So what's everyone planning to play to get into the haunting season less than a month away? My tentative list to play (but not necessarily complete):

Friday the 13th (NES)
Night Trap (Switch)
Dead Space (PS3)
Luigi's Mansion (3DS)
Detention (Switch)

I'm sure I'll add some as I come across something on a sale or remember I own something that fits the season.

- Call of Cthulhu (XBO)
- Get Even (XBO)

This time of the year it's like THE BEST.

Being that Little Nightmares was in this month's Humble Monthly, I'd like to tackle that game once October hits.

I also have Stories Untold, Yomawari: Night Alone, and Danganronpa V3 (not really horror but murder does happen so there's that) in the backlog for that month.

Ohhhh I totally forgot about Little Nightmares!

October always means replaying several Castlevania's for me. I recently bought Among the Sleep on PS4, so October seems a good excuse to play that. I'll probably just watch a bunch of Hammer Horror films though.

One of my favorite games ever - if I can't replay it in October, I'll be sure to rewatch it:

I sold my 3DS, but Luigi's Mansion is also super wonderful.

I usually play Castelvania 3 around this time every year but I might skip it given I'm going to be busy and unable to play many games at all come late October.

I only replay 1 game for Halloween and that is Famicom Detective Club 2: the Girl in Back.
Fantastic game that also shows a side of Nintendo that you don't see often, has a great fan translation too.

Halloween is not really a thing in my country/region

That said, maybe i'll finally beat Alien Isolation DLCs and White Night

year walk (ios, steam and wii u)
it's short game, but it's fantastic. made by a small swedish team based on swedish folklore, it's a very well made point and click horror game, with a very twisted story.
highly recommend it. if you get it on ios, you HAVE to download the free companion app too.

I've never played any of them, but always wanted to. I might try this one, thanks for the tip.

Every single year since I got the game, I've played through Costume Quest from start to finish on Halloween evening. Will very likely do the same this year. Such a great seasonal game.

Think I'll go for Detention this year since it's on sale right now. Though I do find that I like the idea of horror games more often than I like actually playing them, so I'm not sure whether I'll actually be able to finish it.

Naughty Bear: Panic In Paradise (ps360) might not be very scary but it's a surprisingly fun slasher villain game.
It's basically the player as the Jason/Michael Myers type, stalking and performing all kinds of different kills on unsuspecting teddy bears. A very underrated and seldom talked about game, it's actually a little similar to Hitman.

Layers of Fear and the Inheritance DLC on Switch. I finished it on my MacBook and loved it, so I want to go through it again and then try the DLC.

Great call - Costume Quest is pitch perfect.

I wonder if it's 1X BC...

Been meaning to go back and finish Soma for a while now. Definitely playing Little Nightmares.
Just finished Layers of Fear and was mildly disappointed.

This is actually a great idea. I have both and have never played them.

I made a list of unwrapped games to pick from, but there's no way I will get to them all:
Alien Isolation (X1X)
Dead Rising 3 (X1X)
Monster Madness Battle for Suburbia (X360)
Resident Evil VII (X1X)
The Walking Dead: The Final Season (Steam)

would also like to revisit:
Bioshock (X360)
Dead Rising (X360)
Dead Space (X360)
Ghouls'n Ghosts (Arcade)
Until Dawn (PS4)
Zombies Ate My Neighbours (SNES)

I'm playing Limbo rn, which isn't exactly scary but fits the creepy mood. I want to play some of the Telltale Walking Dead games closer to October so I'm hoping they go on sale soon.

I like it!
It's got open levels where you can stalk around deciding how to take out the different teddy bears. Lots of context sensitive kills like carry a bear close to the water where you throw him to the sharks etc. It's a bit simple but still a fun time. Just don't go in expecting a super polished AAA experience. Definitely worth a shot!

Maybe skip the DLC. I liked Layers of Fear for what it was, so I figured the DLC would be fine, but I couldn't even finish it, thought it was straight up terrible and has tainted my opinion of the game in general.

I plan to replay the entire Resident Evil series in October and possibly play the 3 PS2 Fatal Frame games since I got them on the psn store long ago but never played the series.

I always play that spider boss from Luigi's Mansion (3DS) every Halloween... but hmm, looking for something a little more "spooky" for the rest of October. Is that Resident Evil switch combo a good value?

Wow! That bad? That's disappointing. Was it nothing like the main game?
Minor spoiler

you play from the perspective of the main character's daughter or something (it's been a year since I played) and there are multiple sections where you are playing as a toddler/child that are straight up frustrating, with really poor camera that gave me a headache, sluggish controls, and poor indication of what you should be doing. Add in more of the corny hamfisted story stuff, and the whole thing is just bad. I really didn't like it, so I looked up how much I had left to complete and I was nearing the end and still bailed on it.

I'll hopefully play through the following before RDR2 hits

Little Nightmares
Detention
Resident Evil 1 HD Remaster (started it like twice and never finished)

In addition to plenty of Dead by Daylight in between

I thought the DLC was horrendous as well for what is worth

Main game was a limited but fun haunted house ride. DLC was so bad it soured me on it.
Yep, this is how I felt as well. It takes ideas from Among the Sleep and basically executes them even worse, while at the same time cramming that uninspired derivative story down your throat. Yknow, the whole
the REAL horror was his alcoholism and neglecting his family! Get it?!

If slowly crawling around in the dark without a good indicator of what you should be doing, with no real payoff or reason to even keep going sounds good to you, the experience might be tolerable.

That sounds awful. Thank you for the heads up.

Anyone have horror recommendation for Switch?
Outlast 1/2 are both great. The first more so, but the second is fun too. Detention is a good side-scrolling adventure game, that reminded me a bit of Corpse Party without the embarrassing anime shit.

I'd also recommend Phantaruk. It's only $5 and takes from both Outlast and Dead Space. A good game for the price.

Serious Spooks:
Alien: Isolation
RE7
Dead Space 1-3 through XB1 BC
Amnesia Collection on XB1 if they release it in time
Maybe Outlast 1/2 if I can fit it.

Comedy Spooks:
Luigi's Mansion
Undead Nightmare
Borderlands 1 - The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned

I'm so pumped for Luigi's Mansion on 3DS! That game is perfect spookiness.

I remember playing this game on Wii U for a review. It's one of the few horror games I really liked, the atmosphere was unique (I still feel cold just by seeing that screen) and solving the very last puzzle - and i mean the VERY last - was somehow one of the creepiest things I saw in a videogame.

I'm currently playing as many of the Castlevania games as I can in honor of fall's arrival.

So far this month I've beaten SOTN, Rondo, and Dracula X. Now I'm working on Portrait of Ruin.

Hell, ultimately I even want to beat the LoS games but I'm sure as hell not looking forward to playing those again!

System Shock 2, and I'm going to try and squeeze in a replay of RE2 in preparation for the remake.

May also do Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs.

Dead by Daylight and I'll play Alien Isolation for the first time since I bought it last year.
