Have not seen a whole lot of talk about it, then again I have not read all 103 pages, but as someone who has lived only 30-45 minutes from NYC my entire life and who went to school there for 4 years, this is also my favorite depiction of NYC by far. It is not that it is very geographically correct, although it is close at times, but it just FEELS the most correct yet it is still the Marvel version of NYC.

Just wanted to share that.

What a gane, even with some shortcomings on the side fetch quest stuff, which I have to stress are so damn minor since swinging is so much fun.

Man, what the hell

Taskmaster just popped up and beat the shit out of me, lol

Lol, I've yet to hear someone complain about the lack of Black Cat on the main game besides the typical bs about dlc being cut content from the base game.

He's such a G in this game. I love my boy.

Being voiced by Varric/BJ Blazkowicz is awesome, too. He makes a great Tasky.

The only open world game in years I actually want to put the effort in to do everything. The side content could be better but bad? Nah. The game is amazing.

It's bad because it's repetitive and is literally just stuff to do. It doesn't feel like it has purpose. You have 4 content options: fight dudes, stop cars chase stuff or look for stuff. That's it. And each of these has maybe 2 variations or different ways you can do it.

I will rave about this game for years to come. I'm having so much fun I don't want to stop and the hours just flash by at warp speed. I'm 50% complete and I've doen all of the side stuff available to me at this point in the game. I can't get over how much fun this is and I'm actually really enjoying the story.

Just did the scene they showed in the first E3 demonstration (helicopter scene) and hot darn is it an amazing feeling even with the quick time events.

I rarely play games multiple times but I think this might be one of those games that I'll come back to in three months and enjoy it as much as I did the first time. Everything about it is a dream come true for me. I cannot complain about a single thing.

I am seriously keen for next gen to see just what devs will be doing with more power, I'm hoping for more physics and more world interactivity the graphics dont need to get that much better than this I am constantly wowed by this game.

Damn it looks SO darn good in the rain and overcast, the lighting system I this game is simply out of this world.

Honestly I feel like that's the point. Lots of people are complianing about the side content and I understand how some people might find it boring but to me it's just more of a chance to use the excellent traversal system to play the game more which is the entire point of anything in this game. I understand people want more but the kind of more that people want is probably outside the development budget and time frame - I mean this is a Spider-Man game not a cyberpunk rpg.

I've done two side missions and they've both been decent and the random crime stuff evolves as you progress through the story. So far the side stuff hasn't bothered me, but I'm not going after every single thing as the map starts filling up.

I know for sure I'll do the bag packs and the labs are interesting so I'll probably do those. Good thing is I don't feel the need to do everything in order to power up. I thought that would be an issue since they kind of make you do them, but at this point I feel pretty powerful while doing mostly story missions with side missions and collectibles here and there. I'll be flying across the city and will see something and go do it. It all just blends into what I'm doing so it never feels laborious.

The side content in this game has context and short lil narratives. You're given a reason why you do them. Better than most open world games where you just see random shit and do it without rhyme or reason. I appreciate the amount of flavor and writing they give us which makes them worth doing. I found most of them fun and diverse and I've done a ton already and they keep unlocking more.

Am I missing something with the skill to yank weapons out of enemies hands? I hold triangle as instructed and web is fired, but it just holds on to the weapon rather than pulling it free?

I want to shake the hand of the person that made it possible you can have your cellphone out for photo's while playing and I want to give him a hug because you can shoot pictures of landmarks while swinging too.

I also want to have a talk with the person that put the selfie mode in photomode and not on D-left or something.

How do you guys know when Act 2 starts? Is there something that shows in-game? If so, I don't think I've noticed yet.

Right now I'm at around the part where you infiltrate the
Oscorp Tower
. Is that still Act 1?

I mean looking at the map it's checklist stuff. Like midtown has 5 of each enemy group random crimes that end up mostly the same and 2 side activities that end up being just beating up people. Then it has 2 labs and like 2 challenges. Oddly enough you don't actually save people. In other Spidey games you're catching purse snatchers, stopping robberies, stopping muggers, saving falling people etc. that's why this side content doesn't do it for me. Like 100 % of the time I'm doing arbitrary stuff that's gamey. Every enemy compound is a Batman stealth challenge map that turns into waves of dudes and sure it might be framed differently sometimes but it's still the same. Most random crimes are enemy group A,B or C in a police standoff. Where is the city content? I'm not asking to save balloons for kids again, but it would just be nice to actually be a friendly neighborhood Spider-Man and do some low stakes stuff of which there isn't much of. The city doesn't feel dynamic at all due to the side content. Everything is story related and boring in comparison.

It was such a good moment. Gives a lot more meaning to the tasks, legit didn't expect that to happen as it wasn't triggered by anything other than me just roaming around a few moments after completing one of the activities. Plus the way it happened was so hype.

Anyways, I just did the mission where
you gotta rescue Dr Morgan and have a neat little sequence with Mr Negative
and man, this game is a blast, the more I play it, the more it feels like the natural progression Insomniac had to have after Sunset Overdrive, one of the last open world games I enjoyed based on mechanics alone and how much fun was it to play despite its shallowness.

Also, for some reason I haven't seen no one mention this unless it happens later on in the game (which I highly doubt), but

Dr. Morgan and the research is totally setting up Morbius, right?

Each new act is introduced as Act ##, it's impossible to miss.

I really wasn't expecting this game to be as great as it is since I went in mostly blind. The traversal and combat alone are on a whole other level compared to other action games. Way too damn fun.

The main story is really fun and engaging but the side content is super repetitive. The gameplay loop isn't as rewarding or addicting as some other open world games. With a game like this where they had so much lore that could pull from, I'm pretty disappointed they didn't utilize more of it for the side content.

gotta say, this game is a total disappointment for me. it feels like it is from 2014 in its design, bossfights are QTE riddled, all those padding stuff like towers, landmarks, pigeons....it is just busy work. there are so much things that i don´t like, it is really baffling what they have done here, the core is good but the execution is absolutely not my thing. open world 101 stuff which is really lackluster

these stealth sections are so boring and the story is sleep inducing. the mixture which is offered here is really yesteryear´s stuff. will pull through to the end but wow that is one game where i had high expectations and it falls flat on the nose. it doesn´t bring anything new to the table, even the fighting system is a faster version of the 10 year old Batman freeflow fight system.

i would have given this game a 3/5 or a 7/10 if i am honest...

I mean this is Sony AAA exclusive game that has Marvel brand on it that stars Spiderman, it's not some unknown AA game .

Well feet (or a foot) clipping through the stairs is a little shocking ;). I just don't get why Digital Foundry praise the gfx (not the game as its fab) so much. The speed and open world come at a big cost imo. The NPC's are really low detail and it shows in-game, when isn't using photo mode (Codemasters style)

Yeah, of course I will give them a couple months to patch and get things optimized. Devs like GG substantially improved graphics in certain areas after launch.

The game starts out with lower stakes stuff, but it all ramps up as the story progresses. Your points are valid, but I think as the game turns darker and things become more serious, the game world feels more cohesive this way.

It's the web of shadows approach, and that works fine in context. Assuming you're completing all side missions as they become available. If you're not, well then the post game is just totally out of tone. And new stuff doesn't become available it's just replays of the same events. And in the beginning it's low stakes but no variation. The beginning side stuff is the same as the end, it's just the enemies change. If they add a random crime generator to DLC I'd be set. As I said Spider-Man is a street hero, he stops muggers and the everyday bank heist so they need to occur.

I don't know, most open world Ubisoft games and the Arkham games are worse. And at least there's not like 900 backpacks or whatever (a la Korok seeds), just 55, each with a unique bit of story attached. In any case, the challenges and research missions are far better than the collectathon stuff imo.

How do you defend 165 of those random crime events though?

Hint: You don't. This game is just as bad as the Ubisoft games when it comes to filler side content.

Ok... I need someone to explain upgrades point launch to me.

I know that I'm timing my jump press right but it doesn't do it every time. Does it have a cooldown / is it tied to velocity or something? Does it only work on certain surfaces? Do I have to always be holding R2 as well to invoke it?

Sometimes it feels like the regular point launch won't work unless I'm already holding R2 and sometimes the upgraded one doesn't feel like it will work unless I'm NOT holding R2.

The I consistency is driving me nuts (and ducking up my challenge token runs) - so I need insight from any friendly neighbourhood SpideyERA peeps.

Help a breh out

The side content is garbage. I dunno why people are even arguing against that.

The fact is, the traversal and combat more than make up for it. Not everything needs to be The Witcher 3.

Side content in The Witcher 3 is nothing special as well. Very ripetitive outisde some major side quest ( like the one with Roche for istance). The great thing about TW 3 side content is the story behind it which is usually interesting.

The contract for example are very similar between them. You search info about the monster and then kill it. The gameplay loop and (especially) the story keep the interest up though ( i loved the Witcher 3 ) .

Maybe because of hyperbolic words being thrown around like "garbage". Not the best =/= garbage.

Having played a lot of open world games, this hovers near the average to above average tier of side missions/content honestly. And is elevated further with combat/traversal, like you said.

It's bad because it's repetitive and is literally just stuff to do. It doesn't feel like it has purpose. You have 4 content options: fight dudes, stop cars chase stuff or look for stuff. That's it. And each of these has maybe 2 variations or different ways you can do it.

So? I love all that it has and understand better variation would be a huge improvement....I still love it though. Also, I haven't played an open world game that hasn't got repitive side missions to some degree.

As I said. The side content is garbage. It's not hyperbole, it's an opinion whether you agree or not. If this was a multiplat, nobody would defend it imo.

I'm enjoying the game because of the traversal and combat. I'm also glad that the games hardest difficulty isn't actually that much of a jump from normal. I will 100% the game and move on. This is definitely not one to keep in the collection.

a lot of spiderman side content is similar to witcher 3 treasure chests, bandit camps, horse racing, fist fighting, monster nests and gwent battles. Witcher contracts are a bit more engaging due to small stories and sometimes theres usually some kind of twist compared to spider man stuff. Actual side quests are not even comparable

I agree with you. Some side quest in The Witcher 3 were legit good. But you can see the difference in the traversal system and the combat which are way better in Spider- Man for example. Different focus due to time and budget limit. Maybe in the sequel we'll see major improvements in side content as well.
