It's a good point though- why does Nintendo seem to attract a more fanatical base than other major developers?

Is it the games themselves? Is it because Nintendo is less stereotypically "cool", so fans are generally more relaxed about expressing themselves? Is it a hive mentality thing where the actions of the few influence the many?

Genuinely want to read a research project on this now.

You know Sony hype has gotten out of hand when people create threads like "Does everyone agree that <new PlayStation game> is TEH BEST EVAR?!"

;-)
To be fair, us Nintendo fans have often done the same, such as for Zelda. It's only natural for us to share our enthusiasm for games we really enjoy. Some folk have a nasty habit of trying to imply one of the Big 3 has a far worse fanbase than the other

TR Anniversary was probably the best fun I had with my Wii back in the day. That game was awesome.

People said that for this January too.
Well speaking personally I've thought since 2017 that 2019 will be a GOAT year for Switch, so I still stand by what I said.

But who knows it's Nintendo, they always surprise. Even if I didn't think 2018 would be as big from a big AAA first party perspective, I definitely didn't expect them to open the year with a direct mini haha.

However, we're already seeing enough new games for 2019 to have a January direct such as FE, DxM and Yoshi. Likely Smash DLC too.

i think a big part of what sets nintendo hype and nintendo fans apart is the diversity. when it comes to sony, most of them like most of the games. like, if you like uncharted, you also probably liked horizon, god of war, and spiderman. nintendo's history and large catalog results in many different kind of nintendo fans and thus there are more things to talk about/argue/shitpost. i may be totally off base tho

I think this is fair. For instance, in terms of big Nintendo first party games, Metroid is my favorite franchise of all time and I couldn't give less of a fuck about Animal Crossing.

And while big Sony first party games are definitely not rehashes, they are more similar to each other than Nintendo's.

I'd counter Sony's is just enough dumb fun that they can get the directors for the games they love to come in and join the hype. See God of War and Cory Balrog
That's true, the God of War preview thread was probably the best one on this site

I don't know how I forgot it, considering I made that thread lol.

Probably because I've been in Direct mode, and Nintendo fans are really the only ones who's get THIS hype for marketing video, not just games themselves.

Though I do wish we had more Nintendo devs on here

My theory is that the majority of Nintendo fans are less self-conscious, as part of overcoming the hurdle of playing on a "kiddie" console. That liberates us to express our enthusiasm freely with less consideration for how others might see us, and ends up looking more "fanatical" in turn.

To be fair, us Nintendo fans have often done the same, such as for Zelda.
Hence the winky.

Though if someone were to start a "Is BotW the BEST GAME EVAR?!" thread, I'd be sorely tempted to step in and virtual-slap the poster myself. It's damn good, but not that good.

Best games, best hype threads, worst fanbase

It's the natural order of things
Perfectly balanced, as all things should be.

We could get Mario Kart Tour details tomorrow at Apples Conference, then on Thursday we get Mario Kart 8D DLC.
I didn't think about that, it's a possibility but would they really shun Android owners again if they wanted to do have crossover appeal with the mobile app and MK on Switch?
If MK is indeed at apples conference i'm guessing it'd be a timed exclusive again so I don't think it'd have any links to Mario Kart 8 DX DLC (if there is)
i hope not, i don't want to feel like i have to play the mobile game to unlock stuff in the switch game.
It's just speculation but based on the quote that they could add more things to MK8DX, the updates we've gotten over the year to a year old game, their mobile strategy which is to bring mobile players to their consoles and Mario Kart Tour launching it does seem like we'll get DLC.

If we're getting DLC it'll definitely connect to the mobile game but I doubt it'd be something you'd have to continue doing, more likely like the amiibo costumes that once unlocked you'll have it on the console game forever and not something you'd have to spend a lot of time on the mobile game.

I think it's the opposite. Nintendo consoles in the past have offered less variety than consoles with a ridiculous amount of third party support, and so that attracts a type of gamer that is super keen on the types of games Nintendo themselves create.

Sony and Microsoft on the other hand have a little something for everyone. So they have a bigger market share but a less engaged fan base.

Newcomers wish for Smash :
There's a duo of characters that would be awesome, especially with the concept of « Echo » : Madeleine and Badeleine from Celeste.

Also : Dandara as an Assist Trophee (BTW, Dandara 1.05 patch available, sweet improvements).

I think the best for the lifetime will probably be in 2019, maybe a January one.

This one will probably have remnants of stuff we already know about for 2018 - like Super Mario Party, Pokemon Let's Go. And will inevitably reveal a probably not-too-hype NSMBU port.

Of course, the Smash newcomer will be hype and there will be some surprises. But I think we'll see our best directs when next year kicks in with Prime, SMTV and Bayo ready to be seen, maybe the year after that when 3DS teams move to Switch and the 3D Mario and Zelda teams as well as Monolith are ready to show off their next projects
I think this Direct will see some cool 2019 stuff.

Edit: On second thought, I'll remove this just in case linking to the old place is not allowed even as a joke.

I do miss it when Mods and Insiders used to throw us a bone and tease us with something.

Made these hype threads even more epic :(

Oh i don't disagree at all, I'm just refuting the statement that it'll be the best of the Switch's life. It still has a job to do in marketing the rest of 2018's lineup of games that we've seen a lot of already, and that's probably less exciting to people.
I think it will be the best one so far. I am sure one will eventually come along that will be better haha.

Midgar, With Love
My school will be closed after 3PM EST tomorrow and then closed all day on Thursday and Friday in light of the incoming hurricane.

This is good for two key reasons. First, it means that my safety and the safety of my friends is being taken care of. Second, and crucially, I will be home for the September 13th Nintendo Direct at 6PM EST.

(Safety is far more important, but shhh.)
