Shit I thought I thought I could stay on X for another year but if they release a good looking red or blue variant I will upgrade this year.

I'm really curious where they're going with the pricing. I'm hoping they put the Max at 999 and the X at 899. If they make the r 749 they'd still be getting more than the base model 8. That's at least the pricing I'm hoping for. Then I can upgrade to the max with no difference in payment.

The question is: Is the XR going to be an "upgrade" to your X. The screen is supposedly LCD, i.e. worse.

The XR might be X internals with a sub-X screen in a new, more colorful body. Similar to how the 5C was just an iPhone 5 in colorful plastic (yet with the same screen as the 5)

No iPad Pro??

I was already waiting until last June on the possible refresh to get a one. Dunno if I can wait much longer but it will suck to see a new released less than a year from now.
I don't think they ever released a new iPad with a new iPhone before? It's always in Fall or spring

That's true, but since it was already expected in the spring event, there were lots of rumours around that it would be announced now. Will there be an October event this year?

I have no desire to take a day off to secure a phone. Two weeks after release what is availability like?

Seeing how many SKUs there are, if you're willing to compromise on color or storage, you might be able to easily grab one.
I was sitting out on the action last year, but in the "7 / 7S" year, it was mostly the glossy piano black 7 and 7+ that were hard to get, even 2 weeks in.

Reminds me of old Peugeot models. The 306 equipment level went XN, XR, XT. Then there was a sportier version called XS, and the faster variant was XSi.

It's not like the iPhone naming hasn't been without plenty of offenders throughout the years. But still, the names are quite out there. I can't even see where they will go next, if not XS 2, XS 2 Max, XR 2 and so forth. Conveys such a different feel for the line, less human and more inorganic. I guess in the end it's whatever, people don't buy them for the name.

It will all depend on the configuration you want. Higher storage (512GB for example) usually sell out first, you may have to wait a month or two. You'll be able to walk into any store at any time and pick up some models with no trouble. Preorder is supposedly starting this friday at 3AM eastern

yeah some investigation to be done for sure. But if it is X internals with a downgraded screen (LCD, lower res) but physically larger, that really can't justify a high price. and XS internals with larger but less quality screen could be argued to be better than XS (lower res screen will mean faster, physically bigger screen)

that twitter link showing yellow and coral sounds interesting. I'd potentially be up for a bright yellow phone

Does anyone know how fast the att premier sites update? I am on a corporate plan that still does 2 year contracts. I can get the current X for 599 as an example. Im wondering though if I won't be able to preorder at 3 am. Maybe I can wait a few weeks.

Are we expecting preorders to open this Friday with a release on the following one?

Wait, so we're not getting an iPad Pro this year? I've been waiting just for this announcement...

I bet we get another Apple Event in October for stuff like the iPad Pro and the Air.

That being said while today usually is reserved for iPhones and Watches I get why people wanted or expected more. It feels like some of these other products would have been announced already at other events throughout the year, and people got nada.

So yeah consumers are restless.

Tell me about it, i'd love a colorful phone - although, with those glass backs, i'm likely going to be putting it in a case (rocked the caseless life up until my iPhone 7 now); and the front is all-screen anyways so i guess we're not going to miss out on much.

And personally, i'd assume the lineup is going to look like this, considering they tend to keep the previous 2 generations available in their store.

Premium Tier: iPhone XS / XS Max: Apple A12 processor
"Last year's hardware": iPhone XR: Apple A11 processor (basically the X with an LCD screen at a larger size, but only one camera)
"Entry model": iPhone 7: Apple A10 processor.

Which would mean the iPhone 8 and X are gone just after 1 generation.
Another constellation might be switching to "all-screen" phones entirely by:

Premium Tier: XS / XS
"Last Year's": X (drop the 8)
"Entry model": XR with iPhone 7 internals.

Can we except release date for the latest ios and perhaps maybe macOS from this event?
MacOS I'm not sure, but iOS positively. It will be a few days before the new iPhones are released. And like a week earlier for developers and I think for people on the public beta too.

If they put dual SIM support in the US model I'm really going to regret buying an iPhone X a few days ago. Otherwise I can't imagine anything they would add to the new phones that are going to make me want them.

What makes you think Apple is going to keep the 7 but retire the 8?

Doesn't really make sense to me. If they are keeping a touchID model around (and I'm sure they are), I'd reckon it'd be the 8 models.

Quite surprised they are doing a 128GB model of the Xr, that will be the sweet spot for a lot of people. They usually stick to 64/256GB to 'force' people up to the more expensive model.
I don't see the 128GB you're referring to.

That would be a sweet spot for me.

Edit: Ah, that's the XR. Bummer.
