It still runs like it was early acces. Biggest problem it has and it doesn't look like they can fix it.

Are you talking xbox or PC here? Because for me, the PC does not run like early access at all.

When you see how big succes pubg is, this was to be expected. Pubg runs like 15-30 fps on Xbox and it is not great on PC either and it looks garbage. But it has everything else going for it.

So here comes COD, takes all the good stuff from pubg, good stuff from cod and makes it run smooth near 60 fps and same time looking better.

What the hell are you going on about?

Oh, I get it. This is the safe play by Treyarch/Activision, but it's also somewhat disappointing from a gaming enthusiast standpoint.

While on PC and in Asia especially there's a whole different market for PUBG with a lot of players who definitely won't jump ship, I do wonder how much of an impact will this have on the BR population. I mean, this could just be one of the most mechanically brilliant FPS games turned into BR, doing everything PUBG does but in a more accessible way while looking and performing better. It may not change Fortnite's fate too much (I don't see anyone but FPS purists jumping ship from there), but they could combine their own enormous playerbase with a big share of those from other BRs, plus a potential untapped area of people who like the concept of BR but didn't like Fortnite's cartoonish look and can't deal with PUBG's jank. Despite the lack of campaign, I'd be willing to bet this game will outsell the last two CODs quite easily.

What do you guys think of this games population levels on pc? Think it will do well?
This is what I was thinking. This might just be the first COD in a while to have a proper and lasting PC community, the last time a COD had that was COD4 (MW2 was when COD slowly begame to lose the PC crowd and gain the console crowd)

If the big streamers like Doc switch and if Blackout gets released as a standalone and then updated for the years to come then it can last a while.

The gunplay really feels amazing, but you expect that from Call of Duty, they have perfected that so it's not even in the same ballpark as Fortnite or PUBG.

The map though, jesus, it's so dull and boring to move around, the buildings are awful and have no character, I haven't explored much of the 'map' areas as I wanted to get a feel for the game, but I went to Raid and it was nice being around that map again, but all the other areas are pretty rubbish, and the map just feels so small too.

I mean, Raid was nice and all, but it still feels like some weird amateur knock off of the actual raid map, it's a little weird if I am honest.

This is my first br game. Is this what the fuss is all about? This is so not fun. Players have so much health you can empty an entire clip into someone and its not enough. You die and have to get in a new game from scratch. Which i knew but it is ridiculous how long it takes to get into an engagement once you get put into a match. I am so out of the loop on what kids like nowadays. Back on my day, which was like two years ago, people didn't like dying in battlefield when running to the flag. Now everyone is fine running for 15 mins, killing two guys and dying over and over again. Camping is back. No one pushes. This is like going back in time.

I can agree with this too, players do seem to have a lot of health as well, and if you have 200 health, you can feel like a tank and engagements seem to run for ages, and they feel typically CoD like (which isn't out of the ordinary considering it's CoD after all) but the minute to minute battles feel like a CoD match, and not a BR match, if that makes sense.

I'm a little confused by how I actually feel about this game at the minute, maybe I need more time with it.

Nailed it. I'm 38 and feel the same way. What's so fun in running on a huge map like an idiot for a few minutes and die killed by someone hidden in a house or some bushes. Wtf? I really really don't get it.

Yeah pubg has its playerbase in Asia, but I has been losing players for a long time now and Blackout is going to make it even worse.

Yeah I am getting it on pc for the first time in forever and I hope I won't be too alone. I remember how dead the other cods got on pc.

The fun is in trying to avoid that from happening and trying to win. Due to the way these BR games work no one can camp indefinitely or else they'll just die due to the circle. The trick is in managing and planning your movement while keeping the circle in mind.

And I personally disagree with the notion that "I'm old and this is something new kids like". Single life game mode isn't a thing that only new kids like, we've had single life game modes that revolves around patience, slow movement and basically doing absolutely nothing for minutes once you die....since like the late 90s. I'm in my late 20s and I play with plenty of people my age as well as people in their 30s and we all particularly enjoy games that are mostly just down time with sporadic actions because it makes the downtime quite tense and I really like that. As someone put it earlier on this page, the time I'm spending doing nothing...is time I'm spending winning.

This is not limited to BR, but I suppose the idea is it builds tension and you're forced to play tactically, move slowly and scout out areas. To do this requires Recon drones etc, which are scattered few and far between.
They've raised the TTK to counter this so you have a fighting chance at a headshot if someone flanks you, but something about it just isn't quite satisfying for me. There's a missing ingredient.

I wonder how a BR would work with Siege style cameras, drones and spotting.

I really enjoyed playing this last night but there are a few changes I would like to see.

I think the ttk is a little high.
The speed of the circles towards the end can be a little low though they are good at the start of the game.
I personally would like to auto pick up ammo, there is a lot of lifting up to do in the game, especially with having to hold square rather than just press it.

Yep this is the biggest nitpick for me, either auto pick up or just tap square to pick up would be much better

Levelling and progression does not need to be unbalanced.

Also hate to break it to you, but in most fps games, you engage someone with 50 hours more experience than you, they will win that 1-on-1 due to the advantage of knowledge and experience.

That might be true if its 1h vs 51h but even then its many times not true.
If we talk about like 200h vs 250h then:

Any more good footage out there? Played a few matches on my friends Pro and it certainly feels like a slower paced and empty CoD. Spent more time just wandering around, seeing what was out there and marvelling at how bland everything was...and then get shot haha. The early stages are brutal if you have basic weapons and no armour but progressively you get some solid gear. I do think the healing mechanic is busted. Way too fast, way too abundant and overhealing to 200 is dumb.

Off topic-ish, but can anyone recommend a decent small mic ( less than £10 ) that I can clip on to my headphone wire ?

Something like in this image, but not so dog shit in qaulity...

Played most of the day yesterday. Great fun. Having to slow down and play a way more methodic game that im used to in COD. it was exhilarating.

I always always hunt for;

Maddox RFB assault rifle
Koshka sniper rifle
Sensor darts
Cluster Grenades

I feel like a badass. Started out getting no kills and being killed myself early in the game. Now I am usually top 10 and my best was #2 (still salty).

I was already on board due to how excellent MP was and Zombies, but this seals it for me.

This is definitely what I am looking for. Not at that price though.

Don't really want to pay more than £10 since it is just a microphone.
For that price you won't find anything that isn't dog shit in quality.
But modmic is pretty much the best mic that I've used till date.

Anyone know how the PC closed beta will work? I redeemed my CoD.com code yesterday, and just now linked my Battle.net account to my CoD account because I forgot I hadn't already done that. Will it give me a key to redeem on Bnet, or will the client just automatically become available when it's ready?
Does anyone have an answer to this?

This is a good summary.

I'd also like to add that looting on PUBG feels alot more rewarding than this, it's hard to explain but this just doesn't feel exciting when you come across loot.

Also the areas aren't built up as much, you need higher density areas.

I really like the way the game feels mechanically but the other areas which make PUBG appealing to me, they aren't in blackout.

I completely agree with you about rewarding loot. Even after playing pubg for a year if my squad or I find rare loot or an attachment of some soft we still get excited about it. Suppressors, am with compensator, 6-8x sxope, vector with extended mag, ect. I think it has a ton to do with the character of the weapons and they feel the same despite what gun you pick up

There is same kind of mic for 25$ too but its not as good: https://www.massdrop.com/buy/massdrop-mini-mic
But yeah you kinda have to pick either dogshit and cheap or pricier and good.

Took a punt and got this little thing form ebay for £12

I won my first game this morning and stop myself from yelling 'fuck yeah!' because my wife and daughter were sleeping.

Great game, having a lot of fun and I'll definitely be purchasing (even though I'm not massive on the other MP stuff)

I don't have the beta but I saw the trailer and was wondering how the monkey bombs work?
Do zombies just swarm out of no where?

The games engine is very stable / versatile with the amount of work they have done with it. It's impressive to see this running at the standard 60fps for CoD titles.

Exactly. The stakes in a battle royale game make the winning a complete different feel. The last circle gives so much tension .... It is satisfying like few other games. (good souls boss for example)

Unfortunately not. Monkeys are fo zombie areas only i guess. Zombies spawn at certain points on the map, where a box with zombie weapons appears.
You can see the box from a distance as in zombie mode.

I think this is going to be the game where a lot people find that the BR genre isn't for them (if they even give it enough of a chance).

Well said. I've been gaming since the 80's and honestly, BR wins are the most satisfying victory I have.

The odds are never in your favor and screw ups can be permanent.

I guess the monkeys are mostly to help you loot the mystery boxes.

Can they even be used offensively like in the trailer? Doesn't seem to make sense since the zombies will just swarm the bomb and explode.

This is the best battle royale game I've played by far. Inventory management issues aside (likely won't be an issue on PC though) this could be a real winner.

Jeeze really? I mean it's only a beta man but maybe BR isisnt for you ?
Pretty much coming to that conclusion, yeah. I never rage from games anymore unless it's because I died in BR.

In Fortnite, I get picked off by rockets or shotguns in two hits and wind up closing the game and not returning for a week at a time. In PUBG, vehicles constantly splatter me or I'm sniped from a distance. H1Z1 matches always end with me putting clips of ammo into someone only for them to shoot me twice and melt me.

Here we are now with this and it feels like the same damn song and dance. I spend 20 minutes narrowly avoiding death, wandering around barren fields and empty buildings while collecting an endless supply of the biggest, baddest weapons, wind up in the top 10 and then suddenly my weapons turn into Nerf blasters and everyone else seems to be wearing vibranium armor and carrying laser death rays that turn me into a pile of blood and bones like Mecha-Hitler in Wolfenstein 3D. Only difference there being that instead of letting out a pained "auf wiedersehen" I just wind up having to navigate clunky menus to queue up and spend another 20 minutes doing the same shit as last time only to get the same result. Maybe that Far Cry "definition of insanity" thing was right...

I've said this in a lengthier post earlier in this thread. I only have fun playing BR when I'm playing with friends. It can be quite miserable alone if you're not really good at it

Battlefield also is squad only. I play solo and duels in BR games. Everything I have heard about Battlefield this year makes it sound like a disaster.

Personally, it has the best gunplay and squad play of any game out there currently. The beta, despite bugs and issues, was really damn fun. There are plenty of Solo BR games out there, so maybe for a change, lets do a squad focused one instead of just doing the same old thing.
