If IGN gave it a 9 does that mean it'll be a success?
Because of one review? Not likely. It's guaranteed to outperform the last two TR games. Will be massive.

8/10.
Best Tomb Rading since the PS1 apparently.
Methinks that will be the outlier. Reading it now. Not sure I'll agree with their opinion, but we'll see
Shadow of the Tomb Raider's creators get what ails the franchise, and they want to ensure their audience gets it, too. Less evident is the cure. This is still very much a Tomb Raider game; every thrilling set piece is also an exercise in having your cake and eating it too. Its body count feels higher than that of any other entry, with many targets being indigenous people and the ancient tombs they revere and protect. Fittingly, there's a funky tug-of-war in which local characters both admire Croft and treat her like what she is: a human wrecking ball penduluming with lethal force between mutual enemies and the locals' most invaluable artifacts, doing slightly more good than harm.
Yeah, I don't trust Gamespot one bit, same site that gave Alien Isolation a 6 and that game was phenomenal.
From the GameSpot review it sounds like the combat changes are not that great :/

Why woukd anyone find this funny? The game clearly took a lot of time and money to develop.
What a way to support the devs /sAnother perfect game to buy for pennies on the dollar in a few months or so no matter what the scores are
Additionally, Shadow of the Tomb Raider still doesn't communicate damage direction--if you're getting overwhelmed and are being attacked from the sides or behind, you won't know exactly where from, meaning it's more difficult to make smart evasive maneuvers on the fly. With so few certainties and reliable tools to assist you in close-quarters combat, these encounters typically result in making Lara scurry clumsily in whichever direction doesn't have enemies coming from it and frantically trying to create enough space to effectively use your weapons.

No way it will reach 88 with these scores, no thread imploding.
