Eh, they'd probably have to change the dialogue during the scene where Lucas learns PSI. A joke about child rape probably won't go over well, regardless of rating.
I'M SORRY! I opened this can of worms by trying to say that defining what "qualifies" a character for Smash is useless because there is no set criteria.
Clearly that backfired since now we are discussing the technicalities that somehow "allowed" Cloud to make it.

I don't think the articles would happen. An M rating would drive off mainstream audiences, and the people who remain would understand the context (ie, Japanese game released more than a decade ago).
I always laugh my ass off at the bs narrative that Disney has a problem with Nintendo and they wouldn't let Sora in Smash.
A) there's no problem
B) they said they leave the decision to Nomura and Square
Disney and Nintendo aren't petty because Nintendo has Universal making Nintendo Land. It was the right move. Disney is doing a whole bunch of other stuff
Is it transphobic? The magypsies are very benign and aren't ridiculed unless the player brings those notions in themselves. The mermaid statues are only questionable due to Lucas's age.
I never understand this argument. Smash has become a video game crossover fighter that isn't limited to Nintendo anymore. Having iconic characters from all of gaming outside of Nintendo just furthers this idea. I mean you can have an 8-player match in Ultimate with Sonic, Ryu, Mega Man, Cloud, Snake, Bayonetta, Simon, and Richter.

I can see the video now. Kirby discovers a keyblade laying on top of a pile of bricks and just as Kirby grabs the keyblade, the pile of bricks suddenly burst and Kirby and the keyblade get flown to a waterfall (or something).
Suddenly you see that Ralph had been hidden underneath the pile of bricks taking a nap. He yawns, rubs his eyes, then cracks his knuckles.

"Megaton" means "whatever I'm looking forward to most" to people here. We had some calling Civilization VI a niche title...but Mother 3 is supposed to be the Megaton? Mmkay
The issue I see isn't that Disney has a problem with Sora being in Smash, it's that Nintendo might have a problem with what will have to happen to get Disney to let him in. For World of Final Fantasy and Record Keeper (two games by Square Enix, mind), Sora was only let in to the former as limited-time DLC and he was only let into the latter with giant watermarks on the weapons... and also only for a limited time.
Tomorrow we should get the date. We pretty much know it's September 13.

Lawyer from Nintendo: "Hey, we want to use Sora from Kingdom Hearts in our crossover video game, is that cool?"
Lawyer from Disney: "Yeah here's the licensing fee and royalties"

If Sora's not in the game it's just because Nintendo doesn't want to use him.
We know this. It's not like Disney is on some pedestal. ALL third party devs have negotiated with Sakurai and Nintendo. They all want money and whatever demands.
This is Smash not World of FF, Dissidia or whatever. Whatever decisions they made there is what they made. Sakurai ain't going into this for some half assed Sora. He goes all the way. Nintendo either pays up or doesn't.

I get that Cloud is an iconic character but is Sora not approaching that level of recognition as well? His whole gimmick is to travel to different Disney Worlds.

If Mother 3 isn't announced this week then I have a idea of what to call my Undertale Switch OT subtitle.
Still, Sora is owned by Disney, Disney would need to play ball with Nintendo.

No, not really. Altough I assume that for some members of our passionate community the boredom of this watchful waiting must feel like a daily struggle at this point. Hopefully this struggle is going to persist for not much longer. While I wish to refrain from revealing too much, I am quite confident we will meet this upcoming Nintendo Direct before long. If everything goes as in the best of worlds it should happen within days, not weeks.

Ralph and Sora cannot co-exist, as Ralph 2 seems to shamefully deny that Alice is a princess.
I don't think MK8DX DLC will happen until we get more details on Mario Kart Tour, I'm guessing there's going to be some connecting between the two.
Sora isn't going to happen. Disney would demand a level of control over the game Nintendo would never be happy with; see all the reports on disney meddling with MVC:I.
And they'd probably never let him fight Bayonetta anyway.
