Oh, and about 4 hours in and loving it so far!

Not really, about 40% of mine have been taken mid-swing..My Peter is a pretty bad Photographer, but he gets some interesting shots.

Just picked this game up yesterday.

Web slinging is super fun and addictive. Game looks real nice for an open world.

I still haven't really mastered the combat. I'm not used to the Arkham style fighting but I'm sure it's only a matter of time before it clicks.

Playing this a bit different to how i play other open world games. Grabbed all the backpacks (assuming theres 55?) and done all the towers leaving just the core gameplay stuff. I've still only done the prologue mission and the first set of bits at Dr O's lab. 8)

Ok this is important

Does the game explain how are the backpacks there ?

Like ... the WHOLE POINT of spidey's web is that they desintegrate in a few hours so it makes no sense for the backpacks to be hidden in web to be caught later another DAY or whatever.

It's explained why they are there and from when.

I really thought for a second that Mary Jane was played by Ashley Johnson (VO of Ellie from The Last of Us) because she sounds and looks a lot liker her.

The mechanics in this game was so enjoyable that I find myself doing side content as soon as it becomes available just because it's another chance to swing around and beat people up, the core design of the open world might not be bleeding edge but I don't think it needs to be when the act of playing is this good.

I love this game.

Fighting two Brutes at once isn't fair.

I know. I've been there and I still hate facing them. Once you start unlocking more and more of the gadgets they become easier and easier at your skill level with them improves.

So I did a entire area pure stealth. Took all of them down from the shadows and with my webs like a Spider do. I was feeling proud big headed and all and when I went to continue the story mission a whole fucking mob came after me. Wave after wave. Made the stealth I did a moment ago worthless.

Ugh clearing out all the side content in the post game and it's really bad. I've only completed two neighborhoods and I'm already over it. Feels like I'm back in 2009.

What's up with the sound on the ground sometimes? I'm at Times Square. Just separate distant voices, nothing from traffic at all. Kind of eerie.

Small detail you may or may not have noticed, the way Peter talks when he is on the phone will change depending on if he is stationary or webslinging.

I noticed this. Such a small detail but so much hardwork for it. Props to Insomniac.

But I do have to say, I am glad this game hasn't gone above 90 - because it wouldn't have deserved it. While it may be an outstanding game and I really love almost all of it, it has quite a lot of blemishes (albeit small) here and there that can totally be improved upon in the sequel, if there will be one. This is Uncharted 1 - a very, very strong Uncharted 1 and a spectacular Uncharted 2'esque Spidey sequel will hopefully earn that above 90 spot for Insomniac.

Great game (Yuri Lowenthal is by far the best Spider-Man), but am I the only one that has questionable performance? Cutscenes always stutter at certain parts or just skip several seconds, and swinging around the city has times where the game freezes for several seconds while the textures look like they're still loading. Is this an OG PS4 issue? There's also issue with the dialogue skipping and the subtitles being several seconds ahead.

And this is why I do a bit at a time or while passing by if I am interested. Having only side content at the end and clearing the districts sounds awful.

Do you not play many games or something? Nearly every open world game in the last decade or more has had copious amounts of side content and collectathon elements, even the super critically acclaimed ones. In that sense it's less of a 2009 thing, and more of a 2018 thing. They are ultimately optional if you don't enjoy them though.

On a side note, this is why I pave it out and do a bit of everything constantly as I pregress the main story simultaneously. Leaving the vast majority of side content to the end always runs the risk of feeling extra repetitive.

Do you guys just not pay attention? Parker turns around and sees Li basically powering out before everything goes down. Also, Li doesn't give a shit about hiding his identity.
Just re-watched that scene and it isn't even that clear who all was "powering up" because the scene goes all weird with spider sense and multiple people are shown with that negative energy before exploding. Since multiple people were doing that, why should Peter consider Li the mastermind instead of just one of the many people with negative energy coming out of them?

It still makes no sense for Li to expose himself then when before that all his minions were keeping his identity a big secret and wore masks all the time.

Then in the conversation a week later, MJ talks about people saying Li controlled them or something? Again, that didn't make much sense, those people all exploded/died, and the rest were minions who wouldn't dare talk about their boss. And for people who weren't supposed to explode, why would he show them his face and let them live unless they were dedicated minions?

Just poor story telling IMO.

Save percentage says I'm at 63%, just finished the Raft section from E3. How much longer about do I have in the main story?

The movement plus the way the city changes throughout the game makes this feel like the next gen Protoype sequel we never got

Yeah, I play plenty of them. This game is especially bad for useless side content. That's why I noticed it.

e: Can't be bothered counting the number of open world games I've platinumed, but 12 Ubisoft ones alone. And this game stands out as especially bad.

I haven't had anything with the dialogue skipping, but the rain effects rekt my OG PS4 framerate.

Laura Bailey, who coincidentally looks to be playing Ellie's mum in TLOU2. Actually not that much of a coincidence considering her and Troy Baker are in every video game.

I don't know, most open world Ubisoft games and the Arkham games are worse. And at least there's not like 900 backpacks or whatever (a la Korok seeds), just 55, each with a unique bit of story attached. In any case, the challenges and research missions are far better than the collectathon stuff imo.

The swinging around really does feel amazing, and the street level detail? I'd sometimes just walk around for a few blocks! Was also surprised how complex the combat gameplay can get, using everything at your disposal is such an ultimate Spidey experience and I can't wait to unlock more options, also the Fisk boss fight was so much fun. I'm riding high so can't think of flaws right now apart for few glitches. Insomniac nailed it.

Is it just me, or is this game kinda hard?

I'm dieing pretty regularly.
I'm only like an hour or two in, but yeah it isn't easy at all imo. I wanted my 6 year old to play it so put it on easy for them and...nah. Not happening. Even on easy I was trying to help her out and died myself doing it. Got pissed that it's hard even on the easiest setting so just turned it off. I think I'll just play through it myself quick and then sell it. So pretty disappointed in it because of the difficulty initially at least. Kids wont be playing it now and I wanted them to be able to try it.

I actually love the side missions, except for the challenge missions which can go take a dunk in the Hudson.

The arkham games absolutely aren't worse. There's the pyg stuff that had a questline, the man bat stuff had an actual questline, all of the ras/hatter/freeze/croc dlc additions had actual questlines, etc that end with you busting a villain and taking them to jail.

Spider-Man is like Arkham if all of the side content was bomb disposal and enemy camps. It's all generic and it really harms it.

Top tip for landmarks, you can actually get the photos while mobile. E.g. Swinging past a location. Simply leave the camera on, when you're in view of the place press L2, look at it, press R1 and release and keep your momentum. There's some spots where you can get like 4-5 landmarks in 20 seconds, and you actually get some really cool shots. Also you can be surprisingly far away of landmarks to still get a photo of them.
Thanks you so very much for this tip. It made things so much easier <3

I edited my post, I've platinumed plenty of them. This game is particularly bad. It's on par or worse than any Ubisoft game of the last five years - maybe not Origins, that game was way too fucking big - and all the side content is worse than Arkham City which is 7 years old. Riddler Trophies alone are far more engaging than anything in this game, I'll also agree that Korok seeds were absolutely stupid.

- Backpacks are mindless and require no skill for a tiny bit of lore. Could've been tied to puzzles.
- Black Cat stuff is just a DLC tease and waste of time.
- Speaking of puzzles... repetitive rehashes from Ratchet & Clank.
- Side quests have little to no story and are mostly just extended random crimes except for Tombstone.
- Speaking of random crimes: 165 are required for completion. There's like 10 different crimes. A bunch of repetition.
- The research labs are like PS2 gen open world quests we're they're just figuring out the medium.
- The challenges are okay but lack variety compared to Arkham and the scoring doesn't seem as consistent.
- Outposts are also like combat challenges, there's a bunch of them, very little variation and repetitive.
- Collect 12 pigeons is just the chase the floating object from the AC games.

I'm probably forgetting something but all of this side content is really lacking when the industry is shifting toward more meaningful side content and less mindless busy work. And I like mindless busy work to do while listening to a podcast, so it has to be pretty bad for me to be annoyed with it.

Yeah Laura Bailey is really good. I wouldn't have guessed it was her. Her last game performance was Nadine Ross in Uncharted Lost Legacy and she's completely different in that.

Ok ... how the hell does he improved the web to hold for 6 fucking years ?

Is that a special web ? like are the towns of new york a complete web mess full of web dirt ?
Actually, thats the most probable. He has different webs for different actions. It's stated in one of the side missions that the web fluids he use to zipline and to swing are different.

To be honest though, it's one of the few small things that one shouldnt really think too much off.

Like how Peter Parker is so broke yet can make so many different suits in the game. Unless you know, the police gives him those tokens because he's such a good boy.
