Confirmation the feds are still looking at Trump Org for possible campaign finance violations in the wake of Cohen's plea.

Federal prosecutors in Manhattan are investigating whether anyone in the Trump Organization violated campaign-finance laws after securing a conviction last month of Michael Cohen, according to a person familiar with the matter.

The inquiry, not previously reported, shows that the Manhattan U.S. attorney's office doesn't intend to stand down following the guilty plea from Trump's longtime personal lawyer. Manhattan prosecutors are working on a parallel track to U.S. Special Counsel Robert Mueller, who is tasked with examining Russian interference in the presidential election and who is referring other matters as they arise to appropriate sections of the Justice Department.

Only 1 in 5 young people vote. Are you really surprised people on this forum don't vote or never have?

A mod's ridiculous derail, drive-by post in the OT Obama speech thread. Love how another mod came into the thread and told people to chill out. And didn't warn the mod for it even though what he did was certainly moddable.

There is no way on earth that saying "I never want to vote again" should be an actionable offense.

Sooooooooooo, any American wanna make a "go fucking vote!" OT? Lots of mods post in here. It should be pinned to the top of both forums from Oct. 1st all the way to Election Day.

What is wrong with people? I come from a family of fiery Oklahoma Democrats. It was impressed upon my sister and me that you always vote, every time, because if you don't you have no right to complain and because you should take some ownership of your country.

I understand frustration, but I don't understand this laziness and apathy among people who can vote but don't. It takes no time.

Not just that but people way way underestimate how bad 2010 and 2014 were for things.

If we had fair House maps we could have won the majority in 2012 and possibly even 2016 (the generic vote was close enough even if it produced a small GOP edge).

If we'd won just two extra Senate seats between 2010 and now we'd have the majority. Pennsylvania (2010/2016), Wisconsin (2010/2016), Arizona (2012), Nevada (2012), Colorado (2014), Alaska (2014), North Carolina (2014), Missouri (2016) were all within five points, take your pick. Obama could have gotten Garland through in the last two weeks of his presidency and Trump couldn't get Kavanaugh through now. Three extra Senate seats and we wouldn't have the tax bill nor would we have had to worry about ACA repeal.

And that speaks nothing of the multitude of state governments we've lost or lost so much ground in we don't even have any leverage as the minority.

Liberals assumed because Obama won twice that was all they needed to do and we as a country need to greatly expand our scope.

Speaking of which here's a fucking excellent Excel spreadsheet that just showed up in my Twitter feed, compiled by Taniel from DailyKos Elections, of basically every election and referendum in 2018 that matters. Not just House/Senate/Gov but state legislative control, state supreme court, county sheriffs, etc. etc. Like it's extremely thorough and lays out perfectly what's on the line this year:

Am I this?

Do I need to show my crayon map from 2012 to prove my credentials? (please don't bring up 2014 and 2016, I was young and foolish)
Nice. I have a couple things to add there.

There is a lot of shit that came with Trump's win, but there are some benefits.

100% there would have been a Red Wave this October. I don't even know if Hillary would have gotten to make any Supreme Court picks truth be told.

I honestly think her Presidency would have very well led to Republicans winning enough seats to start making Constitutional Amendments. We were doomed either way.
Well I think if she won the WH she would have won the Senate. And there's no way she'd let the GOP deny her a SCOTUS pick. She'd be on Schumer's ass until he lowered the threshold to a simple majority.

The vast majority of people do not actually give a shit about politics other than a presidential election, and then only if there's a charismatic person to vote for.

I admit I didn't vote in 2008 even though I'd turned 18 a few months before the election. A poster said it was ingrained to them at a early age to vote I'd say my experience was the exact opposite. It wasnt until my first serious relationship with a person that was very political that I finally decided to register. 2016 was the first election I voted for and I will be back for these midterms and 2020. I can't be as politically active as I'd like but damnit I can vote so I vote.

There's a certain segment of the left, represented by folks like Colin Kaepernick, who feel that non-participation is the only conscionable response to an immoral system.

I very much disagree with that viewpoint, but it comes from a place of thinking that the system is so immoral and so unrepresentative that non-participation is the only way they can respond in good conscience.

I just want to summarize: The deputy finance chair of the Republican National Committee told his mistress to get an abortion, then paid her $1.6m hush money in an agreement drawn up by PRESIDENT TRUMP's former fixer and personal lawyer.

I mean, come the fuck on.

Are you lecturing us? I will vote Don Jr. 2024 if I feel the least bit of lecturing. I'll vote Eric.

But it's all worth it to the Evangelicals if they can get Kavanaugh to end abortion on demand!!!!
