God I'm so torn - I absolutely love the setting and Kassandra seems like an amazing character, but I absolutely hated the combat in Odyssey and even moreso the mission design :( I'm sure I'll end up picking it up at some point, I can't help myself with AC games.

I watched the 20 minutes one of the spanish website vandal, and the guy said he loved it, its a better version of origins, a game he also really liked, and everything new they added was really fun. He also said he find the main story much better told and engaging, but i never had a problem with the story in origins (although i have to say, thats ebcuase im talking more about Bayek's personal story here, and some sidequests, the villans plot was meh).
Im really excited.

Most hyped thing for me is the character model imporvement (there was a TON of repetitive models for characters in Origins) and the dialogue options and animations.

Hola, I wrote a very specific, spoiler-free thing about being bisexual / romance choices, went live today.

You can read here.

Choice quotes from senior producer:
Thank you :)! I didn't know that there'd be a Roman love interest (didn't know the Romans would have much of a presence in this at all, TBH :p).

I am an admitted AC junky and I can't wait for this. Origins was really good and I managed to snag the Gold Steelbook edition of this while Amazon was still doing 20% off for Prime members.

Don't want to see anything more but it's nice to see positive impressions.

The setting alone almost guarantees that I will like the game.

I loved Origins, completed all the quests and DLCs. My excitement on the game started to wane recently because on the offset it looked like more Origins and there were so many games coming out in the next few months that I also wanted to play. Then I saw the option for Exploration Mode and I was back in.

This is genuinely my most-anticipated game for the rest of the year, and I'm not even much of an Assassin's Creed fan. With BioWare off doing Anthem, Cyberpunk still on the distant horizon, and Obsidian still mainly working with smaller budgets - come on Outer Worlds!!! - I thought it'd be years before I got to play another big budget, dialogue-driven RPG. I'm so glad - and still so shocked? - that Ubisoft, of all people, decided to come riding in to the rescue, and everything I read and see of Odyssey just amplifies that feeling.

(I've only skimmed this stuff tho, 'cause I already know I'm getting it - well, assuming it doesn't tank with the critics I follow - so might as well dodge as many spoilers as possible. I'm still annoyed that I didn't get to go into Mass Effect 2 not knowing the Big Twist of the opening ahead of time.)

it's not only the water shader, it's the waves, seems like geometry deformations when the waves fall on themselves. The most realistic water ocean shore that i ever see in any videogame! If it's really in that way, this is the definitive proof that water can be excellent and with real geometric deformation in any game with enough budget and time, it's no a power problem anymore! Unfortunately only ubisoft managed to get this kind of water in most of their games lately. Others adventures games are really behind in this aspect (shadow of the tomb raider seems to have the same painted waves on the surface like oblivion! A 2006 game! I hate that kind of water with all myself!!!)

i have a feeling its a combo of the water tech from origins but the wave part right against the beach may be animated texture created from actual video footage and blended into the water mesh. cant say until i see it up close

My most anticipated game of the year by a mile at this point.

Exploration mode?
Meaningful player choice?
Excellent writing?
Smaller objectives and outposts having a purpose and tying into a larger system?

They took all of my complaints from Origins (my personal GotY last year) and addressed them. This will be a long three weeks.

The game is looking better and better. I am not picking it up till next year (heya backlog) but I will definitely play this one.

Loved Origins and love Greek setting plus all the improvements.

TBF, it does seem like there is a lot more water in Odyssey, so my guess it that the landmass is roughly the same, which is still huge. I'm really looking forward to Odyssey, but I hate Ubi's pricing structure for the game. Like I did with Origins, I'm going to wait until I can get the "complete edition", or whatever the most expensive/complete version of the game is for the same price as the base game at launch and jump in then. If history has taught me anything, that should be by around Christmas.
Yeap, that's what I did with Origins, grabbed the "Gold Edition" which had Season Pass and some other crap for $45 on BF or maybe Christmas (don't quite remember).

Edit: I do wish Ubisoft goes all in at some point and dumps the modern stuff. We already got Gods and Magic in Origins and Odyssey, might as well make the whole thing alternate history RPG series :P.

Yep looks good but yeh, doing the same and getting this on sale so I can bag the season pass included unless gmg has something good in the coming weeks.

I like the look of this but I still haven't gone back to finish the Origins DLC and I really liked that game. I wish this game was coming out next year rather than this though.

For some reason I thought this game came out in November...not 3 weeks from now. I really want to play it. But this is going to be a long game, and with Red Dead a few weeks after that...I might have to hold off. Like everything I'm seeing though.

Can't wait for AC Odyssey. My most anticipated game for the last six months of 2018. Thanks to a 25% off promo code from Best Buy and the 20% off via GCU I had before it expired a few weeks ago, I was about to get the Gold Edition for $56 plus tax including the $10 pre-order reward certificate. Great deal as I was all in for Odyssey anyway. 20 more days to go for me!!!

This is our own video but I figured this specific section could be interesting to some in this thread: I spent the last hour of my game session traveling about 10 km through the open worlds and ended up visiting both Athens and Sparta, which are - as far as I know - among the biggest cities in this game.

From this timestamp on there's about 4 minutes of footage of various locations in the world, including those cities, just ignore the german talk in the background if you don't speak the language ;)

There's another short look at Athens at 28:30.

Hello people!

Pre-ordered the nice steelbook edition primarily because I haven't played an AC since III & Ubi is giving this series a break in 2019.

Anyone on PS4, take a look at their Free Odyssey theme.

There's no branding (Yay!) & the artwork is minimalistic & sharp hehee...

I just want to know the same thing I want to know every year.

Does it have non situational ambient music? Meaning, not during a mission, not during combat, not when swimming, or anything that could otherwise trigger music to start playing. Just music that comes and goes as you explore the world doing nothing, even just standing still.

And since Origins had it, does it also have a music frequency option in the menus?

Looks great, but I'm still suffering burnout from Origins. As good as this one may be, I'll be taking a break and probably look to pick up the inevitable GOTY edition. Hopefully they go back to a 2 year cadence.

The tide/waves rolling up on shore is something that has been modeled and present in games for many years now, but never looking so close like that. I think there was one particular beach area in Origins but I don't remember it having rolling waves like that, will have to double-check.

Odyssey sounds amazing. I will definitely play it, but in 2019. Clearing outposts in Origins burned me so much on this formula, that I don't think I have enough patience for even bigger sequel.

I'll be honest. I'll probably skip the side content. It sucked in Origins.

I tried to in Origins but the levelgating made it impossible.

I'm hoping the team has learnt from Origins and made side quests more substantial in terms of EXP gain. Origins had the issue where side quests gave you so little EXP that it felt like you weren't making much progress at all after doing a few of them. Its DLC fixed this issue but went a bit too far in the other direction, so Odyssey has to strike a balance there.

? I felt overleveld because of doing sidequests, and that wasn't even close to doing all of them

Origins had the issue where sidequests were repetitive, boring, irrelevant to the story and poor in terms of rewards.

Yet, you HAD to do sidequests in order to level up for the later half of the base-game mainline, DLC and for the god challenges.

It's weird, I would say the same in the first half of the game but in the second half when the level gating really kicks in each side quest had very little weight to it in terms of character progression. I finished that game drastically overlevelled and cheesed the final boss because I just couldn't be doing 10+ side missions to get to where I "should" have been.

I was particularly impressed by the editing and amount of little gestures here:
ioqTndr.gif

A lot of work went into the tools for the RPG convo system and it shows. In another life we could've had another Mass Effect Andromeda situation where the team struggled to create the proper tools and didn't have a sufficient workforce.

Is this a multiple choice cutscene?

Sounds good!
I haven't played Ass.Creed games since Revelations, this seems like a good one to return to the franchise?

Do we know if the level system from Origins is back? That was terrible IMO. Having to do tons of sidequests just to reach a level to continue story missions.

Can't wait to start this game and find out that my 2500K@4ghz can't power it at 60fps anymore

Fucking Intel move the fuck on with those 9900Ks dammit
