Yes they did. They owned a large chunk of them for a set period and that definitely factored in the alresdy sustained partnership from PS1 and they definitely worked hand in hand with PS. games. FFVII is 22 years old. There's no contract there. It's because they published the original game. The remake isn't the original game so i'm sure it's going to be on on everything. For example KH1 used PS2 tech optimized by Sony because there was a lot of problems with the engine Square was initially trying to run. It's obvious they have a very close partnership and why most Square are mainly only on PS systems and why they always get everything.

Anyway we're saying similiar things so I get what you're saying here so I think we're good. I was just making a general point. No reason to keep this going because people will just try to refute it anywhere due to console warring.

Not interested in that.
Dude their max stake in Squaresoft was 18.x % after 2001. After the 2003 merger they owned 9% of the company and that never prevented either Square nor Enix from releasing games for competing systems at the time.

There's no « console warring » involved just facts.

We know about Sony's involvement in 2001, we also know Squaresoft was releasing games for the Wonderswan during the PSone generation because they couldn't go anywhere else after poisoning the well with Nintendo in 1997. So exclusivity to Sony's system had more to do with the complex nature of Japanese companies relationships than airtight contracts with Sony preventing them from releasing any of their PSone/PS2 era games on anything but a Sony console (and i specify console because those games have been everywhere)

I never played. I seem to remember people saying it wasn't that great back in the day. Perhaps I'm mistaken.

Great news.

Although would love them to turn mipmapping on and use decent amount of anisotropic filtering, that aliasing kills the art.

YES!! I loved this game back in the GC era!
although we could't find 4th friend with GBA so we always go with 3 people.

Sony had so many megatons and trailers in that stream. Nintendo direct might be underwhelming now.

The problem was that it's a co-op game first and foremost and the requirements to play together were borderline ridiculous, so a lot of people played it solo and then the game kinda sucks.

It's honestly pretty mediocre as a single player game, but it's a lot of fun in 3 or 4-player coop imo. Problem was a lot of people didn't get to experience the multiplayer due to the hardware requirements.

Unpopular opinion, but the game wasn't that fun. The fun was playing with your friends through the tech at its time.

So an AMD PC in an arcade cabinet instead of the usual intel/nvidia?

https://blog.eu.playstation.com/201...ght-not-know-about-dissidia-final-fantasy-nt/

1. Dissidia NT was built from the ground up for PS4
"We actually designed for PS4 right from the start, when we made the arcade version. We went to Sony at the beginning of the development and asked them if we could put customised PlayStation 4 hardware in the arcade cabinets themselves. They agreed, so while the hardware the arcade version is running on is not exactly the same as the home console – it's been a little customised for arcades — within each arcade cabinet in Japan there is actually a PS4!

Arcade version even uses a PS4 controller.

They are running out of last-gen-games. More and more PS2, Gamecube remasters coming ... Why not make a new game? Oh wait, that would actually use some effort. This gen is so lame. And Crystal Chronicles wasn't even that good.
Square Enix still has a ton of PS2 era games they can remaster.
  • Dawn of Mana
  • Drakengard
  • Drakengard 2
  • Front Mission 4
  • Front Mission 5: The Scars of War
  • Musashi: Samurai Legend
  • Radiata Stories
  • Romancing SaGa: Minstrel Song
  • Star Ocean: Till the End of Time
  • Unlimited SaGa
  • Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria
And other PS2 remasters could still get ported to Switch (FFX, FFX-2, FFXII, KH1, KH2, KH ReCOM, DQVIII) or PS4 (DQVIII).

What does that have to do with FF CC lol.

Oh holy shit yes. I was just lamenting to people the other day how I've wanted a new good Crystal Chronicles without it being chackled to the damn Square-Chibi style that lived on the DS for so long. I played the hell out of this with some other friends back in the day, some great dungeon crawling action and still a fantastic soundtrack.

I'm looking forward to seeing what the remaster adds to the experience, beyond online play.

So far it seems like voice acting in the in between scenes is added.

I remember when I got Crystal Chronicles. I did not know that it was a spin-off and was pretty disappointed when I played through it (didn't finish it).

A couple years later I gave it another chance and this time I really liked the game.

Can't wait to local 4-man coop this.

Interesting announcement. This was a very interesting game back in the day, I wonder if it holds up.

Lol at the thinly veiled console warring in this thread.

Oh my GOD YES

One of my favorite games ever... that I haven't been able to play properly for over 10 years because who the hell knows where my GC-GBA Cables are.

I wonder if they'll try to mess with the whole, bucket carrying mechanic. It seems like something that really puts a damper on the gameplay though I've never played this game.

I loved FF:CC back in the day. I hope (but doubt) that they refine the pot carrying system a bit, though. It was always a drag to play the game in 2P coop as it left one player doing practically nothing but carrying the pot - I always wished that the moogle was there until there are at least 3 human players.

Very cool! I never got to play this one in multiplayer and always loved the concept. Here's hoping the Switch version allows for local wireless play... one Switch in the dock outputting to the TV and then each individual player's Switch connected to the docked Switch and acting as their inventory screen. If they don't do this then I will be very disappointed...

This is such awesome news! I never beat the game as a kid but I had the gba connectors and fond memories of playing this with my friends.

Thank god it's not exclusive. lol

I can finally complete this game. Not going to happen but can you imagine how crazy it would be if they announce Gamecube controller support?

File this under one of those things I was like, man, wouldn't it be just amazing if they rereleased this for Switch? I never thought they'd actually do it. Good GOD I cannot wait.

New areas is something that surprises me the most about it, this is a amazing reason to play it again for me.
