They're FUCKING FANTASTIC dude. Play Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets on the GBC.

The reason they are RPGs is because EA didn't care about the Game Boy Color and focused solely on the Harry Potter games for the other platforms, giving the developers (Griptonite) free reign to do whatever they wanted. So without any publisher meddling they created two of the finest RPGs of that era.

Wow I'm sold. I have a GBC at my parents house, and will try and get Sorceror's Stone if I can find it.

Did they not perform well enough to continue on with the series? Or did the release of the DS change things?

So here's the story. Griptonite Games created two incredible JRPG-style Harry Potter games because they had free reign to do whatever they want: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone along with Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets for the GBC. The Chamber of Secrets GBC version was actually the very last GBC game ever released in the USA!

Afterwards EA took notice of the great sales and incredible support the GBC versions had, and decided to commission the same team that made the GBC versions to make the GBA version of Prisoner of Azkaban.

Unfortunately while the team tried their best, this time EA heavily meddled in the development of Prisoner of Azkaban for the GBA...and gave them a super limited deadline and a super tiny budget to complete the game along with cutting content and over-ruling them on many decisions. So while it's still good, it's nowhere near the level of brilliance of the predecessors thanks to EA.

Burnt out from the dreadful experience of trying to complete that game, the Griptonite team disbanded afterwards. They still made some incredible games like The Sims Bustin Out and Urbz: Sims in the City for the GBA, but they never had the chance to create a full-fledged RPG like that ever again.

It's really tragic the way that all unfolded. But those two games are still absolute gems and definitely worth your time. They're very underrated because they're licensed games and people tend to overlook them.

brazil, unfortunately
I'm still yet to understand the origins of this Final Fantasy VII rumor.

This sounds like that typical kind of thing that only makes people mad later because it turned out to be false.

And people getting mad because of something that never existed is a typical ERA reaction...

Remember when people said $250 pricing was locked and walked away from their January Switch reveal event angry and disappointed?

FFVII is locked! :P

It was a GameXplain prediction by Jonneh who has inside information from time to time.

the people discussing that, exactly like those discussing the xenoblade 2 designs, were never interested in either of those games anyway, they're just kneejerking
What a silly way to deflect criticism.
Xenoblade 2 is a possibly top 10 of all time to me and my biggest complaint about it is the gross, trashy, character designs.

Thanks for this! My search for the GBC games begins. That game boy better still be where I left it...

I wonder what direction Nintendo would have taken with this franchise had they been successful in buying the rights.

Eh.
Of the main cast the only questionable one is Pyra and her alternate form is decently dressed.

Don't like some of the guest artist rare blades, but you don't need to put them in your party anyways.

I think there are new costumes for everyone too if you don't like the current ones

Just chiming in to say Chamber of Secrets GBC is absolutely one of the coolest games on the system and absolutely worth buying, especially since it's pretty cheap. I loved coming across all of the secrets and hidden passages in the game.

I don't know if they made the jump over here or not, but I recall one of the developers of the the GBC games actually posted on the old site.

yep, I remember that vividly.

there you go...

Yeah the FFVII rumour I think might be true in that several people including GameXplain have hinted at it. Before the original direct last week, the Spawncast crew all had similar predictions in their own channels.

Not even $250 rumor was so consistent, at least not from my memory. I felt like people believed in it cause the nVidia sheild was priced the same.

I guess saying it once more won't hurt :P
Final Fantasy 7 was said in a predictions video, a series of guesses with no basis behind any of them.
