tried this game i bought at some sale called troubleshooter, it's like a budget xcom game if xcom had hero units and worrying korean mmo style mechanics
the first part i like quite a bit, it kind of feels more like a front mission game than xcom, since cover is nowhere near as important and you're mostly managing abilities and cooldowns and such, and it's also way lower stakes since no one can really die so i quite like that. there's no real base building but you can upgrade your characters with equipment and skills, and the skill system is actually really similar to front mission 3 in that you sort of 'steal' skills from the bad guys you defeat. map screen so far has only been a list of story missions but there's a lot of areas you can clear so it may get a bit more open ended later
i also really like the character designs (racoon lady is really fun) and while the translation is pretty rough, the game has a charm to it. there's an evil cult of mask wearing batman criminals that loves spoons for some reason that probably didn't survive translation, there's a guy that speaks really funny english and A LOT of hot anime dudes. there's also some decision making that i don't know how much it affects the story but it's fun to have
then there's the whole korean mmo thingie. like no two ways about it, this game is an mmo in disguise. despite not having any multiplayer i can think, there's a classic mmo chat menu on the bottom left corner, you log into a server when you start the game and it's also always online (which for some people this is super annoying because fuck if i know). there's also some red flag systems like exhaustion (which hasn't been a problem for me yet but still), identifying loot, daily rewards, respecs that cost money, that kind of stuff. the game also feels quite grindy, while all missions i've played have story content which is quite nice, they've mostly featured a small number of enemies and there's a feeling of leveling sameyness that a game like xcom which is always providing with new things to do doesn't have
it is fun tho, i really like this hero style system where you're just crushing baddies with super moves, and it's an early access game so a lot of things that look rough (translation, UI, tutorialization) will probably get improved, but they also will probably put a price on those mmo things that are not yet sold for real money and i can't think of a single korean mmo game i've ever played that wasn't negatively affected by this f2p shit
anyways, cool game
is this hot stud dreamy or what
You know, whenever you think about VVVVVV you think about how good the music is.
But then when you play it, you think about how it's not just good, it's amazing.
That's my 7am deep thought for the coming day.
i've played it far too many times, i love vvvvvv
you should get all the trinkets tho
