She's basically just nothing in the game though. She starts out as an Advent Children Cloud clone, gets some character development, and then does nothing for the rest of the game because she's not even the real main character
People are really implying Lightning as a character on Smash Bros???

We're talking about a likeable character now instead of these two.
Let's be real they could have immediately given the replacement date in the initial announcement for the delay but chose not to. "We're delaying this to X date." That would have avoided all this endless speculation.
Of course endless speculation and hype is what they want so that's why in the end Nintendo continues to just do what works for them. And this is clearly working for them in terms of building hype.
I went from being peacefully uninterested in the smash franchise, to downright hating it in the past few weeks.
That was when Cloud was announced, my dear srtrestre. Lightning would put the roster in a whole new level. Justice would win. (And we would get that FFXIII portable that we so desire.)
Sakurai loves JoJo that doesn't mean Jotaro will get into Smash,same thing applies here

Jojo is an anime character (Sakurai said several times to not even request these), Lightning is a videogame character from Square Enix (a japanese company and already partnering with Smash) and FF's second most iconic character.
