:pYou're right, anecdotal evidence of a small sample size is more representative of reality than a statistical survey.
It's polling a small number of active gamers.
work week (after work) and the weekend?
For a population of 330,000,000, with a 99% confidence level, and a 2% confidence interval, you'd only need 4160 people.
I wonder what percentage of people are PC gamers in a more core sense, like people who use Steam for games other than DOTA2?
Your title suggests American when it's really gamers in US, which is why I thought voluntary polling would lead to biased results. For a population of 330,000,000, with a 99% confidence level, and a 2% confidence interval, you'd only need 4160 people.

Yeah, my grandmother logged hours that would put "gamers" to shame playing bejeweled, hidden object, and similar games.Steam has a very active userbase of "non-core" players in genres most people on this board are completely unfamiliar with, such as hidden object games.
I wouldn't count chores et all as leisure time, but alas they must have with that amount of time.I think they're going with a breakdown of roughly 8 hours sleep, 8 hours work, 8 hours free time per day, which would be 72 total counting 16s on weekends.
ITT: People questioning the survey methodology of NPD of all things.
Even just casual Minesweeper?
The PC numbers surprise me actually. I know most people have a computing device but a lot have people have switched to tablets. Does the survey count tablets as mobile?
Yep.A lot of people are thinking of like Steam when they see PC Gamer.
Playing a flash game on Facebook counts as being a PC Gamer. Your grandma playing solitaire on her PC counts as a PC gamer.

I am talking about those surprised how high the PC gamer count is. I mean a lot old ladies in retirement homes who only use computers for facebook count as pc gamers. The % isn't surprising at all given what defines a pc gamer. If anything I am surprised it isn't higher. And only buying FIFA or COD every year counts as a console gamer. So?
Anyone commuting on public transport can put that in easily tapping away at a phone or tablet in what is effectively 'dead time' otherwise, I put in ten hours of gaming a week that way and barely touch games at home.Thats like, an hour and a half a day and a couple of hours a day at the weekend

Why not if they play it ?And only buying FIFA or COD every year counts as a console gamer. So?
I mean, I doubt anyone would expect a % above the console % without "casual" PC/Browser games. But not that it matters. Something like like a meaty RPG is no more of a video game than say Words With Friends on Facebook.Sure, I am just wondering what do you think the percentage would be without these old ladies.
Minesweeper is a great video game. Never played the Windows 10 one though. Are you guys saying Minesweeper is awesome talking about the game that used to come preinstalled on windows, or the... thing... that you have to get off the W10 store nowadays complete with IAPs and Xbox Achievements?
