How does the game handle progress on the switch when you're mobile and not connected to the internet?

2K19 basically fixed all the problems I had with 18. Loving the way more serious campaign ATM

Yes, there is some comedy moments that my brother laughed at. Just finished the full prelude story and I definitely have to say this was the best they have done.

I do really wish for a full 2k10 style game though with full G-league integration and we work full seasons down there. Hoping we get it withthis style of game.

Thank god they fixed the shooting difficulty I played slashers only last year and it gets boring when you have an 85 open shot and still miss easy buckets. This is closer to 2k17 in shooting and I'm abke to put up respectable numbers shooting again. So happy with how this game turned out

I played several hours yesterday and I have to say it's a big improvement, there are some really nice quality of life improvements. Defense is a lot better this year. There are legit steal animations that make it easier to pick off passes.

The story in the My Career was actually pretty good, I was actually surprised. The menus, the training for badges all of that is so much faster. You get more VC per game now, it's a definite improvement over 2k18. Yes, you still have to grind VC and microtransactions still annoy me but it's better than last year.

The only reason I'm buying this game is because I love basketball and it's the only basketball game on PC... Luckily u can get it for like 30 bucks on PC. 2K18 was terrible and it seems they're a bit less greedy this year.

That opening cutscene in the main game was getting to mgs4 length, Christ. I'm liking the characters more this year. Going to experience the online shenanigans tonight.

Got the switch version preordered for Tuesday. Who else it getting the switch version?

Edit: Wonder if this version will sell more than last year's? It's number 3 for Switch stuff at GameStop online for example.

So is mycareer still the same VC bullshit as last year?
some people are showing -vc on things so we probably wont know till 11th but I would assume vc will be just as bad as last years.

apparently u can hit 3's like no tomorrow with maxed out limitless range badge u can even be sitting on the floor backwards and make shots. 3's and defense sounds 2k17 level

At this point I wish they would just release the My Player any My team modes separate from the My GM and regular multiplayer. There doesn't seem to be a ton of overlap anymore. I keep rooting for the Live team, but it seems they still have a ways to go to compete with 2k when it comes to on the court stuff. I find mysel rotating sports games every 3 years or so, but I may skip out on 2k this year, which is a huge bummer given basketball is by far my favorite sport, to the point where I've written about it now for around a decade.

This. If they had an offline myplayer where stat progression was less of a grind, but the caveat was I could never take my player online, I'd be fine with that. Thrilled in fact.

How does the Switch graphics compare to the previous years version of the PS3 and Xbox360 versions? (If there aren't any for them this year)

Wait, where can you get 2K19 for $30 on PC? Unless you are in Europe and then CDKeys has it for $35

I really wish there was an option for SP only MyCareer and MP MyCareer. Yet we are not going to see it since 2K is getting so much $$$ from VC.

Help me out guys, which version should I buy out of PC, PS4 Pro, and Switch? Is PC version pretty decent? But Switch on the go argh!! I got 2k18 on Switch last year and really enjoyed it but didn't like the lag at all.

PC or PS4 Pro is the best bet. PS4 will likely have more players than PC and less cheaters. However you can probably get PC version cheaper.

Also, you can get a special costume on PS4.

yes, I wouldn't even bother with the switch version till it hits 60fps, which won't be likely till the next iteration. It felt insanely slow and unresponsive in 2k18

Damn haha. My friend is gifting me Lebron Edition this Tuesday; I'm a casual player & will play 100% handheld. As you've said, the performance will definitely turn away serious gamers. Thank goodness I can skip cutscenes.

They going to run out of stamina insanely fast doing that.........I noticed it in my career, so I decided to get more clever with handles and screens. Holding turbo against a lock down defender is going to get them smoked. Plus when they body you and try to force their way through you can easily attempt a steal there and have a decent chance of getting it.

PC servers are godly atm though, its clear that they have no idea what they are doing console side as the shit there is wack, and again its only going to get worse because the console version for general public is Tuesday........the amount of folks playing now isn't even the flood thats going to enter.

MyCareer is by far the best it has been in a LONG time. I've been getting on average 1k to 1.5k VC per game. You have way more options this year to get VC and most basic animations don't cost much anymore. I remember having to spend like 20k VC last year on dribble animations. It's much better on the character side, just don't go to the shops in the neighborhood I saw 8k VC for one fucking tattoo........dear lord. So concentrate on actually playing the game first, VC is much more generous and its probably the easiest to upgrade a player in 2k19 then it was this entire generation. Also getting badges are much, much better this year. I had a bronze badge for difficult shots before I even left china.....and almost have 4-5 total bronze badges after 3 games.

I did notice acrobatic layups activate more often depending on your arc type too, my dude is pulling some DRose shit driving the lane and its so much better with having the shot bar back for layups and stuff.

NBA 2k18 is probably the worst 2k game this gen, while 2k19 seems to actually be the best so far. I'm packing up my stuff to head to my parents house later and play with my little brother. Will post more impressions hopefully tonight on the VC fiasco and see if what we have in the beginning gets better or if they pull and switch and say fuck you down the line.

Nice impressions & tips!

I want to get this so bad on Switch. I just can't get over the player models and lack of clothing physics. They look off and I don't know why.

If you're a long time fan, used to the console & PC performance- I can imagine the visual difference can be negativity affecting as you play. Wait a couple of years as the OP suggested.

Frame rate is still 30fps but from my limited time with it up to this moment, I'd say it feels smoother than NBA 2K18.

Appreciate the videos you've posted!

Well, I am jumping in on Xbone X with the NBA bundle anyway so I will be good but would have double dipped on PC for $30.

It's good hearing about the VC earnings and badge progression for My Career. That sounds much, much better. That plus updated badge progression and improved defense gameplay actually sound really good. I did like Prelude as well.

Live 19 is also pretty great but it's still not quite there. I can see getting it during BF sales though.

Game is already better than 18 especially the my career. The story is better, no annoying cut scenes thus far ( if there was you can skip them) when youre in the NBA and they are more generous with the VC.

The my park games are different though. Players cannot seem to handle the ball well so it seems like you're constantly getting stripped or just flat out lose the ball. Maybe they did this so people don't dribble the air out of the ball?

I'm gonna try and see how much VC I can make with that 0 minutes playtime method. Don't really want to spend more money on 2K. Haven't gotten my key yet from CDKeys, so prolly won't be able to play tonight.

yup.. on PNO you absolutey have to play off ball defense due to this shit

why the hell they ever got rid of the option to change your teams and jerseys at the same time as your opponent is like the most baffling shit of all time. why the FUCK would i want to play against the same team or play with the same jersey color. and why is it even ALLOWED

Aight, got my key and can finally pre-load the game. Need like 70GB space? D: Hope everything loads faster than last year. 2K17 was amazing in that department, but u had the unnecessary load into the neighborhood into the slow walk to the locker room and court.

very tempted by 2k19 on switch, as I'll be traveling soon

then I remembered VC (apparently not as bad as 18, but still bad), so I'll keep voting no with my wallet

Is there a review embargo? When does it lift?

Curious how this will look and play on the One X. I'd only be playing vs mode online with regular teams - will I have enough opponents to play against? I have no interest in career create a player mode.

This runs so so so so much better on Switch than last year.

Handheld NBA 2K is bliss.

I went back to the PS4 NBA 2K18 last week (to try in vain to get the discounted offer for 2k19) and it was like night and day with the switch version in terms of how it ran. The Switch version is better, but is it that much better? I'm still way more tempted by the PS4 version, I think.

I found 2K18 rather unplayable on Switch and mostly played on PS4. 2K19 on Switch is good enough I cancelled any plans to get it on PS4 and am going Switch only.

NBA Live has micro transactions this year... If they could find a way to integrate an open world component into their game like 2K they'd have something. Imagine an open world game with wnba players so female gamers have a character to play.

I want a 6'8 shooting guard thats good at defending but not a defender. I'm going shot creating playmaker or dribble gawd playmaker. Something with some defense but gets buckets. Any ideas on what build i should go with? I want a 6'10 SF in a shooting guard role like KD but that takes too much effort.

Leaving my PS4 on to download while I'm at work so I can wake up tomorrow and grind badges.

I got the switch version on Friday and was playing it all weekend.

I don't have the ps4 version to compare it with. But I did have 2k18 on switch and the 2k19 version is definitely an upgrade from 2k18. The game runs smoother and the controls are more responsive. And they polished up a lot of things from last year. Everything just looks cleaner. Its not a huge upgrade in terms of visuals but it does look better. There are already plenty of 2k19 switch videos on youtube so u can see for yourself.

One of the things that annoyed me last year was how the cheerleaders hair just popped up. They fixed that for 2k19. :-)

And the gameplay seems identical to the console versions. I don't see that they've cut any content out.

All of the 2k19 tutorials I've been watching apply to the switch version.

One of the major annoyances I had with the Switch version is that there was no way to put the console to sleep and resume the game. I realize it's because they don't want people cheating the netcode to accumulate VC (or something) but is there at least a way to save your progress so you can go back to it later? That and having to be online at all times kind of defeats the purpose of having it be portable in the first place, to me.

The two NBA games seem to be taking turns.

Live was up there and then after the best bball game ever (Live 10) they ruined it with Elite.

2K have now got cocky and greedy and just as it's happening, Live is building a quality product again.

Legit curious but what about NBA live 2010 did you like so much? I wanna say that the last NBA live that was close to 2K in gameplay was '04.

Question about the Switch version and difficulty.

I don't mess with the sliders or anything and typically just play on Pro settings over the years since I'm more of a casual player of the series and I'm good with that. Last years Switch version was terribly difficult on the Pro setting, in comparison to previous years playing the PS4 version. How is the difficulty on Pro this year?

It's even harder this year.
