Ok, decision time:

I have a 6P that just started the shut-off at 15% BS. I am with Fi and their deal on the 64GB LG G7 ThinQ is pretty good at $450. I am wondering whether anyone has spent time with it and whether they would recommend that trim for a heavy user who does a fair share of rooting and someone who sticks with their phone at least 2yrs

Get a razor phone for $400.
I had one and it performs as good as XZ2 premium except for the camera.

Grab the One Plus 6. Giant rooting community and a very light but very customize-able skin. Hell, even the developers encourage you to beta test their version of Pie right now.
Coming from the G2, G4 and G6 I'm done with LG and their slow updates. Their skin has progressively gotten worse also and ends up very slow after some time.

I use NOVA as my launcher and de-bloat as my first task with a new phone. The LG UX is super fugly, imho

I don't want to lose carrier switching with Fi, otherwise I would have already bought the OnePlus 6

I have zero experience with LG since my Chocolate II slider. It sounds like LG flagships just aren't worth the trouble

For starters, their firmware update policies are "Korea first, rest of the world whatever". Some of their relatively recent flagships are receiving the Oreo update these days, and their UI skin doesn't do anything new, sufficiently different or advanced enough to even justify such delays.

Just got a Pixel 2 and I'm on Android 9. With Do Not Disturb on, some notifications cause my phone to vibrate and some don't (e.g. Gmail notifications don't vibrate but Slack notifications do). On my old phone with Android 8.1 I had it set to never vibrate when DND is on except for alarms. Is there a setting I'm missing to do this on Pie or is something bugged?

so someone I know is changing phones due to work and willing to sell me their Xiaomi Mi Mix for $250 Canadian, which is like $200usd. Should I bite or stick to my original plan and get something newer for $300 CAD ($250usd). I checked the specs on the xiaomi and its 6gb ram and 256 storage, and played with his phone and honestly it felt nice and the screen is nice.

As always, open to any feedback and suggestions.

Ultrasonic 3rd gen UD FPRs are gonna be insane compared to the optical ones. Speaking of optical sensors, I am curious about one piece of their tech. For them to operate, that specfic portion of the screen is minutely transparent. What's stoppjng them from using that transparency alongside screen dimming for UD front facing cameras?
nothing really.

the IQ won't be as good as a clear glass covering but it's a selfie (trash photo) anyway.

I grabbed the Huawei P20 instead of the Galaxy S8 (both phones were at the same price brand new)
I wanted the best camera. Did I make a mistake?

So I'm going with the Pocophone F1. It only has two LTE bands that AT&T uses, but I'm pretty much fine with full HSPA and limited LTE coverage. The apps I use, Spotify, Discord, etc. work fine on HSPA and the LTE coverage is spotty where I live anyway. The price to performance was too much to look past and my V20 isn't working anymore.

We'll see how this goes! After a two-year external warranty, getting the phone on eBay my cost came out around $360. Not bad, and you could go pretty much MSRP if you were fine going with no warranty.

One of the big advantages of having Android Oreo and over is having LDAC, so just get rid of the dongle altogether.

LDAC doesn't solve the latency issues.
Nothing a bit of software can't fix. What I mean, latency doesn't matter in practical use for most use cases. Nobody will really care if their music starts a couple ms too late (which is also why it won't matter for the average dongle user, either). The only times most people in general use will notice it is if there's a mismatch between audio and video, right? And as long as the Pixel is configured to match the playback with the latency, all should be good regardless of latency value.

Most cases can be resolved on the software level if needed. For instance, my WH-1000XM3's have perfect sync on things like YouTube and Netflix on my OnePlus 6 with the latest Pie Beta (and on iOS, too, for the record), despite whatever latency still exists with the BT4.2 on the headphones (it didn't on the Development Beta, which resulted in a video/audio mismatch, but betas gonna beta). Granted, that's an expensive headset, so mileage will vary on low-end sets, but well worth the investment imo.

Every early beta breaks the audio/video sync in Bluetooth. It's like clockwork.

I imagine the latency is for calls and talking over someone, because otherwise, watching video or listening to music is the same as with a wire.

It isn't. Very few Android devices support Bluetooth 5.0, and without that (unlike Airpods) the Android handset have to send the stream to one earbud, and then that earbud has to forward the signal to the other earbud. This often results in more than a second of latency and wrecks watching video.

Oh, I get you now. So I don't see this effect because I use a full set of cans where left and right and wired together rather than separate buds. I didn't know that latency issue was a thing and that's crazy.

P20 not pro nor Lite.

You got the dual camera version and I read that it's pretty decent, however the S8 is no slouch either.

All these camera comparison reviews are confusing....I can't tell which is a good picture or a bad picture.

I think most mid/high tier phones are capable pictures.

I'll be getting a p20 pro this week that I can compare with my xz2 premium. I already know that I won't do a good job judging which takes better pictures.

There are fully wireless Bluetooth headphones that manage to avoid the latency.

My Bose Soundsport Frees were AWFUL for video. A firmware update that made them usable for some apps (Netflix and Amazon), but not YouTube which is biggest video app I use on my phone.

My current pair of Gear Icon X's are really good though, no problems with latency with them. But it took forever to decide on them because so many have the latency issue and so few reviews mention it. I swear like only 1/5 reviews would even mentioned it.

I think sales will double again to 8 million but assume that you think they will hit at least 6 -7.

Since they have Foxconn now I see shortages to be less of an issue around launch of the Pixel 3.

Verizon and Best Buy ran way more promotions for the 2 than the 1. Walmart and Target actually displayed Pixel 2 when Pixel 1 wasn't even carried in stores. I expect these trends to just accelerate.

Things should get interesting once the Pixel Verizon exclusive contract is up after the Pixel 3.

Availability in more European countries coming.

Why was it terrible?

The screen is muddy and grainy. It had the worst front facing camera I've ever seen, picture looked like it had a Shrek filter on permanently. UI was pretty bad too....

I thought the V20 was awesome, the v30 was just meh...

It was a battle between the XZ premium, Razer phone and the v30. The v30 was the first to go.

Da Fuq is Qualcomm doing with their new Watch chips.

3100 series is supposed to be a savior, but it's 28nm with old ass cores.

The cop out reason they give is 10nm has too much passive battery drain. Meanwhile Apple and Samsung point and laugh.

What'd you think of the XZ Premium? I returned mine in a day...it's not a good phone

I thought it was an above average phone and it performed like a beast. Built quality is better than previous Xperia, ..the z5 premium was garbage. The feel was perfect and the 4k was pleasant.

My phone preference is slightly different from most . I tend to get phone that has a unique feature that peak my interest. I never stan a particular company. I mostly keep a phone for a few months.

I also don't trust reviews, I just get the phone and make my on conclusion.

Some of my unpopular opinion:

4k screen on a phone is amazing..4k 60fps HDR is crazy.

120hz is a game changer

I don't see anything wrong with LCD

I don't mind bezels, I would never get a phone with a notch.

Stock android is soo over hyped.

I don't like side curve screen. That's why I haven't been too crazy for Samsung phones even though I think they're great.

I'm currently using an XZ2 premium and I want test out the camera...so I'm getting a p20 pro to compare it to.

If someone could help me out with a question, what's the deal with having apps on the SD card on Android? Does every device with Android One allow it or is it on a case by case basis? Does Oreo not allow this at all? I find a lot of conflicting information tbh. I was under the impression you could do it with any Android One, but now I'm looking at Nokia 6.1 for my gf and it seems I can't? Android is so fucking confusing,

Why do you want to put apps on an SD card? I get movies and music but why apps. Just get a phone with a normal amount of storage.
