I hope this means that Sony will become a freelancer and can work on a 3rd person action adventure Mario game. The plot's premise is that Mario is engaged to Peach, but the latter dumps him for his brother.

Is the headline just for the Unties unit publishing a Switch title? Because that's not the first title or time they publish a Switch game, nothing new there.

I'm guessing Nintendo Enthusiast never got the memo like the hundreds of other sites did, including other Nintendo sites, that Sony Music Entertainment now has an indie publishing brand called Unties and is the one that is doing the publishing.

Sony just shot themselves in the foot.....

I don't know how much the rest of you know about console war culture (I'm an expert), but honor and shame are huge parts of it. Console warriors aren't like normal consumers, who'll buy the best products regardless of who makes them. To console warriors, if you publish a game on a competing platform, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is that team-Sony console warriors, after hearing about this, are not going to want to purchase any more Sony products, nor will they scour the internet looking for team-Xbox or team-Nintendo warriors to troll. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Sony has alienated an entire market with this move.

Sony, publicly apologize and cancel The Midnight Sanctuary for Switch or you can kiss your business goodbye.

This isn't a new thing. We've known Unties would be pushing games to Switch since last fall -- the first was Tiny Metal.

It is bizarre, though.

Edit: I see that this is pointed out in the OP; ignore me.

Yep. Back then most sites even reported on this that Tiny Metal was being published by Unties. It was part of the big announcement that SME was getting into indie game publishing.

Are we going to make the same bad joke each time someone notices that Unties is releasing a game on Switch? At least, give more info about the game, even if no one is going to read it.

Besides Tiny Metal, they have released more titles already on Switch, Azure Reflections, Chicki.Chiki Boxy Racers (West) and Fushigi no Gensokyo TOD - Reloaded - (Japan)

Sony as a corporation is convoluted, but I think I have this right-

-There's the PS4 division that makes games exclusively for that system, but will fund/publish games and let them be on PC too like Street Fighter V and Nioh.

-Sony Music has a label called Unties and is bringing games like "The Midnight Sanctuary" and "Tiny Metal" to Switch/ PS4 and PC.

-Sony Online Entertainment (now defunct and a separate company) made Everquest and other titles, and while their games could pop up on Sony consoles, they were mostly PC focused. Sony Online is now the Daybreak Game Company a privately held company that was spun off from Sony to a private investor.

-Sony Forwardworks, a part of the PS4 division, is making new mobile games with Sony's console IP's- Wild Arms, Everybody's Golf (Hot Shots), Parappa the Rapper and more exclusively for the Asia market (they have no plans at all to bring them to the west). That's separate from their previous cell phone initiative- Playstation Mobile which was around from 2012-2016 and ran on select phones and the Vita. The games on it, like Tokyo Jungle Mobile, cannot be downloaded anymore even if you bought them.

SOE doesn't exist anymore.
ForwardWorks is part of the PlayStation/PS4 division in terms of management hierachy, but it's fair to say they're not under the same expectations or business goals.

The Unties thing is like, really old news. Also: Tiny Metal is pretty awesome. As close to Advance Wars as you can get on the Switch.
