This is populist, watercooler nonsense talk.
Owned Nothing but BMWs and Mercs. Half of my family owns german cars and I have family and friends that work for BMW and Mercedes.

I worked for Mercedes up until a couple years ago at their powertrain plant.

Had several company cars in my time and 3 of them had problems

I also own two BMWs, a 335d and an M140i, the 335d needed a new steering rack after 30k miles, would have cost me 5k had I not insisted on a years warranty from the dealer I bought it from.

I'd argue against reliability surveys, in my experiance it's always luck of the draw.

It looks like a car a first grader would draw. Its bizarre proportions are much more obvious in person.

It doesn't look that different from the other goofy looking electric cars people bring up in this thread.

These things look horrible in person. Some people love em though that's their thing

Bought a brand new 5 series a few years back. Currently at 50,000 miles and not a single problem. Drives just as well as the day I bought it.

This is in contrast to the Toyotas I used to have. Not that they aren't reliable (they are), but I notice their driving characteristics don't hold up over time, even though they still "work".

I think you have to draw a line between new and used German cars. Very big difference buying new versus buying someone's 3 year old lease.

I'm very excited to hear you explain why/how F1 and Le Mans are helping non-Tesla companies catch up on EVs. Porsche LMP1 hybrids were years ago and didn't make their way into full EVs yet when others like Tesla and GM already had cars on the road. Did you mean Formula E? Formula E aren't even associated with manufacturers.

The constraints are mostly in supplying batteries anyways, which almost nobody but Tesla has a good apparatus for.

My comment was on down stream tech. Meaning some of the work they've done does filter down. It's completely disingenuous to state that there racing to catch up. You're acting as if they're step 0 and have no plan. The tech does get there but it's different than just build and let's see.

Le Mans hybrid tech with braking helped with consumer cars and Audi's Quattro came from group b. I don't doubt there's similar items being worked on at racing programs that will serve as basis for consumer cars

I know for a fact that Jaguar have a Formula E team, and their projects their (alongside other manufacturers) played a huge part in their first EV the I-Pace
Are they owners or manufacturers? I could've swore the Formula E teams all used the same car, not manufactured by the owners (like in F1).

They are as reliable as any other major brand, if not usually above average.

Surveys are indeed a poor measure of general quality/reliability. You see low end KIAs and Dacias leading polls because there is less to fuck up in these cheap cars and these brands have less performance models.

Also, people who own expensive luxury/performance cars tend to let less issues slide than those with cheapo ones. Something else to take into account when you go look at consumer stats.

Proud to have been one of those Model 3 sales in August. Hope they can keep this momentum going. A win for Tesla is a win for all EVs, and that's a win for us all.

I love my Model 3, and so do my two other coworkers who own their own, too.

People are resistant to change.

Lol now you are just trolling, if you think the Leaf or anyother garbage electric designs like the one BMW has compares to the Model 3

looks are subjective. I personally think the model 3 exterior looks bland/boring, and I also dislike the interior design. If I were in the market for an electric car I wouldn't consider a model 3 because of that.

Hear way too many horror stories from even less than 5 yr old BMW owners. I do think Benz and Audi have actually been pretty good since 2010 or so.

Car looks are subjective. People passing them around like facts or something lol.

Model3 looks nice. Looks a bit weird head on and the interior would take some getting used to but overall it's a very nice car and i wouldn't feel one ounce of shame driving one.

Only problem is I nearly fell into those giant gaps between the panels a few times. Luckily the Tesla experts on this forum warned me /s

I hate how they changed the fascia to be one solid color. the offset with the black in the earlier Model Ss were a good look. as for the Model 3, I don't find it particularly striking. aside from the slopped rear with no trunk lip, it's kinda generic to me

Agree about the model S. I think the pre-facelift model S is better looking than their current cars.

As soon as I graduate and get a job I'm buying a model 3 with the dual motor. The model 3 is a slick looking car, it looks like a Jag had a baby with a mazda 6. My only wish is that the model 3 had fancy doors.

Tesla has great looking cars, no doubt. That plus the usable ranges that they bring to alleviate range anxiety. They have a lot of tech. But like dark1x said it's weird detail shit. Like the Model 3s with the falling off rear bumpers because they didn't have drain holes. This is like, something my rear bumper on my 2003 Civic has lol.

Regular Car Reviews comment about the Tesla Model S's interior rings true to me. an upscale Nissan Altima

Having a chance to ride in a 2017 100d a few months ago I came away thoroughly unimpressed with the interior quality. Honestly I feel that the current A4, a car less than half the price runs literal circles around the Tesla in terms of interior refinement.

While I understand that it's not as important for everyone, if I'm dropping that kind of money on a car the interior quality simply would have to be better.

I recently had a Model S loaner when I took my 3 into service, and I agree the interior is unimpressive even when compare to the 3. (I love 3's minimalism FWIW.)

From my understanding, there's only been minor iterative updates to S's interior since 2012, and it's due for a major overhaul whenever they move S and X to 3's new battery tech, likely in 2020.

Someone at my job site has a Model 3. The body is charcoal coloured, with carbon fiber door handles and black rims. I pulled up beside it yesterday and took a look inside. Very cool looking car! I think asthetics is something Tesla has nailed so far. The car just looks excellent!

No question. Going from a Model X into an Audi Q5 is like stepping into a Rolls Royce.

Tesla needs interior designers asap.

Like, with the same amount of plastics and materials, they could've come up with something 100x better.

That interior is depressing to look at. Its like that central screen is sucking all the personality of the cabin. As it is its a tablet with wheels, not a car with a tablet.

That steering wheel looks straight out of a 90s Hyundai

Yeah I can't stand the Model 3's interior. Too much focus on minimalism and the tablet.

I would at least add a speedometer in the middle console (never drove it but just seems I would never get used to it on the tablet) and a few more steering wheel buttons.
