With the exception of sales the same can be said about Rayman (who's been on far more platforms than Minecraft and also has Nintendo content), yet he's not playable either. How much of Minecraft's success is owed to it being on Nintendo? What necessitates it a playable character position in Smash Bros? A few trophies, a stage or an assist trophy is understandable. A playable character, not so much. Especially since Minecraft isn't a franchise known for character. Sakurai's already mentioned that standards for third party characters are much higher than first party ones.

How much of Final Fantasy 7's success is owed to being on Nintendo? Zero.
Snake has a history with Nintendo, but the MGS series is what's popular and what is exclusively used for Snake in Smash and none of that series success has anything to do with Nintendo, hell Snake's outfit is from a game that didn't even come to Nintendo.
Stop making up personal rules and making flimsy justifications for why you think characters don't deserve a spot, it should be clear at this point that all that matters is if they are a video game character and if Sakurai wants them. Minecraft has every right to have a playable rep, it just remains to be seen if Sakurai wants do do that.
What's the difference between base Goku and uhhhh... vanilla Goku?

Ah, that's neat attention to detail. I was scratching my head as to why they'd even bother having two normal Goku's, but looking at gameplay, they really put in the work (even if wasn't needed lol)

You have no idea how many Minecraft meme videos I will post here if that blocky fuckhead gets in.

Question - why do so many Minecraft videos involve toe fetishes? It's weird as hell.

I wonder if Peach's Castle will ever be remixed. It's such an iconic song and there are two Peach's Castle stages.

Not really made for fighting, but the potential to make a fighting song is there

Maybe it's the thing where you don't often see digits because you're looking at nearly featureless block people all day, so they gain a certain mystique.

Minecraft paves the way for Roblox in Smash

That in turn paves the way for Lil Pump and Kanye to get in Smash

Video games were a mistake

If we get even an ounce of Microsoft content I guarantee Banjo would immediately become the biggest character in hardcore circles bar-none. It would light a fire under their asses and Banjo would be plastered over every forum and fan mockup you can find.

And frankly, if I was a big banjo fan I would prefer Steve than nothing at all. At least that would mean MS has their foot in the door.
You know, I can swallow this when it comes to Midna and Skull Kid. But it's way harder when it comes to the minecraft avatar. It's true though. That would be my exact reaction. And so far, I have been pretty OK with not seeing Banjo and Kazooie. Just accepted they would be locked out for competitive reasons. I would be OK with the minecraft avatar if this is what it would entail.

Sorry about that. Fixed.

Wow!! This really made my eyes widen when I read this and searched online. It's actually true!!!!! Actually, no, not really. But it is true that some of the old site owners were scientologists and wanted to push Scientology on the website according to one of the founders. Yikes. I don't think it actually worked. And Chia is still innocent either way.

I did not realize that despite 2 peach castle stages neither stage used peach's castle as a base for the song
or, inf act, any distinctly Mario 64 music. Peach's Castle is a remix of the SMB standard ground theme. Princess Peach's Castle is a remix of the Ground theme with the Underground theme.
Seems like one of them should have gotten a remix of the main theme.

At least Rainbow Cruise has a 64 remix, I suppose, but still. I'd like it if the 64 Main Theme got a proper remix this go around....or at least the SMG2 remix?

Final Fantasy in general has a strong history with Nintendo, and Cloud was only included because they'd been getting requests for a Final Fantasy rep for years, not just Cloud. They settled with Cloud specifically because he's the most recognizable "face" of the franchise as a whole. Snake was only included because of Hideo Kojima's personal relationship with Sakurai and the fact that he'd been begging the guy for years - and given how he was the original third party character circumstances were a lot different back then. Now that Smash is a smorgasbord in terms of offerings, Sakurai isn't going to just let anyone in. Character inclusions like Snake are unlikely now, and kind of silly to hold against the current policies of character inclusions. Ignoring the context behind those inclusions makes it kind of silly for you to accuse me of constructing personal arguments and rules about what characters they choose to include given how aggressively pro-Minecraft you're coming across as.

I saw one video that had some minecraft character without toes having some minecraft characters with toes' feet shoved in his face. Shit's disturbing.
It's probably the same stuff that leads to Elsa impregnating Spider-Man or picking bugs off of Peppa Pig's toes, it gets kids watching it on autoplay due to algorithm nonsense.

There really is a strangely small amount of Mario 64 remixes

And by small amount, I mean there are two. Rainbow Cruise and Overworld.

A paltry amount for one of the most iconic games in the series and the origin for like half of Mario's moveset.

Both Sakurai and his musicians seem to place higher priority on the classic 2D games for some reason.

Despite having one of the most well known stages in Smash, 1/4 of Mario's specials since Brawl, and an entire character in Bowser Jr, Ultimate is the first time Mario Sunshine has gotten a remix

Insane

I mean, I love stuff like SMW Fortress Boss and this game's SMB3 Fortress Boss, but yeah, it's time the 3D games received some spotlight.

I'd love to see more 64/Galaxy stuff, personally.

I just remembered that in the midst of my borderline insomnia last night, one of my two hours sleep stints had another smash newcomer dream, it was a Namco combo containing Kuma and Gil.
Then in typical nonsense dream fashion there was a strange pink cat dressed like a flamboyant pirate that was apparently from The Tower of Druaga which is the point my unconscious mind revealed to all that I know jack shit about said series.

Steve isn't even in my top 10 and I've played Minecraft like twice in the past 5 years, I just think it's dumb to be upset at the idea of Steve or to try and come up with flimsy justifications as to why he shouldn't or can't be in when we all know all that matters is if Sakurai wants the character in and if he sees potential for a moveset. There is no actual rules or anything stopping Steve from being playable, so stop acting like there are.
Cloud being chosen just because he's the most recognizable sure sounds like there aren't crazy restrictions on third parties. Then we have Bayonetta whose history with Nintendo at the time of her introduction into Smash was a single release that was half funded by Nintendo.
"aggressively pro-Minecraft" is also one of the funniest things I've ever read.

I know Sakurai said in his column that they wanted the new tracks to be balls-to-the-wall cuz of Anticlimactic Roost (intentional dramatization aside), but literally just rip this version of the song imo. I'm a-okay with the more subdued songs playing sometimes too, and the instrumentation on this version is lovely.

Also hey everyone I just wanted you to know that I had a Smash dream that confirmed both Banjo-Kazooie as well as Zekrom / Reshiram as shrunken down versions of themselves and they were both kinda Echoes of each other? Like they didn't say which one came first so they just shared vague aspects of their moves and were each called an Echo of the other.

I can't think of Steve as a character without imagining some little kid named Steve going "THEY PUT ME IN SMASH!?"

Like surely there's at least one young Steven out there who loves Minecraft and would assume the character was Nintendo acknowledging how great they are at the game.

Bayonetta was a ballot pick. One among "realizable" characters. I find it kinda funny how people rail against the notion of Sakurai not following a set of self-imposed rules. He's already detailed a good deal of times in the past how he determines a character to be playable. If he didn't have rules in the first place for himself, the roster would be far more scattershot than it is.

And I never claimed to be upset about anything, so I mean, you're still pretty much aggressively shoving words down my throat here. Whether that irony is lost on you when you so supposedly think of it as the "funniest thing you've ever read", well, whatever helps you sleep at night I guess.

The odds of Mario getting 2 new stages with such a small new stage count is basically 0.

We'll have yet another Smash game with no Bowser's castle, or even a stage for Bowser to call home. Not even an Airship.

It's probably why we haven't really gotten many Bowser remixes. They just get stuck on Luigi's Mansion where they don't really fit.

I already explained my reasonings why I think Minecraft contents could be in Smash Bros and that was from one of first few threads and I'm not sure if I should dig through and bring it back.

Should I?

Naw.
