I was thinking about creating a thread like this yesterday.

Take Starwars away from EA, other companies would be able to manage the universe much better, I have no idea why its exclusive to EA. Their botched games and disgusting attitude is harming the gaming side of SW.

What's your function exactly in EA?

And how is Origin Access Premier doing so far?

Global Manager of Community Engagement, I lead community for all our Star Wars HD products, Need for Speed, EA Originals and Remasters (Burnout Paradise). I focus solely on players and in particular what you could class 'core' community, i.e. I don't do social, it's more dev related really.

Access as a whole has been good and I think Origin Premier is just a natural evolution in that front. Interesting to see where it goes next.

I hope they adopt the marvel games approach once the license runs out.

Just approach different developers and offer then the star wars universe

But hope EA can nail the games they already have in the pipeline

Respawn have a great track record, it's in good hands.

Amy Henning has a great track record too. I do love Titanfall 2 but you have to understand why people wouldn't be quick to have faith in all of this. Especially with EA after Visceral got shut down.

Edit: I see you do understand our concerns.

We can only hope that Disney regret handing over the license exclusively to EA, and that it won`t happen once it expires.

Star Wars is just a digital theme park nowadays. We'll get shallow amusement rides from the license but it's best to forget about titles with actual gameplay such as x-wing, kotor or Jedi knights.

I wish the license wasn't given exclusively for mainstream/console games. It's a gigantic fiction with one of entertainment's biggest fanbases; it feels strange to charge a single company to create products for it (especially in the context of that company having a stable of its own, unrelated projects it works on).

Easier to manage, cheaper to produce, other reasons too probably.
They also already had a relationship with them because of Old Republic.

No, Disney fucked up by closing LucasArts.
If they got shut down back in 2005, I'd agree, but LucasArt's only Star Wars games last gen were TFU 1 and 2 and Kinect Star Wars. They shut down all of their games with potential (BF3, Maul game, new Rogue Squadron, etc). 1313 was in constant flux and was almost guaranteed to be a Watch Dogs level disappointment. Their closure was not a shock for me; that was an extremely poorly run company in its final years.

A few years ago I would have loved most new star wars products. Now - with the switch to Disney - the whole universe has lost a lot of appeal for me. Cheap mobile games, microtransactions, multiplayer focus and with SW 7 & 8 the most disappointing movies I have ever seen... My love for star wars has never been that low. Disney and EA have been the worst combination for such a great and rich universe.

I give blame percentage about 60% EA and 40% Disney. EA, because EA and Disney for axing all the Expanded Universe, which is what a good portion of some of the best Star Wars games ever made were - that means no adventures of Kyle Katarn (the best Mission Impossible: Rogue One story) and Jan Orrs and Jedi Friends™, no continued adventures of Maarek Stele in the Imperial Remnant, no continued adventures of Keyan Farlander (the Y-Wing pilot that survived the Battle of Yavin), nothing for Dash Rendar and Leebo who faked their deaths, no adventures of Wedge Antilles and Luke Skywalker's Rogue Squadron (that could follow the books), etc.

I fully agree.

I remember when Bobby Kotick from Activision said years ago, before Lucas sold to Disney, that for 3rd party publishers working on licensed Star Wars ip is very expensive and uncertain.License is ,of course, very very expensive,if thing flops Lucas doesn't make any loss but if it becomes very profitable-most of the profits goes to Lucas as license fee.

Yeah, that sounds so not worth it.

I understand the appeal of the IP, but of all the possible licensed properties, Star Wars is also one of the worst when it comes to narrative restrictions when licensing the property. It's understandable why, but it's also not really conducive to a great narrative-driven game experience when the people actually making the game don't have the freedom to craft the narrative.

Exactly!
No wonder people prefer to work on ip they actually own and not license stuff from somebody else.
