Music theory could still apply somehow even with a Zelda exception. Zelda's music choice was up around E3, I think if we get one now it would be fine.

Skull Kid getting in would disprove the music theory, yes. However now that we know a music update was skipped (likely because it was attached to a newcomer in the direct) I'm pretty confident Skull Kid is not going to be revealed in this direct, because if he was there wouldn't be a Zelda music update for him and therefore no reason to skip it. Unless we're getting 2 newcomers, but that seems unlikely since it'd mean both newcomers would not get a memory, and if Skull Kid gets in I'd expect him to have a memory.

Personally, I am rooting for two masked characters - the heroic Wonder Red, and the wicked Skull Kid.
I don't see how them swapping music makes the music rule more likely. If it's Waddle Dee then posting another Kirby remix, maybe of a theme related to him, after reveal just makes sense.
As for the Pikmin remix... My least favourite so far. I couldn't even recognize it was the main theme. :(
