Sounds redundant, everything Alan Wake did in video game form has already been done ad nauseum in tv and film.

Kind of like the Uncharted movie, I don't see any potential.
Execution and the story being told matters more than originality. So what if elements have been done elsewhere, if the elements are done well in the context of this story?

Whaaat.

Boy am I glad Sam is involved in this. If this ends up being the form an AW sequel has to take, then I guess I'm in.

Very interested to see where this leads, at the very least.

It's one thing to be skeptical, but to literally say "I don't see any potential" is laughable. How limited does one's imagination have to be?

I really hope this works out and we get an interesting expansion of the Alan Wake universe.

Maybe that's a sign that Alan Wake 2 might be coming

Yeah i know it isn't, let me dream in peace
Some of the concepts in alan wake can work pretty well as a tv series. better than they worked in a game, even

I have no idea how well it aged, as I have not played it in many years. However, it's perhaps the third person action/adventure game that thrilled me the most to play, just so damn atmospheric and excellent in just about every sense for the times. A sequel would be glorious, and I really hope it'll eventually happen, no matter how long it'll take. Hopefully this show will get us a step closer to that.

Could bridge the gap between the original and a sequel? Ah well it's a start.

There's also a Halo TV show in the works .. Hmmmmmmmm (just wild speculation here)

IN IN IN

I really hope it's more eiree small town horror with homage elements than the over-the-top campy b-film turn it took in American Nightmare.

I'm hoping for a James McCaffrey cameo and a new Poets of the Fall song.

I'm glad to hear about this. I think I might prefer the story as a TV show instead of a game. I just hope it continues long enough past where the games currently are.

I feel like the success or failure of this show will depend highly on the network that picks it up, if it gets picked up.
This summer on Syfy...

I guess this is as close to a conclusion as we'll ever get if they can actually make it long enough to finish where the game ends.

Still one of my most favorite games ever. Such a laser-focused experience with a killer matrix of meta logic surrounding everything that happens. Games should aspire to have writing that tight, and few have come close since. I want to see Sam Lake UNLEASHED when this airs.

So that's:

- Alan Wake
- Vampyr
- Little Nightmares
- Hitman (Hulu)
- The Witcher (Netflix)
- Halo (Showtime)
- rumored Diablo (Netflix)

all getting show adaptations

I feel like this is what people should have been aiming for all these years. You have all these movies that never get off the ground after the initial announcement because no one wants to spend 60 million on a Metal Gear Solid movie.

And the length of games, especially ones with side missions and expansive worlds, means adaptations are probably better suited for a season format than a two-hour movie

And lets you take more interesting directions, like the John Wick spin-off show The Continental slated for Starz

No, what's going to happen is they'll adapt the video game and the entire first season will be based on the first Alan Wake, even the cliffhanger. Then it'll get cancelled and they'll have to finish the story out in video game form. :)

Speaking of Alan Wake taking inspiration from Twin Peaks, it always struck me as neat that American Nightmare actually had a lot in common with TP: The Return even though AN came out years earlier.

I'd watch this for sure. AW was amazing and a sequel would be amazing. I'd buy an Xbox or build a PC for it. I'm 98 episodes into the original Twilight Zone so far and I only started watching that because of Alan Wake lol.

I really urge you to read the article!

Harlan added that the show won't tell a story that is in "lockstep" with the game. (...) "The story of the original game is our starting point, the seed which will grow into the bigger story we're exploring in the show," Lake said. "We'll be expanding the lore of this crazy and dark universe and diving deeper into certain aspects of it than the game ever did."

That includes tapping into some of the story planned for that unreleased second game.

"Not only that, but through the years, we've worked on multiple game concepts and stories for Alan Wake's world that have never seen the light of day," Lake said. "All of this material will function as potential source material for the show."

also, regarding an alan wake sequel, as always, we're exploring possibilities and would love to make it when the time is right - that has never been not true - but right now we are busy making control and crossfire 2 / hd story mode as well as our recently announced vanguard project, and we will be busy with those for the foreseeable future.
