Dude their max stake in Squaresoft was 18.x % after 2001. After the 2003 merger they owned 9% of the company and that never prevented either Square nor Enix from releasing games for competing systems at the time.Yes they did. They owned a large chunk of them for a set period and that definitely factored in the alresdy sustained partnership from PS1 and they definitely worked hand in hand with PS. games. FFVII is 22 years old. There's no contract there. It's because they published the original game. The remake isn't the original game so i'm sure it's going to be on on everything. For example KH1 used PS2 tech optimized by Sony because there was a lot of problems with the engine Square was initially trying to run. It's obvious they have a very close partnership and why most Square are mainly only on PS systems and why they always get everything.
Anyway we're saying similiar things so I get what you're saying here so I think we're good. I was just making a general point. No reason to keep this going because people will just try to refute it anywhere due to console warring.
Not interested in that.
There's no « console warring » involved just facts.
We know about Sony's involvement in 2001, we also know Squaresoft was releasing games for the Wonderswan during the PSone generation because they couldn't go anywhere else after poisoning the well with Nintendo in 1997. So exclusivity to Sony's system had more to do with the complex nature of Japanese companies relationships than airtight contracts with Sony preventing them from releasing any of their PSone/PS2 era games on anything but a Sony console (and i specify console because those games have been everywhere)
