LOL that is really disappointing, thanks. Did you do the post dungeon or whatever?

Without spoiling anything I'd say I'm about 3/4 through the meat of the postgame.
There's actually very little of the postgame that is mandatory, and I've had access to the postgame final boss for a while, but I'm doing a complete sweep of the overworld and doing any and all event-related postgame stuff (of which there is a ton) before I give the final boss a go.

Don't you think that might be a little irrealistic? I just got past the World Tree bit at 42h, but I'm not expecting another continent or more towns, there's plenty already. The story feels nowhere close to over though.

Maybe, but it feels like just as much as DQ 8 when you move forward in the franchise I expect a little bit more I haven't gotten down to the nitty gritty numbers and I know they worked on more things like the presentation and such but man.. it seems like the scope of the game fell short a bit! I'm reserving judgement, regardless I'm enjoying the game and will get my moneys worth.

Sap is pretty bad on that fight because most debuffs count each attack in a round as a turn for their duration for some reason, and since she attacks 3times a turn, she'll just deplete Sap duration in 2 turns which is kinda meh.

I just did the fight on hard and I overprepared a bit after getting my ass kicked the first time, but still:
There's more than one good strategy I wanna say for this. Personally I went with a strategy in mind, then it completely got messed up by RNG but I was high lvl enough at 30 that I still pulled through.

First thing is I think you want either Jade or the Hero with one of their high tier single target skill, can do both. For hero I went with Unbridled whatever, it's the hidden greatsword skill at the top of the tree, it does triple damage basically, I had to respec to get it, I dropped the bottom of greatsword tree to unlock it since the boss fight only has one monster. For Jade, Multithrust in the middle of the spear tree. You also want to get them good weapons, I explored a fair bit before I came back to the boss so I had a vendor sword from a village later in the game(Wing Sword or whatever, looks like a big sickle) on my Hero and the Lightning Spear crafted from a recipe you get in the Eyrie.

After that, my plan was to use Sylvando to aoe heal(Hustle Dance)+remove charm(Slobbering Slap) and Serena to cast Crackle Pop on everyone to prevent further debuffs. However I forgot I had respeced Sylvando out of Slobbering Slap so I never got to remove charm once and the first turn the boss blocked abilities on my Hero, so I couldn't even use the skill I respeced for. At least I got some Hustle Dance healing in, it's a great ability.

I switched Hero out for Erik figuring I'd dump his Pep skill quickly and switch back, who then promptly got charmed and basically stayed charmed the entire fight, so I ended up 3manning it. She only hit Jade with charms right before removing the charm with attacks luckily, so Jade was just pumping multithrusts for 350 a turn or so.

Also I set up my characters to have pep, specifically Jade+Hero+Serena at the start gives you +2buff, +2oomph and health+mp regen for several turns on the whole party, which is pretty big, especially the Oomph for damage.

I think at 30 I was overleveled and would be doable before, but it wasn't much grinding to get there tbh, I think first time I got there I was 27, I explored some other areas which got me to 28 and a half or so, and when I came back to grind a bit before fighting the boss, ran into liquid slimes which give 10k each so I got there in like 5mins.

I took off hard mode and much happier for it. It made me dread boss fights and made the game feel like a slog.

Biggest secret in Heliodor downtown that 99.9% people don't know!

I assume majority of people have passed this very early point and it's not something significant at all, but just in case I put a spoiler here.

There are 5 completely different ways in total to pass the sentry, and the most hidden one is this:

He will nap during 8 to 9 o'clock. And you can walk through it without using dog, letter, money or secret tunnel.

I've the same thought like you. When you wait something for decades you always want more. I dreamed of open world, the returning of monster recruitment, deep job-system and highly-custom character etc. In terms of game system or map things, this installment can't live up to my expectation.

But I understand it's too unrealistic, considering this title had been only developed for 3 years! (think of FFXV, and lets say another big western title GOW, at least 5+ year development when using new engine) It even has 3DS version in which the majority details are different(it's not a technically scaling version at all)!

Regardless, in DQ11 you can find a lot of exciting ideas in experiment! Say the map. You already encountered one that allows you to free roam in all the angle. Later there are some other maps let you literally reach every piece of corner! I'm looking forward to DQ12 to bring all these "experiments" to a broader scale!

I didn't even think about job classes.. I don't think I'm being too unrealistic specially when they are touting the 100-120 hours numbers! I'm not even sure how much story is left over after the tree section and I'm sure there is another 20-30 hours for me which would put me at around 85-90 hours and its really hard to complain about this but I think it's fine to be critical of the game; doesn't mean I think any less of it at all. I wish more of the improvements would of came from the game systems and exploration such as you mentioned rather than presentation or visible enemies on the map but I also recognize I am in a minority. I also don't think the characters are super well developed either but I do appreciate the voice acting among other things they brought for the western release at the end of the day this is DQ and I love it.

It seems like the longer I grind, the greater their frequency of appearances. It got to a point when I was farming dragons the Dundrisil Ruins the dragons were accompanied by three metal slimes every third or fourth fight. That was after a good hour of grinding.

Is there any way to make the textboxes go slower in cutscenes? Having the entire text while the characters are still speaking is weird

How do you get that treasure chest by the river in the Hotto Steppe?
There's going to be a lot of things you'll see that you won't be able to get right away, it's a good idea to note them down so you can come back later. It's pretty common for RPGs to do this kind of stuff, I always start a text file when I play a game where I find this stuff so I remember later. I have about 20 of such things in my list after 30hours in the game.

Was just finally able to test out Divide with Victimize and it's amazing. It only lasts for one attack, but you can just keep using Cobra until it lands, next turn Divide, then the turn after that Victimiser. All three hits will do Victimiser damage. In three turns I did 1500 damage, which is well beyond what Erik can do normally over the course of the same amount of time.

So if my party gets wiped out, do i have to pay a certain amount of money to resurrect at the statue?

You lose half your gold and can pick to start again from the nearest save point or area change. You can also go to your last autosave and lose no gold but you lose any xp or items gained.

is anyone enjoying finding the bullseye targets? it's a pain in the ass in the bigger areas.

I've cleared three areas, only have one target left in one of the snowy areas. Some hang from trees, some are hard to see as they're concealed by leaves, and a few I found were on structures (like the top of a tent). I aim the camera all over as I search looking for the tell tale icon to appear.

My party wipes at the fight in Gondolia. Worst part is that the game does not save right before the bossfight so after a wipe I have to clear a bunch of trash first, every damn time....

Always hate it when games do this.

OK for those who are interested in Hard mode..

Boss attribute increase according to my calculation:
HP 50%
Attack 30%
Defense 30%

MP not known, but certainly much higher. (For the first boss, in normal mode it only has 9, but in hard mode it can spend much more than 9)

I just finished the first boss with 6 modifiers on, I must say this is really hard... It surprised me in fact.
It can wipe the team in two turns if you are level 6 or lower so I grind to lvl 7.

Its heal is really problematic, but luckily I somehow predicted it and get the right build from the beginning.

I just found out that the forging pot overheated when I reloaded the game to craft again after I failed to get +3 equipment. The fucking thing told me to wait 5 min before I can craft again.

Save in two slots before forging. Load the first slot you saved in when you want to retry.

Nah, I'm not going to bother. I don't really need every +3 equipment anyway. It's just weird that the devs felt the need to include this mechanic to discourage people from retrying crafting. Why did they care? It's a fcking single-player game. Has any game ever done something like this before?

LMAO no way, you're braver than me I have 3/6

I could of probably went with no shopping... but Shypox is just luck only started with 3/6 and no running isn't a big deal, you are a brave soul no armor is insane to me.

I was wondering if the equipment of the hero from Trodain aka Eight is actually the best in the game. Pretty sceptical about this
Visually or strength wise?

I thought they got rid of it because when I reloaded it let me go right away I swear.
