Will be pretty easy for me. Dead Cells has it on lock with only Forza Horizon 4 being strong contention. Happy to oblige any surprises.

I think this will be the first year I'll have to be very specific when I talk about my GoTY. Best game: God of War. Most fun game: Spider-Man. Favorite game: Celeste

This year is definitely hard to pick for me at least. I'm torn between God of War, Spider-Man and Detroit: Become Human. Connor & Hank might take the lead so far.

For me it will most likely be God of War, but I've yet to play RDR2.
I guess I'll find out after I play and see if the gameplay is the same as every open world R* game which is pretty mediocre, or they did things differently.

As hard as every year. Every year has it's masterpiece. I think that for a lot of people it will be God of War without hesitation, and RDR2 for others. Others will choose Spider-Man, Smash Bros, Celeste, Forza... I mean, yeah, great devs deliver great games, as always.
Just you wait for next year with DMC V, RE2, Sekiro, and even maybe TLoU2, Death Stranding, MP4 and Bayo 3 lol

No way DS is 2019, but it would be pretty easy for me to guess the GOTY for next year if TLoU2 comes out by then.

No, it's just a toss up between God of War and Red Dead.

My choice will be Spyro though.

Still a lot I haven't played this year, but I imagine for myself, it'll be between Celeste (when I eventually play it), 428 (which is a decade old (and when I eventually play it)), DQXI (which came out last year (and, again, when I eventually play it)), and Smash. Maybe AssCreed: Odyssey. My hopes are too high for it. Judge Eyes could also be the best game from 2018 even though I won't be playing it 'til it get a PC port (2019, possibly later).
EDIT: If RDR2 ends up being the best game I play this year, either this is a weak year, or RDR2 ends up being much better than I'm expecting.
EDIT2: Totally forgot about Guacamelee 2 and Yakuza Kiwami 2. Guess those are possible, though I can't see myself playing them for a while.

I'm personally having a tough time deciding between GOW and Spiderman.
I know GOW will probably be the better game, but spiderman is so fun.

If I had to pick on what game I've played the most this year, MHW takes it hands down. In terms of overall presentation, I'm split between it and GoW. Mind you that Spiderman will get an honorable mention, but really hard to say what game I'd say was the best one.

That and Octopath was pretty good too.

It'll be the hardest in a while because everything that's been released has been kinda bwaaauh so far. There really hasn't been anything that pumped me up this entire year, barring maybe Celeste. Of the big AAA games released, Spiderman would be the one I'd throw my weight behind atm, though Tomb Raider and Hitman might come through for me. Regardless, nothing that has come out this year would have even broken my top 15 last year, let alone GotY. 2018 has fuckin blown on the gaming front.

Knowing how much I play Smash with my friends, though, that'll probably come out on top just by virtue of being the ultimate party series, for now and forever.

Yeah, it's going to be pretty hard for me to choose between GoW and Hollow Knight. Then there are the games that haven't released yet, like RDR2 and Smash. I have also recently played with the thought of giving my GotY vote to Street Fighter 5. With the release of Arcade Edition it should be eligible. The last two years were amazing when it comes to games and the next one looks to be just as good.

I don't think it's hard for most people to pick, because most people seem to make their picks before the game they vote for has even released.

Too often a game is 'called' as GOTY before its launch.
That predicts badly as often it predicts well.

Counting chickens, you might say...

It's going to be god of war for me. I do love Spiderman, and divinity 2 and I also loved Detroit too. But God of war was a huge shake up for the franchise and it absolutely nailed it!

Eh this is definitely an off year for me. I can't think of anything from 2018 that I played that screams out "GOTY" to me.

Last year was so much harder it's not even funny. I played like 3 games that could probaly make it pretty high in my Top 20 games of all time.

2017 is better for me. Prey, NieR Automata and Persona 5 are all so amazing, they'd have probably all had a very fair shot at being my GOTY in any other year. (As it stands, Automata is probably my 2017 GOTY).

This year, since I probably won't get to play 428: Shibuya Scramble anytime soon, my GOTY will likely be Yakuza 0.

Not really.
It's only between GOW and RDR2 (maybe).
Dead Cells & Spider-Man are not even close to any GOTY.

Nope, that was last year. Having to pick between Nier, Nioh, Persona 5, Yakuza, Breath of the Wild, Mario Odyssey, Resident Evil 7, and Sonic Mania? What a cruel, but amazing year.

Hard to say with a game as huge as RDR2 around the corner. The gameplay video has me convinced, but hard to say how the wind will blow with all the media outlets. GoW seems to be the critical darling of the year at the moment.

I swear to God era.. if y'all vote Hollow knight for goty..

It was good and that's about it.
2017 game so why would it even be eligible?

Yeah i think it is. GoW, spiderman, RDR2, MHW, DQ are the biggest for me. Damn it has been a good year. Going to be a difficult choice

Right now it's GoW for me, hands down. With Red Dead coming soon, that may change. Octopath is also up there but just missing that extra polish to make it a GotY contender.
