Blink twice if there is a multiplayer game in development that matches the lightsaber combat of Jedi Academy.

Could Disney cancel the contract with EA if they are pissed off enough with them?
Hope from after that point they just go "We want a rpg, who's the best publisher?" "We want a Star Wars racing game, who's the best?" and so on. I think that's the way to curate quality titles that give consumers confidence in buying these games, they'd sell anyway but positive reception always leads to more money.
If Disney wants AAA quality (and it seems like they do) you need an AAA studio that has 3-4 years to spare to make a game for you. Or a big publisher that's willing to not developp their own big IP's in favor of a Star Wars game. How many of these studios/publishers are around? Besides EA.
Ouch :/Just be patient. Implementing lootboxes and micro-transactions takes a lot of work.
Ubisoft, Avalanche, Square Enix could find studio too, Sony, Microsoft...
I would have played the shit out of this. Rebel Galaxy was amazing as well.Reminder that the team behind Rebel Galaxy pitched this to EA in 2016.

It's a real shame. It was a great gaming franchise before it all went down and to a single publisher. You always had some Star Wars game in basically every game library. I mean, there were (several) action games (Force Unleashed), tactical shooters (Republic Commando), the Jedi Knight games, RPGs (Kotor), strategy games (Battlegrounds, Empire at War), multiplayer games (Battlefront), Lego games (started the whole craze), racing games (Racer), space shooters (Rebel Strike etc.), you know: something for everyone...and now?
It's just such a shame. The need to push every game to the AAA-max in the eyes of whoever is in charge for that, be it publisher or license holder, starves a whole franchis to death with over the top budgets, long dev times and risk averse behaviour.
We've gone from masses of good to great AA to AAA games on mutliple platforms in mutliple genres to some mobile games and two (arguably controversial) entries/ reboots in of a multiplayer title. (Besides ToR, i'll give you that). You would even think that EA only cause of its size could handle much more, much diverse projects in this huge franchise, but here we are. Still think, if it should've gone to a single publisher, Ubi (of today) would handle it better.
I don't think they'd go for exclusives.
If we are talking only one game UBI or square probably could, but especially UBI doesn't seem too hot on liscenced games
So EA is going to jump onto the Multiplayer Pirate bandwagon? But with Space Pirates in the Star Wars Universe?
Sure didn't help with MvC:I.They're doing a lot, but quality AAA games take time. And that's mainly what Disney wants with licensed games from their biggest brands moving forward. High quality AAA games that get a ton of buzz, rather than tons of games of varying quality and budgets. That's why Spider-man is the only Marvel game we are seeing for a while now, and Avengers is going to be the next one. That's why Respawn is working on a Star Wars game but has nothing to show for it yet.
If they cancel now you wont see any Starwars game for atleast 4 years.. I am also not sure who would really do anything worth it either, Ubisoft? Activison?...Could Disney cancel the contract with EA if they are pissed off enough with them?

We're making stuff, see Jedi: Fallen Order. Action Adventure etc
Oh wow. Cleaned up with a few more frames of animation, a little more leniency with regards to aiming and dodging for modern tastes and platforms you can see. Music and SFX with higher quality samples. It'd be beautiful.
Get the programmers to transfer the logic to Unity, or some other middleware and let the artists have a field day. Similar to what they did Wonderboy and the Dragon's Trap.

Disney shouldn't have limited the Star Wars license to a single company. And especially not EA. What a huge disappointment so far.

There's an EA rep here?! Brave soul. We're making stuff, see Jedi: Fallen Order. Action Adventure etc
Right! I forgot companies are people too!Soon, Belgium will put EA into prison anyway. Then the license is free again. /s
This.
Proof is always in the pudding and actions always speak louder than words. I'm confident for the future, but do understand your concerns / points.
Nice try, I always wear my eye patches before coming here.
Is there any indication that they would be as interested in making a Star Wars game or are as invested in the world as they are for Cyberpunk?
Forget Star Wars, I'm hoping your avatar is a sign you've licensed Dredd from Rebellion and Criterion are going to give me the freeform Supersurf game I've always craved.
We ended up with a game that looks far cooler than that honestly so maybe we should be thankful.I would have loved to played that, but I guess that there weren't enough opportunities to monetize a game like that. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Disney fucked up by not making the license available to everyone.
Afraid it's not. I've used this for a while and not got around to switching it around. If someone out there wants to make a Dredd game, then I'd be totally up for it. With an accompanying Netflix series too.
As much as I love Star Wars (much less so now after the recent movies), i just can't really get excited over more Star Wars games.
Yes, the universe is rich, but i'm kinda bored of it.
Plus, in the entertainment media industries as a whole, as the scope and scale of budgetary investment in projects baloon, the studios creating them become more and more risk averse and thus tend more and more towards known, licensed properties.
In gaming, this is becoming more and more the case, whereas I'd prefer more and more creative freedom given to dev studios to explore new IP and new words and universes of their own making. E.g. as much as I loved the KOTOR games, i'm much happier with Bioware working on ME games or Anthem.
AAA developers should create and pursue their own creative visions, rather than be hamstrung by narrative limitations imposed on them by external license owners.
We as gamers shouldn't be wishing for CD Project Red to make a Star Wars game, for example, but should rather be excited for and actively supporting their works on their own projects that give them so much more creative freedom.
I'm firm in this belief.
Been here a while, and back in the old place too. How's it going?
Disney Infinity is still the most fun I've had with a Star Wars game released this generation.
