It's so weird. Like, the other fighters have some things about their abilites.
I wouldn't go that far, his track record has historically been pretty hit-or-miss, even within individual "leaks."
I wouldn't be surprised if both palutena's grace and codecs are gone. Waaaay too many fighters to write hours and hours of voiced dialogue.
A quick list of tracks they could add to represent Final Fantasy. No links because I only have so much time. No music representing the MMOs because I have no knowledge base there.
Disclaimer - I am doing this all from memory. The FFIX-XV period will suffer as a result. Also, assume I want all battle themes in Smash.
Prelude - This is THE track of the series. Also, it's not too chill for Smash - look at the music for Magicant.
Chocobo theme - BIRDS.
FF NES medley - the NES Final Fantasy games might not be a golden era for music in the series, but they need some representation
FFIV boss theme - the SNES era was where final fantasy music started getting really good. This is a banger.
FFV Battle on the big bridge - HOW THE FUCK WASNT THIS IN THE GAME
FFVI Celes Theme/ Terra Theme / Searching for friends - a lot of Final Fantasy VI's music is melancholic so a medley might be the best way to go
FFVI The Decisive Battle - come the fuck on this is a top 5 SNES battle theme
FFVI Dancing Mad - Yeah I'm one of those wine tasting snobs who thinks this is better than One winged angel. No game OST track has been this bleeding edge and ambitious for its time since, bar maybe some NieR highlights.
FFVII Bombing Mission - If you're only going to represent FFVII at least represent it well
FFVII J-E-N-O-V-A - See above
FFVII One winged angel - IF YOURE GOING TO REPRESENT FFVII AT LEAST GO ALL THE WAY IN AND PUT THE MOST FAMOUS FINAL FANTASY TRACK IN SHIT SQUARE ENIX

FFVIII The Extreme - WHEN THAT MOTHERFUXKING BEAT DROPS SO DOES MY ASS ON THE FLOOR
FFIX - Vamo alla flamenco. Smash is no stranger to flamenco so why the fuck not?
FFX - To zarakand. Add this to tribute the number of slow burn Snake x Otacon fanfic I read while listening to this.

Final Fantasy is clearly a rights issue hence the lack of music. It's part of the reason some people thought if anyone would be cut from smash 4 it'd be Cloud.
Just one song of FFIX is your major sin, when is the best FF soundtrack of them all.

Likely Square. I think they put out an album of Yoko Shimomura's music, which included Beware the Forest's Mushrooms. No mention of Nintendo, from what I understand.
Square Enix released an album in 2014 with a new orchestral cover of Beware the Forest Mushrooms so I think it's safe to say they do, outside of the Koji Kondo arrangements
Damn it I hate that Beware the forests mushrooms is the most likely Square Enix song to make Smash bros TBH.

In terms of quantity and quality Final Fantasy is unmatched in soundtracks. Even subpar games like VIII and XIII have great soundtracks.
The fact that there was no Dragon Quest games on the Famicom or Super Famicom classic is extremely suspicious. That makes absolutely no sense whatsoever unless there was something going on with the rights/licensing that they couldn't or chose to not bother adding them
We never got any Dragon Warrior games on any version of Virtual Console either. I don't think that series has any chance of being in Smash beyond something like a Slime assist trophy. There has to be something going on with the licensing that makes it difficult

I understand (and agree with) what you're saying, but didn't we get Dragon Quest on the Shonen Jump version of the Famicom Mini?
Megami Tensei+Persona series, Drakengard series, Front Mission series, Alundra series, Mother series, Seiken Densetsu/Mana series, Heaven and Earth/Soul Blazer trilogy. And that's just franchises with multiple entries, there's even singular games (such as Eternal Sonata) which I would put above the FF series in its entirety.
Don't get me wrong, FF has great soundtracks, but people tend to ignore the true gems because FF is just the popular one.
Since drakengard and NieR are part of the same series, I might call it a tie between that and Final Fantasy. The NieR soundtracks are two of the best albums of the 2010's, let alone soundtracks. The vocal production is so unique and atmospheric, and when the action kicks in it takes the whole building down with it.
Yes, but that was a system focused on getting games that would be a right nightmare even in Japan. If being in that version probably increases the odds that if we don't see it in smash it's due to rights nightmare not being offset by fan demand.
I'll give you Mother and Drakengard/NieR. Those are smaller series though, with smaller discographies.

Just cause there's like 50 FF games doesn't mean the soundtracks are better as a whole.
But we did get Dragon Quest on JP Virtual Console, 2 Dragon Quest remakes on 3DS, a Dragon Quest Theatrhythm, 2 Dragon Quest spin-offs with Heroes and Builders.
We also got Final Fantasy on the classic consoles. SE is only being stingy with Smash licensing I think. They've done quite a bit to push Dragon Quest in the West lately.
Dragon Quest in the Jump console was because of the Dragon Quest manga and anime (Dai no Daiboken) being a Weekly Shonen Jump property. It was just a part of the celebration.
And I'm not entirely sure (correct me if I'm wrong), but Dragon Quest news is often published in Jump magazines.
The newest 4chan leak being discussed in the Direct thread mentions a Smash Testfire. Kinda weird if they call it that; the Smash 3DS demo was just a demo.

It's not unusual for fighting games to recast characters even if all they do is grunt and puff. Particularly in the case of Snake, where the original recordings might have only been agreed to be utilised in Brawl depending on the terms of the contract.

I have a theory that the reason we never got Dragon Quest games in the US virtual console might've been legal red tape in that they don't own the Dragon WARRIOR name anymore and given its niche following in the West, couldn't be bothered to reprogram the title screen.
It would be more in line for him to say "No comment" instead of lying outright.

Also remember the JP voice actor for the Colonel died. Japan is pretty picky about recasting voice actors and they probably didn't feel right having a second colonel voice half the codecs or redoing all the brawl ones. There is also a time and money and with how pricey Ultimate is from a licensing perspective I'm sure Sakurai has focused his resources on more series and characters and less cool easter eggs most people won't see.
Waluigi is legit popular, dude has always been a top pick in the Mario spin-off games. Which goes to show you there's no accounting for taste.
