Updated the GT-R livery with a proper chrome roof. Looks much nicer now.

I also shared it on Twitter and got a reply from Chiyo-san himself (the Nismo driver in that Bathurst race)! My day has been made

I love Maggiore with Gr.4 cars, but with Gr.3 it unsettles cars so easily if you make a slight mistake. It is a nerve-wracking track to drive with Gr.3. Really to be honest, I just don't like most of the Gr.3 cars, at least not with the DS4 trigger. It's so easy to just blip the trigger a bit too hard and have the car start to come undone.

I refuse to believe any with a DS4 is driving GR.3 without TC. Its too sensitive.

Choose a car that has a force induction engine and upshift early if you feel/hear the traction starting to slip away. Upshifting early will usually kill the slide right away, so simply make sure the car is pointed in the direction you want it to go in, upshift early, mash on the throttle. The torque will pull you through and you'll be able to accelerate quicker out of corners than if you're having to control slides all the time.

This is great advice.

I did the manufacturers race at Maggiore 1st and had a similar scenario to Eyeball - I had a nice clear track to do my qualifying but broke my rule about doing a nice easy banker lap first, stuck it in the barriers and then had to qualify driving in a pack 13th when I should have managed 6th or so (All cars ranked B/A or B/B) :-
Lap 1 - Go from 13th to 9th
Lap 2 - Get up to 6th then bin it big style, drop to last and finish the lap in 19th
Lap 3 - Go from 19th to 18th
Lap 4 - Catch 17th
Lap 5 - Go from 18th to 17th
Lap 6 - Pass 2 cars on the 2nd turn but accidentally spin a Citroen, get hit by a very aggressive frenchman.Get held up by the same guy as he hits a car ahead and then get taken out by crashing cars on the fast left hander. Finish lap in 15th
Lap 7 - Go from 15th to 14th
Lap 8 - Gifted 13th by a Swiss guy, catch and pass 2 scrapping beetles only for them to rematerialise just before the line. Notice 4 cars parked by the side of the road.
Lap 9 - Pass 1 beetle and narrowly avoid the other going into turn 1. Pass the other beetle at the hairpin. Get pushed wide by the first beetle going into the last corner and cross the line in 2nd?! Wtf?
Lap 10 -
Get barged about by the beetles and drop to 4th which slowly turns into 12th over the course of the lap.
It's a long vid but as you can see there's plenty going on! I got demoted in SR again after this race but can genuinely only see 3 occasions where I was at fault - my spin from 6th, hitting the Citroen and hitting one of the beetles when it appeared in front of me. I got rear ended and side swiped multiple times tho :-(

After that I did the karts in the Nations and came across another glitch - is anyone else getting these kind of issues? This time after qualifying 2nd I started in 3rd with the 1st place nowhere to be seen... Which was because for some reason it'd given the person in last place the lead so we spent the first 5 laps catching them. I won the race but felt bad after for the accidental collision that took the guy I was competing with out :-(

What was the cause of you suddenly getting bumped down to 12th at the end of the Maggiore race? Is that because of penalties or something? I'm surprised at your
racing level that there were such jackasses in your race. Nice job on the racing though. I need to work on those turns before the final straight, I'm always over-cautious there. Those Beetles seem like maybe they need to be toned down a bit, they seem like Gr.3 go-karts.

I've never seen something like that kart glitch, but it makes me wonder if it was an exploit...maybe the same kind of exploit that has people recording 5 second lap times on the circuit challenges.

Also watching your race, I realized that the front cam has an advantage with the shadows denoting people around you. You don't get that in cockpit view so it's hard to know where people are, especially because the radar is off to the side.

ZzzzzzZzzzZzz...
I feel comforted that I'm surrounded by people that actually consider terms like "banker lap" as part of their strategy. Aah. Semi-related, but I'm always moderately frustrated that people in the B DR range seem entirely unable to gap themselves for flying laps. There's going to be time for 2 flyers regardless so there's no need to race the outlap. Also, if the laps are <2min, you can reset your track position entirely by going to the pause menu and returning to the pits and then doing a new outlap. It's effectively an exploit that breaks the relative realism of the qualifying session and should probably be removed.

So it was network issues causing the positions to get screwed up - you can see this starting when I pass the 2 beetles (they both go straight on for a short period of time then reappear in front of me) and the four cars parked to the right of the start finish straight. As for the jackasses it very much seems to depend on the luck of the draw - I got good clean racing from many of the guys on there, just that guy in the Aston and those 2 in the Beetles spoilt things. And again if I'd qualified better I wouldn't be tangling with those guys.

The karting glitch I have no idea - I can't really see it as being a deliberate thing as the person didn't seem that driven to stay in front. To me I think it's a PD problem which is part of the reason why I posted it, so these things get spotted and fixed.

I used to do the restart thing in Driveclub Time Trial mode but never tried it in this, I usually try to get out first and if I end up in a pack I find somewhere out of the way for people to pass. The risk is always that someone will have a crash in front of you when you do go for a hot lap and cause a jam. I usually do much better in this live qualifying compared to the standard sport mode, so much so I really struggle going back to sport.

Got my first victory in GTS today. It was basically my first race in the game. I had done another a few weeks back (and won) but the game disconnected in the end and it didn't count. Now that I'm done with "Campaign" the only thing to do is online races. I enjoy online races very much but I don't wanna race if I don't have time to practice and get consistent times. I'll try to race more from now on.

Why is it always bloody Beetle drivers that do this??

On the second video if you watch when I pass him the second time he seems to suddenly slow down a bit but his brake lights don't come on - I wonder if he just gave the handbrake a tap to make me go into the back of him. Anyway feeling pretty hacked off really, only got the chance to do one race tonight as there's no 10pm race any more and all the places I lose are after being rear ended into a barrier.

The championship looks less popular this season, don't know if it's ditching the 10pm race or fatigue from 3 weeks on the trot but my friends list table isn't worth posting at the moment there's so few people taking part.

I've not taken part this week. I liked the structure of the events and enjoyed it when I had something to prepare for then see how well could do. But when they started up again the day after the first event season finished with nothing to acknowledge the event it just felt a bit pointless and nothing more than an extra daily race you could only do once. I was hoping it would feel more like one-off events to be honest and I wasn't that big a fan of all the daily races switching to only being up for a day.

Before I saw the whole structure I was hoping there would be multiple types of events in slightly different formats like so:

A monthly tournament: Basically the same as this test season but takes place during a set week each month,
A long-term tournament: All the basic track layouts, the race is announced on the Monday and people can do live practice until the weekend where they can choose a time on the Friday, Saturday or Sunday to compete.
Special events: Announced well in advanced but with unique features such as endurance with full tyre wear and damage to bring together a potentially smaller part of the player base.

I was also hoping that the events would feel more focused, the nations cup and manufacturer cup could really use the same data and don't feel distinct enough. But the worst thing is a lack of acknowledgment killed it for me, I think it would have been great to highlight who won and give rewards for taking part and potentially other statistics like cleanest racers, most overtakes, most pole positions and other things. The lack of explaining anything about the point system was also annoying, as playing the points game is usually a big part of sports that use them especially if you're not good enough to be at the top. This is where reward brackets could also have come into play, the best would be those that finish in the top ten, then from there broken down into smaller reward brackets based on points gained.

I wish cars with time penalties would become ghosts until they cleared the penalty. This guy on 2nd place was blocking aggressively every turn on the speedway and at the end of the race he had +11s penalty...

Have there been any updates on GTS sales? It's seeing massive discounts in my country (Australia) this week from AUD$99.95 ---> AUD$29.

All we know is that it got off to a strong start but don't know anything beyond that.

I suspect second month sales have been below unit targets (or look unlikely to reach whatever targets they have set before the end of the year) so they have put it on sale everywhere to be able to have a chance to at least hit revenue targets.

Either that or there are player retention issues so they need to have a way to keep bringing new players in which is critical for a game with an online focus like this. Basically the more players that own the game the more chance people will return when they add more content.

i'm fairly certain this is the case. a few pages back i posted about getting a trophy for racing for more than 24 hours. that's not really all that much considering i bought it on launch day.

the trophy showed up as "very rare."

we're the last men and women still playing gt.

I just looked and it says "very rare" but 9.7% of all players have now acquired that trophy.

That's not actually too bad a ratio IMO considering how long the game has been out.

The vast majority of people who drive the beetle don't know how to fucking drive.

It's also true on the roads in real life as well.

If i had no ties DHC i'd be over it 24/7...

Yep, 2 races a night doesn't sound too bad but when you have warmup and qualifying and a 20-25 minute race then the best part of an hour is gone for each one. I like to have the 15 minutes registration to practice too, my best results have always come when I've had the time to really get confident in how hard I can push during a race (and not been taken out!)... Which all means that it's quite a time commitment 6 nights a week when I have a family too. I would've appreciated a break between seasons.

I've not taken part this week. I liked the structure of the events and enjoyed it when I had something to prepare for then see how well could do. Yep I agree with you on all these points - I thought the nations cup would've been more different to the manufacturers and longer term events sound like a great idea. The points system seems really messed up at the moment as there's fewer people playing (or maybe I'm just unlucky) but I'm getting races where there are only a handful of people the same rank as me so even if I win I don't score much. I saw a notification thing saying who first, second and third were in the nations and manufacturers competitions and that a full event summary would be in the live review(?) section of the sport tab - when I looked in there they all seemed to be events run in 2016... So yeah, these are just test seasons at the moment so I hope they do learn how to improve things and implement some changes for the future.

SR booster cards in lootboxes.

LOL

I'm glad I'm not the only one that gets worried when they see a beetle behind them.

Yup! I think part of it is that the Beetle handles well so is quick in the corners but not actually faster on a straight than most other cars. I could keep slipstreaming past the Beetles if I got a good launch out of the corner in my Nismo, whilst they often could only pull alongside and stay there - that means they're more likely to try a dive up the inside on the brakes however as thats when they're all over you. But also as GHG says, when a car is known to be the quickest then people will gravitate towards it even if they aren't that great at driving.

I was involved in my first road rage incident the other night with, of course, a Beetle driver. At nurb GT they tried an insanely dangerous overtake by cutting the corner that would have got them black flagged in real life, on the next corner I had the inside and nudged them as I was defending my line (of course they turned into me). They spent the next three laps intentionally ramming into the back of me on slow corners to try and spin me off. I just tried ignoring them but eventually they managed to make me spin off about as far off the track as you can get, took me like 30 seconds to get back on to the track.

My race had been fucked but the crash had taken me completely out of traffic so I just started hot-lapping. By the end of the race I was closing in on a pack of Beetles and figured one of them might be Mr. Angry. Imagine my surprise as I came round the final corner onto the straight to see a Beetle crawling along, it was the twat. Once they saw me they accelerated and finished infront of me, but they still had a 3 second penalty that put them behind me in the final standings. Fucking hilarious irony, he'd accrued such a massive penalty ramming me that he couldn't scrub it all off in time by practically stopping before the finishing line :D

It's pretty clear that the player pool in S SR rank isn't big enough. Just did the sport race at Suzuka and was matched with players all the way from D DR all the way up to S. I qualified in 10th and finished 9th beating the only other guy that was B DR. No chance of catching the A DR guys that were ahead. I finished 8 seconds off their pace in the end.

Holy shit they're adding a campaign mode next month!
https://blog.us.playstation.com/201...tes-add-new-cars-offline-play-gt-league-more/

Launching as part of our free December update, we'll be introducing a brand new single player mode called "GT League". Based on the old "GT mode" of previous titles, players can now look forward to racing through a series of cup competitions from beginner to pro levels, and and even partake in endurance races!

I'm happy like a kid with the campaign mode announcement. Also, 50 cars added until march is a pretty good number, if you ask me. Loved to see the RX-7 listed in the December update, too.

If they're going to abuse on rubber banding like they did with the last few mission races, then they can take the Campaign mode back.

Lmao my thoughts exactly.

I'll stick to sport mode where it actually feels fairer at high SR rankings compared to racing against AI where the "boost" setting is set to maximum.

However, it must be said that the AI in this game is pretty damn good if you set up a custom race with the rubberbanding turned off.

I'm excited for the changes, even if I'll probably end just tasting the gt mode, like always. It will feel more like home with it no doubt.
And looking forward to the RX-7, the R32 and the F40. I hope they'll do some Sport variation of these.

edit: and now I can browse the gallery from work. I'm screwed.

The RX-7 and the Skylines got me hyped! The GT mode is real nice too. Makes me wonder why they didn't have it at release. Surely more people would've bought the game then.
