Data from SteamSpy indicates that after one week of being on sale, DQ11 has managed at most 100,000 units of sales (the full range given is 50,000-100,000).

iefN7w3.png

I didn't expect this to do Monster Hunter World numbers or anything, but I don't know, at most 100,000 owners (and the true number is assuredly lower) after a week on sale strikes me as low, especially given that even "niche" Japanese games that are at the same level as DQ11 in the west, such as DanganRonpa, Yakuza 0, and Valkyria Chronicles have all managed to do so well on the platform (and since DQ11 is a classic RPG of the style that ordinarily you would think would do well on PC).

It fucking blows because this is an amazing game, and deserves to sell more. Please buy this, PC owners. And I hope PS4 owners have bought this in spades, too.

That's actually quite solid for the first Steam DQ RPG.....the DQH games completely flopped on Steam.

XI should sell well enough over the next months between Steam and PS4

Oh, I thought that sounded pretty good. It's not really a PC series or super popular in the west or anything, right?

actually i think thats a pretty fucking solid number, considering ffxv only topped 500k and 13*2 and lightining returns only have 300k after years. 110k is pretty good if you ask me for a series that pc players havent even known, like me. i am absolutely loving the game.

also, ni no kuni has 126,000 only. which is a shame as well. so id say its pretty decent number,

I'll purchase it as soon as there's an orchestral music mod. The music is too important for me to compromise on this.

I fucking blame Square for this, where the fuck was the fucking marketing for this game

Even Octopath got more love out here marketing wise. Kinda crazy. Marketing will probably start to kick in once we get more information on the Switch version. And even then, it'll most likely be Nintendo promoting it more than SQUARE.

Octopath was promoted wholesale by Nintendo. DQ11 is probably what its fate would have been had Square been left to its own devices with marketing and publishing it.

Not terrible, but not great either.

When you do the bare minimum amount of marketing for your game, you can't expect much more than that.

I will buy it when it releases on Switch. This was a very hard decision to make because the game seems to be incredible and waiting so long to play it will not be easy. I just hope it doesn't release in the first few months of next year.

Valkyria Chronicles, Yakuza 0 and Danganronpa (to the best of my knowledge) did not launch at $60.
The PC market is very price concious and this game had no shot in hell of doing great PC sales at that price. We'll see if things pick up when it gets cheaper

Square fucked the timing on this game to be honest. Releasing the same month as Spiderman and Tomb Raider was a mistake. The summer might have been better before the gaming typhoon of this month and next month.

The cheapest I saw it before release was $45 on GMG so that's more or less full price (after factoring out 30%) sales. Not bad for a really niche game.

I'm personally waiting for a sale and for the release schedule to calm down but I'll admit I went back and forth on buying it on GMG or CD keys for a while.

Thats literally what happened at least from what I saw. I didn't hear shit about Octopath except through Nintendo themselves. Wouldn't be surprised that the Switch port of DQ8 does extremely well compared to the other versions in the west if Nintendo does the same.

This version was important and necessary imo, but I dunno what you expected op. Japanese gamers dont play it on pc and western pc gamers cant play any earlier (dq8 style) versions so id imagine a lot of them are not into or even really aware of the series.

And the release date was terrible, everyone is getting spider man or tomb raider or d2 this week. but I do think dq will have good legs.

This isn't the game that will make Dragon Quest popular in the West, sadly.
As a big fan, I feel the pain, Square Enix just don't know what to do for it.

The thread title is kinda disingenuous.
How? It literally says "game sold X amount in x period" with the source, what about that is disingenuous?

I mean, games like DanganRonpa and Yakuza do well on PC, I expected this to as well. That said, someone did raise a good point about the pricing, I imagine it will hopefully pick up some sales once the price drops.

Even with marketing I don't know if there is anything you can do for a game this close to Marvel's Spider-man.

Plus, let's all touch our hearts and be honest- no way is the aesthetics of this game appealing to anyone other than people who knows about Dragon Quest already.

If they really want to rope in more players they would need to design tha game from the ground up with western/newcomer audience in mind ala MHW.

There is no Spider-Man on PC. And RPGs with anime styled aesthetics have done plenty fine before (Persona 5 being the big example).

Pretty sure this is doing much better than Danganronpa. Those games eventually did quite well on PC but it took a while (and 3 is still around the same numbers as DQ XI).

I've never played a DQ game (and don't know anyone IRL that's played one) but I think it looks amazing ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Because the title says it has sold 100k when it has instead sold somewhere between 50k-100k.

It'll benefit from sales. JRPG on Steam can have a really long life.
This is SE, so I wouldn't get my hopes up in that regard.

I haven't played a JRPG since I quit FFXII in disgust but for some reason (possibly positivity on the Bombcast) I have been thinking about getting this. The only reason I'm not is because I want to get it physical so I can trade it in when I'm done but I also want it on PC rather than PS4. So I'll just wait until a big discount I guess.

Isn't that pretty decent though?

It's not great, but not terrible. It's about in line with most JRPGs on PC, barring more action oriented ones like Nier and Souls games. FFXV, which was much heavier advertised (both in general and on PC) was around 250k in about the same amount of time.

I think its doing well, the player peak is higher than Yakuza, Danganronpa and Ni No Kuni 2.

It's not just anime aesthetics.

Persona 5 have the advantage of a very stylish and unique art direction on top of the Anime. Dragon Quest doesn't have anything like that to catch people's attention imo

Hell I would not be surprise if people think that DQ is some budget old school FF inspired game.
