fire damage attack that isn't reduced by Fire Damage Reduction skills and equipment?
- Charm that isn't curable with anti-Charm spells, or is RNG?
- Total RNG that Serena will be taken off-line before she can start to immunize people to charm?
- Hilariously wide RNG in terms of power from the boss. If she favors the slap, plant bite, and skill lock, you have any easy battle, but if her first turn is Crit + Fire Beam + Charm Serena, you may as well just soft-reset and reload. Oh, wait, there isn't a reset, so you need to wait until your entire party dies.

She exemplifies everything that is wrong with Stronger Enemies mode. The mode is definitely the way to play the game if the rest of it is far too easy, but the spikes are wildly exacerbated by some brutal RNG dependence on how the first two turns go down.

Huh? Most of them are perfectly fine. The only ones that I think are not great are the pep ones and the golden enemy ones. And there aren't that many of either one.
Yeah most of them have been fine, but boo to the pep ones (and that goddamn casino one). It's not that they're hard so much as you may have to respec to do it which is just irritating.

After I died to that canni I started storing my gold in the bank since zoom is a thing and most banks are close to the entrance xD

I guess my perspective on these is informed by Dragon Quest 9's quests, which are just so much worse than literally anything in DQ11. I was so refreshed that they were basically all somewhat reasonable. Even the pep ones aren't as bad as some of the worst ones in DQ9.

So, uh...

Do I get locked out of anything by going back in time? I did all the sidequests thus far.

Thanks a bunch Hecht.

When it's literally the only thing to evoke a sense of danger and the game gives you magic-blocking spells and instakill canceling ones, sure.

lol. They first bring this in DQ3 to increase the nervous sense, but later on people found it more fun than dread, as you noticed. There is a magic in DQ11 can detect what's inside the box, but I think most people never uses it... However back then, it was a very useful magic.

Yes you'll miss a lot ,and some are quite funny.
Actually if you bring Erik with xxx or without xxx(not sure if you get him back yet), his reaction will be different

Is there any chest piece that improves steal chance? I can't seem to find any.

No. you can only get chest armor which increases drop rate.

So, uh...

No real big things that affect trophy, achievement or collectibles.

Only two small errands that are not listed in side-quest list are missable.
You can send two homeless girl to metal school. One is at last bastion where you find Chalky at the beginning of the game, the other is a dragon girl in the valley to the east of metal school (behind the hawk's nest). Send them and go back to school they will give you reward.
These could not be done in post-game. They will automatically appear in school for different reasons.

And you will not able too see those optional mark event in post-game, of course.

The pep ones are not that bad just because you can store characters away while waiting for others to pep up

I think the little conversations where you check up on your party members have to be done now. Everything else should still be available afterward.

I'm still early on I guess I just picked up my 2nd character, and the game really doesn't grab me yet, it's feeling like a worse version of Blue Dragon right now. The battles are too easy, the environments although big and semi-details feel dead. Towns are kind of ok but still there are only the people giving quests that are worthwhile to talk to.

Maybe the game will grab me in the next hour?

Worse than Blue Dragon that takes the cake in this thread.

Question about how far i have left to go. My interest is slowly waning.

I think I'm pretty late but hard to say for sure.

I just got the forging hammer and I have the ore.
