Yep you've a base PS4 go with the X :) I'm actually the other way around with 2 Pros and one S as my main console is Sony and wanted Xbox for Forza Horizon 3 and Sea of Thieves but couldn't justify the X price for those at the time.
Quality post right here.I mean the way I look at it:
- The S to X is a bigger upgrade than PS4 to Pro. If we ranked them in performance, right now you have the 3rd and 4th most powerful. I'd rather swap that for 1st (X) + 3rd (PS4), than to 2nd (Pro) + 4th (S).
- Best quality/performance on a TON of games vs better quality/performance on a handful of exclusives
- The X operates at a decent, acceptable volume which neither the PS4 nor the Pro do imo
- You get the added bonus of an enhanced backwards compatibility catalog
- You gain access to technology your monitor or future TVs can take advantage of, like Variable Refresh Rate and Auto Low Latency Mode
I have both consoles and wouldn't hesitate for a second to recommend the X tbh
I've seen Digital Foundry and you have to use a microscope to see the difference from the Pro to the X on most of the third party games.
If this is so clear.. show me videos where the difference is "way ahead" as you say.
Yeah, this is one question I really wouldn't take internet strangers' opinions into account for OP.
You need to look at what upcoming games you personally are looking forward to and buy accordingly. If you're really looking forward to Spiderman and TLoU2 then the Pro is the easy answer. On the other hand if Shadow of the Tomb Raider and RDR2 are your most anticipated games than you should obviously get an X1X. It just depends how many games you play and on what systems.
The X is more powerful but personally I've played more PS4 exclusives and indie games (where the power difference doesn't matter nearly as much) than I have third party games, so if I had to choose between the two I'd get the Pro. But if you have different tastes you need to get what you'll use more.
Take this:
All of these are facts, but personally I only play a handful of games a year, almost never replay old games, and just bought a new TV and won't upgrade again for years, so most of these bullet points aren't information I would personally take into account, even though it's all true.
I have a base PS4 and One S right now, but with my recent purchase of a 4K TV, I thought it might be time to upgrade. I am split because I play equally, but I watch a lot of 4K video content.
For the price, what is the better deal?
Based on your situation and what you already have, i'd hands down be keeping hold of your cash and await next gen.
I think SotC is the best looking game this gen, it's insane how good that game looks. Better than HZD IMHO. But the game that's impressed me the most from a HDR point of view is easily Gears 4, specifically "No Detours".If its a HDR 4K TV with at least 800-1000 nits then I say PS4 Pro, since it has some of the best HDR games I have played this gen. SoTC,GTS, and HZD would be my top recommendations for HDR games. HDR is also supported on the base PS4, and Xbox one S, so you can still try HDR on either of them.
Agreed with others. Upgrade to the X because it's more powerful than the Pro, but especially because the UHD player. That's worth it alone. I have both but I use the X more, aside from exclusives on the Pro of course.

Pretty sure they said assassins creed origins is pushing out up to 80% more pixels then the pro, seems like a big difference to me.I've seen Digital Foundry and you have to use a microscope to see the difference from the Pro to the X on most of the third party games.

The problem is there. Some. I have one and surely some game offers notable improvement but not the majority. In any case, I have hard time to suggest one over the other. If money are an issue, pro is the choice but if money are not a problem, he should have both. The "X" easily. You have a PS4 so you have access to the PS4 Exclusives. Contrary to some others, some of the 3rd party games are significantly better on the "X" over the Pro.
"Significantly better graphics" now that's a hyperbole. If it was so significant then graphics comparison channels likes Digital Foundry wouldn't need to zoom in 400% just to outline slight differences between 2160p and 1800p.The X has significantly better graphics.
The Pro has significantly better exclusives.
uh-oh.

How is it patently false? A minority of games show notable improvement on the X over the Pro and mostly because they use better texture aka 4k or AF. For the most, face off on DF needs to be zoomed to 400% to show the real benefit of higher res because it's hard with such pixels density.that's patently false. The Xbox One X is 30'ish percent faster than the Pro, and owning both it does show. Except for Sony exclusives which are god-damn wizardry.

You completely mislead my word. I said a very minority of games show notable improvement over the Pro and such improvement are for the most higher texture res and AF. But when we are talking specifically of just res, it's not even that easy to spot on such difference. Of course is someone is obssesed to have the better multiplat console over everything, he should get the X without thoughts. But I disagree about the vastly superior multiplat on the X argument, because it's valid just sometimes.so let's see here: higher texture resolution, AF and higher overall resolution are *not* significant. to each their own.
You already have an One S for 4k Blu Ray so id go with PS4 Pro for beautiful looking exclusives. And honestly there difference isnt that huge for 3rd party games.

I never say I can't see any difference. The hell you are talking about now? I said most of the games show negligible difference and just some indeed show a notable upgrade.hey man if you don't see the difference I feel like that's your answer right there. you're not in the pickle those are that do see a difference -- like me. thankfully I can afford to own both and I wouldn't have it any other way.
I mean let's be honest, if you aren't a 4k fiend, the xbox is more or less a redundant console if you own a ps4.
If you care enough about image quality to get a 4k HDTV and a mid gen console then the differences in resolution alone for third party games are absolutely huge.
The X has a much larger advantage in resolution over the Pro than most people predicted it would and it gets very close to native 4k in a lot of third party games and hits native 4k in most first party titles.
I'd say both, otherwise I would agree with this this the caveat of recommending a 4 Pro after they make a hardware revision to quiet the thing down.If you already have a base PS4, you have the exclusives covered.
I'd say get the X for a UHD BR player, with stuff like Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, higher resolutions on most multiplats
