I misread these numbers. Only the original hit 9 million.

There's virtually no chance that Odyssey doesn't easily surpass Galaxy's sales. It took Galaxy a few years to get to where Odyssey's sales are now, and Odyssey's tail sales are much better so far.
This includes sales of the game on other platforms besides NES, though.

You need to back up a little bit. I said Mario,
kart, Smash, Pokémon, AC all belong in one category because they hit 10+ million. 3D Zelda is there now.
I had misread 2D Zelda numbers. Splatoon isn't with those others until it hits 10+ million for me. I still put Splatoon below them until it gets there.
Oh no, not a collection! They'll all be sold separately of course.

I dunno man, Awakening alone sold over 2 million copies world wide which most JRPG makers would kill for. I think the problem is you're trying to compare a strategy RPG which is a niche genre, to stuff that appeals to a wider audience. But within the JRPG community Fire Emblem is pretty big, and it sells extremely well for what it is. I mean even comparing it to every game that hits the market these days it still sells better than 90% of games out there.
That's like trying to argue that because MHW sold 10 million units SFV isn't "big" because it hasn't even broken 3 million. Not every game needs to pass some mythical 10 million sale threshold to justify being a relevant.

Reaching 10 million is inevitable, so I just kind of lump it in there with the others. I can see why you don't, different ways of viewing things.
For me, personally, Pokemon, 2D Mario, and Mario Kart are their own tier, followed by Smash, Animal Crossing, 3D Mario, 3D Zelda, and Splatoon. I'm curious to see if Smash will make the transition up with the upcoming game.
When people say "big" wrt Nintendo, they mean games that sell enough to move tons of hardware units. They aren't saying that other games aren't also big for their respective genres.
Like a Minecraft or Don't Starve type situation but with the added anxiety of trying to keep hundreds of tiny creates alive as well...

yeah, the big questions are if Smash can go into that top tier.
Another lesser mentioned questioned is if Donkey Kong can reenter that 2nd tier. TF Port is doing well. DK just needs a new brand new game to see where the IP really is at. Can a new 2D DKC sell more towards 5m or 10m?

See I fully expect Smash to sell around 20 million. So I expect it to join that very top tier list.

I never knew I wanted this, and now I do. It's the perfect fit, when you think about it
Prediction time
- 2019 first party stuff
- NSMB and and another, better received wii u port
- A strong showing from western third parties with some genuine enthusiasm and a varied lineup from the likes of take 2
- Absolutely fucking terrible support from japanese third parties like squarenix/capcom/sega/namco as has been the case for the past year and a half

WiiSports is in a weird place. At its peak it was a juggernaut like no other.
I'm actually really interested in seeing how the franchise does outside the Wii ecosystem.
Actually that'll be cool. You get a choice if you want to leave the planet for the night or stay, while staying can get you extra things and progress farther, it's also brings out more difficult enemies. Wouldn't be shocked if that's Pikmin 4's main thing.
Anyone else thinking a Xenoblade character is going to be revealed tomorrow for Smash? Given that Torna launches this Friday.
If you guys think they're gonna announce anything major 2-3mo before Smash Bros comes out, you're insane. Nintendo won't risk .0001% of hype being distracted from SSB for anything.
