I can't dig out my old post atm but while I don't think the music theory is definitive, there are still more franchises unrepresented on the site than there are weeks left leading up to Smash Ultimate's release - even if you exclude franchises unlikely to get any real major remixes. And you still have to account for non-franchise tracks that go up like Galaga and Snipperclips.

There is an obscene amount of leeway for the blog to avoid posting franchises that are due for a character rep. Insofar there's some merit to it, but I kind of expect it to fall apart at any moment's notice despite the likelihood that no franchise is getting repeats.

The Music Rulers have been accounting for the possibility of Mario getting a mainline song and a spinoff song uploaded to the site since the beginning, since Mario is split into two categories in the My Music menu (and received two such songs on Smash 4's music page)

fitting name, but it doesn't quite capture the tyranny

It kills me to know that Lurantis would likely not have its shiny colors as an alt because TPC is lame

The problem is all unique newcomers are more likely to get their own songs on websites therefore they would get it before the game release (it doesn't matter if old franchises didn't get their chance with the songs) but old franchise being shown "helped" us to figure out which franchises got "disconfirmed."

The biggest argument against the music rule is that they wouldn't want to give people a way to figure out what franchises have new reps and which ones don't. Like everything else, it depends on how accurately they are able to gauge its fanbase's obsession and attention to detail, which to be fair they seem to be unusually good at.

Geno will get a Super Mario RPG specific emblem and thus the music theory will live on

This is part of the reason I'm expecting a swerve - however it's worth keeping in mind that with Sakurai's comment about newcomers and the fact of there being new series represented altogether, they're probably not all that fussed about burying the lede. They have so much room to pad out things between character reveals and a lot of tracks so far are from series that wouldn't seemingly deconfirm a notable character's chances. I kinda expect a few more non-rep tunes to go up in the coming weeks once we get this next set of newcomers out of the way.

He's gonna have Majora's Mask as his icon and be treated as his own series. You'll see!

I would actually be totally happy with that.
The Triforce icon isn't actually meant to represent the zelda series - it really represents the holders of the Triforce. Has nobody noticed that every playable character from zelda has a piece of the Triforce? It's not a coincidence.

Last night I, based solely off the image urls, talked about some odd gaps early on in the website

with the ability ot see what the heck these things are called internally, mysteries...revealed! I mean they're kind of pointless but I care dang it and that's all that matters.
  • The update I thought was the 6th was actually the 7th (just a link to e3 stuff through niconico./openrec)
  • The music & amiibo updates were 9 & 10 respectively.
  • The gamecube controller update did count. According to the json it is 12!
  • The 13th chronological update was for Treehouse live (ft Sakurai) but this is 6th internally.
  • Some updates have internal descriptive titles that dont show up on the blog. The gamecube controller is 012-GC, for example. The showfloor updates are E3会場の様子1, 017 - E3会場の様子2, etc
  • The RAGE demo post is "22-1". I cant believe the blog has gaidens
  • There is still a 3 update gap between Alolan Vulpix (22) and Mario's character video (26)
  • I was an idiot who scrolled passed the blackhole update. There is no gap between bomb rush blush & bomberman like I thought.
  • I originally thought there was a 2 update gap between Noisy Notebook & Sukapon because I assumed Corrin was #36. Turns out there is a 2 update gap, it's just between Ice Climber's memory (35) & Corrin (38).
  • For DK his title is mislabeled. It should be 45, but is labeled as 46. His Memory is still labeled 46 and numbering after that still follows that. Oops!
  • Another title mistake: the smash direct reminder that I thought was just another "phantom" update was titled 94, with every thing after that accounting for it...until the "hey a bunch of places on the site updated" post and bloody tears were given the "98" title.
  • Despite having "proper" filenames, Ness' memory is titled 200 instead of 120. Nothing after it is 201 or 202 or whatever though.
  • I think Rathalos being 122 might be them correcting after having two 98s. But that could just be human brains looking for patterns so maybe it was just a skipped update for some reason. Keep an eye out for "121" in the future!
  • And then as already brought up by the tweet...Bowser is 142, Toon Link was 138/139, Pikmin Main Theme was 146
So I think the order of operations here, assuming we dont get any weird numbering issues or gaps
Friday: At the very least 134 & 135

Monday: 136 if it wasn't done on Friday. 137 absolutely has to be for this day. We need to be done with all 4 of those posts because....
Tuesday: The fact they skipped ahead a ton for Bowser, then went back, makes me think this was always meant to be Toon Link & his memory
Wednesday: These always have 2 updates. Music would be 140 and the follow up update would be 141 (generally not character videos. Assist, Item, Stage, etc are all valid)
Thursday: Probably meant to be Bowser originally.
Friday, the revenge: 143, no memory

Monday: 144, no memory
Tuesday: 145, no memory
Wednesday: Pikmin Main Theme

I'll be very curious what today's second update will be!

Making food based on characters always weirds me out. Like having to make an incision in somethings face just feels so wrong.

Also Waddle dee looking like one of the corrupted animals from Princess Mononoke with that texture

Katamari music for Smash tbh

I'm stoked to see this become a thing.

Can't beat perfection.

I clicked the bar to see if this was the SilvaGunner version, & of course I landed on the part that remixes Megalovania.

Where's Dark Matter?????

:(

And why is Nightmare Wizard front & center? Does he have any fans?

Wario World music can actually be remixed well

Personally, I'd want this song remixed

I'm all in or both of these.

franchises like kirby and mario get multiple remixes per game so i find it hard to believe that a music post deconfirms them
plus bandana dee, geno, paper mario etc arent in the games that have had music updates so it's not like they would coincide with their reveal anyways

What a missed opportunity that fight was in the games, you have the Aether leader merge with one of these extradimensional Pokemon and what does she do?

Fight with her regular Pokemon instead of head-on against the trainer. They actually went through with this idea in the anime.
Standard Game Freak: spark of a great idea, can't be bothered to use it because it involves stepping outside their comfort zone.

If Wonder Red gets deconfirmed, I will leave this forum.

I will probably spend my wasted time making mediocre Twine games instead. One day maybe I'll make a good game.

Or my health will turn for the worse again, and I will waste away.

I hope you can make a good game, too! But don't give up, even if Wonder Red is deconfirmed! I'm convinced this Smash is meant to have legs, & that they may turn fortunes around for characters who are initially deconfirmed. If Wonder Red doesn't make it in, we make noise like we did for Ridley & K. Rool!

Hey guys what's going o-

QWSJswv.gif

I know I said every blog post after Bowser could easily be renumbered but I didn't expect it to be THIS much

I feel sorry for everyone in that Direct thread who were like "thank god hope they give Smash a break" lmao

Yeah, there's no way this Direct doesn't have a glut of Smash content.

What if this is the Gen 7 Pokemon rep?

... I might actually like this idea more than Mimikyu. & I love Mimikyu.

Waddle Dee resting up for his big debut.

Music Theory

Rules

1) This rules only applies to Unique Newcomers So Music Theory excluded echo fighters like Dark Samus and Chrom.
2) If the franchises' songs were shown without any franchise' unique newcomers then they are "disconfirmed" to have a new unique newcomers (example: Kirby song was shown so Bandana Dee is more likely to be disconfirmed)
3) Like certain newcomers franchises' songs always came afterward unique newcomers' announcements (KKR, Simon, Ridley, Inkling)

So The real song that were planned to be posted today got postponed to next week so therefore they moved Pikmin song up to filled out the Wednesday Song Update today.
Woah, cool. If true, then...

First Parties deconfirmed by theory:
  • Zelda
  • Kirby
  • F-ZERO
  • Fire Emblem
  • Yoshi
  • Mario
  • Pikmin
Already has a Unique Newcomer:
  • Splatoon
  • Metroid
  • Castlevania
  • DK

Has no one to add:
  • Ice Climber
  • Game & Watch
  • Warioware (given Ashley's deconfirmed, Wario main series maybe?)
  • R.O.B.
  • Wii Fit
  • Mii
  • Duck Hunt

And then there's the third parties, which probably won't have a new unique character. That said, Final Fantasy IS conspicuously absent.... Terra? Chocobo? Please not Noctis...

Thus the ones still in the running are Star Fox, Pokemon, Earthbound, Animal Crossing, Punch-Out, Xenoblade Chronicles, and Kid Icarus

So. Yeah. Supposing this rule is even remotely real....
  • I think Star Fox won't have a newcomer. Krystal is literally the best choice for a newcomer. Slippy and Peppy aren't really fit for fighting, and it'd be weird to have a unique Panther or the Chameleon guy before a unique Krystal. Maybe an echo of one of the three already in would work for the latter two though.
  • Pokemon. Could be anything, but I'm assuming yes, we WILL get one. Most likely Gen 7. Lycanroc, Tapu Koko, ANY of the three starters, Tsareena Steenee. Hell, even an Alolan Pokemon trainer (Lillie?). I guess they could do the new Eevee evolution, but would Sakurai have known about it at the time?
  • Earthbound... eh. Without Kumatora and any Earthbound/Mother 2 party members left, I really don't know. Ninten seems like a prime Echo material.
  • Animal Crossing is, obviously, Isabelle. I think she's the ONLY true hard lock we have given her popularity. Now whether she's an echo or a unique fighter is yet to be seen. But if this rule is true, I think the chances of her being unique go way up. That's she's in Mario Kart is worth something, surely.
  • Punch-Out could be anyone from that series, honestly. With the adversary theme, maybe King Hippo?
  • Xenoblade Chronicles is obvious- Elma. 2015 is too soon, I think, for Sakurai to have known how much more wildly popular XC2 would be than XC or XCX. I'm not sure if she's a hard lock though- he might see Shulk as enough.
  • Kid Icarus is a big one here. Though he was more restrained with Kirby, I think it's still possible Sakurai might show some favoritism to what is essentially one of his babies. With that and the adversaries theme in mind, a unique Medusa or Hades is quite possible. And I'd LOVE Medusa. I suppose Magnus, Amazon Pandora, or Phosphora are possible too, though, and the latter two WOULD fit the adversary theme too.
I do think it's silly we wouldn't get a new Zelda character of any sort when we got Daisy. So maybe Skull Kid could be an echo of someone? But who? Either that or my HOTLY REQUESTED Impa echo of Sheik.
I wouldn't say this counts Geno out either. Given he's owned by Square Enix, he might be counted as a "Super Mario RPG" character rather than a Mario character.
And if he wants to throw Kirby something, hey, Dark Metaknight is right there. But as much as it'd up the chances of some of the girls like Impa, Elma, Isabelle, and Medusa and thus slightly hope it's real.... I do ALSO slightly hope this theory is untrue if only for the chance of having Bandanna Buddy.

One more thing:
The Music Rulers have been accounting for the possibility of Mario getting a mainline song and a spinoff song uploaded to the site since the beginning, since Mario is split into two categories in the My Music menu (and received two such songs on Smash 4's music page)

So even if this theory is true, Geno is not out of the running.

Oof. That'd be pretty cool, to be honest. Finally you could see psycho mom's potential!
And yeah, it's a bummer you didn't fight her in the game, it was just another trainer battle.
But hey, you know what? She fits that whole adversary theme. Could totally be a Lusamine trainer in the cards if not Nihilego Lusa.
One more thing:

So even if this theory is true, Geno is not out of the running.
Ohhh, so that was accounted for in the rules too. I did say Geno was still doable so this doesn't change my post, but thanks for telling me.
Woah woah, is that new Pokemon being teased for LG a new Eeveelution?
I was under the impression it was teased to be related to Eevee. It's possible it isn't though.
I did in my post up there, but perhaps I was incorrect.

I've said this before about the music rule, but I think it bears repeating:

The purpose of the "music rule", such as it is, seems to be not having songs of the same series show up relatively recently after a song of that series was already revealed.

Thus, I posit that it would not be unreasonable for a song to be revealed a long long time after that series already got a song.

Example: The Legend of Zelda already got a song, but it was 3 months ago, so it getting another song would not result in two Zelda songs relatively close to one another. By contrast, we probably won't see another Fire Emblem song soon because the last one was revealed much more recently in comparison.

I have no evidence to back this up other than my gut.

Leak: my uncle is gamecube and he told me the Direct is Sept 32nd and the new characters are Count Bleck with Nabbit as his echo, Darth Vader, Blue's Clues and Steve+Blue as an echo of Rosalina and Luma.

Also if you beat Tabuu 9999 times in a row, Professor Oak will come out and say "I'm tired of this!" and he'll take you to the area behind Bill's House and in Bill's secret garden you can catch Pokegods.
