People not wanting Smash Bros in General Direct apparently don't understand how marketing works. It's one of their biggest game for this year and asking them to not market the game sounds incredibly petty or stupid.
I'm not interested in their marketing, this take us too many minutes for something that could be used for more announcements.
We're not asking to not market the game, we just want something more than just one game.

Joe. What do you think about that 4chan leak that predicted a presentation in September 6th and there would be a Let's Go Trailer with new motion control supermoves? Sounds too real to me, so I wonder if they'll just show the same trailer again or have something new like the rumored whale.
I don't think you understand how they decide to include stuff in the Direct.
Including Smash doesn't automatically mean it took the place of some other game.
Announcement in seven minutes, for Thursday. Book it.

You're right, of course: if they did less smash then they would have a shorter direct. However, that's not quite what (most) people are hoping: they are hoping that Nintendo is able to fill 35 minutes with announcement without having a significant chunk of that be Smash. i.e., they hope is that there are so many announcements that they have to do 35 minutes despite keeping Smash to a minimum. I hope you agree with me that it's not quite the same as hoping for a shorter direct.
I'd buy it.

I actually never played or cared about FFXIII but I always assumed Lightning was a boy based on the gif I saw posted on the internet.

September 6th was a logical timing based on the modal average day of a Direct, with the knowledge that Pokénchi was to reveal things.

Oh god, it's FF XIII time in here ... i'd rather have a FF 1 "remake" in the vein of the XV Pocket Edition than anything XIII again. Oh and Lightning sucks, especially when you have with Fang a much cooler girl in the game. It's the Vaan and Basch/Balthier from XII situation again, but with heroines this time.
