The point is they suck at content creation, point blank period. They haven't adapted at all with the times. You look at one GB video you have seen them all. I am not necessarily a fan nor subscriber of Angry Joe, I am making a comparison of subscribers and content creation. No drive or passion at all behind GB. And don't act like GB is above doing dumb shit, they do a ton of dumb shit all the time. Please dont make me list the examples, you know.
Adapt with the times? Like screaming and multiple cuts? No thanks.

I mostly listen to Giant Bomb for their end of the year round-up and their E3 coverage. I listen to EZA the rest of the year because I need a bit of optimism most of the time and they tend to stay less cynical.

I don't think so. I've watched both the Spider Man 2018 reviews from IGN and Gamespot and neither of them mentioned anything about review copies.

They do not. Only Sony-published titles come with the disclaimer.

That's because they're treated like influencers by Sony, but press by others. It's weird, but it is what it is. Greg Miller is in the same position, and has explained this on camera.

Journalistic publications are not required to disclose the receipt of review code. Greg Miller on Kinda Funny spoke on this earlier in the week: if the publisher has identified you as an "influencer" and provides you review code, then you are required by the FTC to disclose that. There is an assumed integrity among journalists (like IGN and Gamespot) which makes them an exception.
They do not. Only Sony-published titles come with the disclaimer.
That seems odd. Unless they are buying their own copies of games from other publishers, then they should be disclosing the receipt of every review code.

I really like Giant Bomb. I do, however, feel like their format can get a little stale at times. I think the 'guys sitting on the couch playing games' format is great for a lot of what they do, but I think stuff like their new review format, the PS4 unboxing, etc. could use some light editing. Even a different setting could go a long way. I'd really like to see more stuff like Abby's event vlogs because that variety is fantastic for the site.

For me personally one of the weirder things in the last 2 years is how less and less useful gaming information sites are. I still sub to Giant Bomb weekly podcast but I probably only listen to 10-15 mins of it now, some of the news bits, and 80% of it is stuff I already know. Fewer and fewer games every year have interest to me, its pretty easy to tell quickly and on my own whether I will like a game or not, and twitch has made it trivial to see thousands of slices of views of a game and find ones that match up to exactly what the way I think.

I mean this month alone I knew months ahead I will love Yakuza 2 (I have ~10 hours in), DQ XI (bought but not played), Spider-Man (picking up in 1 hour), and Tomb Raider. I've played the BF5 beta and hated it, playing the COD battle royale beta next week which will decide that game for me. I peruse a few video game topics and get all the news, and twitch supplies anything else I need including watching people play Forsaken. The game output seems so much less than years past that I don't really need much editorializing, and since I view games as an escape from reality I have zero interest in any sort of social/meta commentary on gaming like Waypoint, Polygon, etc do.

Agree with the PS4 sentiment but I'm pretty sure they'll be the first to say their priority is not journalism. I believe it was a Beastcast or two ago where they explicitly said that.

When I said their core I meant that's what they started out as vs. YouTube personalities. And while their content is way more opinionated now, they still adhere to journalistic principles, i.e. you don't see videos like this on GB.

I've seen them brought up elsewhere, too, although maybe it's still prominent here.

Perwsonally I'm not that into most of the stuff they do. I've watched a few Quick Looks over the years, seen parts of their E3 streams, and tried (and failed) getting through their Persona 4 and Deadly Premonition Endurance Runs, since those seemed to be their most popular content at the time. They're not bad, mind you, I just don't find them particularly interesting or as funny as some people do.

The one series of theirs I do keep following is Ranking of the Fighters, because I love learning about some of the forgotten or lesser konwn video games, and they frame that show in a pretty fun way. I'm not up to date with that series either, but that doesn't bother me.

Recently there was at thread here for Era's Top OK Games, and if there was a Top OK VG Websites, or something similar, Giant Bomb would be my submission.

I like them because they are silly without being gross or crude/shocker humor. They arent super serious gaming Biz people. They are just middle aged people who like games. They arent super players and they arent mandated to play a game ad-nausea for a company.

One thing I wish they would give in more to the youtuber thing is to cover more bad/weird games. The best video content they do is stuff like the Motorbike quicklook, the Whipeout games, Vinny smashing his hands on the deak in VR, Vinny in hitman, ect. Them ragging on mediocre/bad games and the glitches is my perfect style of humor.

I also prefer when they are less serious and talk about random stupid stuff like food, local laws, weather, pets, life stories, ect. Talking about games is boring, I can take their entire 120min gaming related content/news talk and get the same info/impressions digested in 15 minutes here just bumming through threads on my break.

They are great people though. Wholesome and genuine personalities are fun to be around/listen to. They arent shills and they arent pandering for subs/likes like 99% of youtube gamers pretending to be nice or your "friend."

I like EZA but some of the decisions they make leave a sour taste in my mouth, most notably their "review copy provided by playstation" disclaimers. It's not a great look to treat a specific publisher/console manufacturer differently than all the others when it comes to reviews.

I think Sony is very strict, requiring the disclaimer. Not all publishers are as strict.

Love the backseat content producing in this thread as though GB doesn't have access to the metrics on their own site and can make decisions on what to produce and what to skip. They definitely keep making those unboxing videos because nobody watches them, that's for certain.

It's pretty simple. They're a great mix of the modern personality-driven content, but with decades of industry experience, knowledge, and connections

I've listened to and watched Giant Bomb content for most of my adult life. It would be insane to stop now.

Giant Bomb are made of great personalities.Guys and gals I would gladly hang out with.
They are knowledgeable in all of gaming and always try to think about how what impacts in which way.
I like how they not flip out and go full on hype like any other site/person but stay rather calm, while
the can still clearly be passionate about things in and around games.
They don't take themselves serious and treat games, as the medium, still as games. Not overly serious if it doesn't need to.

I love GB. The staff are always great to listen too and I like the diverse opinions they have on games. Once they bin Alex Navarro, I'll gladly sub.

I see. So either they play ball and disclose the review copy from Sony, or they refuse to make an exception for a single publisher and get their own copy upon release.

Not unless, like eddy said, those other publishers view them as press rather than influencers, which seems to be the case.

I still don't think it's a great look. But that's just me.

Prime Giant Bomb during the basement ofice years were just the best. And Vinny is still a national treasure.

I love GB, but I wish they'd bin Jason and Rorie

Rorie is awesome, i probably would listen to the whole podcast again if he was more in it. These days i just go to the timestamps i find intereting and skip the rest.

This is just an insane post. Do musicians of genres you don't enjoy "suck at content creation"? I know you'll claim to have loved GB up until some certain point, and love other VG related content, but that doesn't matter. You don't have any basis for making such objective statements about the quality of content that is so well received and does so well for them.

I promise you I'm not reading a single reply to this thread as this is not a discussion. This is people whining about something they don't like. I don't like a single YouTuber. Not the style of content I'm looking for. I can still recognize that some of them are crazy talented and respect their hard work. The idea that I'd waste my time and energy hating on them for not being what I'm looking for... like I said, insane.

More ppl in this thread are actually praising GB. And it's no claim, I loved the old GB stuff. Ok, GB works really really hard for putting out dated looking, mundane material. Vinny and Drew probably had some crazy ideas on where to take future content. I feel that spirit died when Vinny went east and Drew left.

Its just that they're genuinely funny and entertaining but more importantly, they're very real in their reactions to things. I'm hyped beyond reason for Smash Ultimate and these guys won't even give it the time of day. I don't understand how you can dislike smash but seeing them not jump on the bandwagon and hold their opinions makes me respect them.

So I'll continue listening to what they have to say even if I generally only agree with Dan's opinions these days.

Even more, they're one of the most progressive voices in gaming.

But also, after seeing how most of Era couldn't understand their ranking of fighters series, I wouldn't bother bringing them up here. That was rather embarrassing.

I've followed them since the start, so a lot of it is just inertia at this point. There was a real 'golden age' around 2008-2011 that I still sometimes go back to, with just great podcasts and quick looks.

I think GB popped up at a time when making video content about games was just forming and also benefited from the demise of 1up as lots of people were looking for a new 'personality driven' outlet that put out podcasts and videos on the regular based around a small group of people. GB fit that mold perfectly and ran with it.

I will say that lately I have almost entirely stopped watching West content as I feel the crew there just doesn't gel together well anymore. They really needed a new big personality to fit in with Brad and Jeff, but instead they got some people that just stay quiet or don't really add a lot to the group. Ben tries hard but he's still doing that 'emulate my superiors' thing that you would expect an intern turned hire to do.

The East crew however is doing awesome and I watch/listen to almost everything from there. They just have the chemistry down perfectly. They were extremely fortunate to get Bakalar who bounces great off of Vinny and then Austin was a great addition as well. Abby has also added a lot to that crew and for me it's basically the best GB content you can get now.

I think I'm still into GB after almost ten years because I knew them in their prime with the podcast lineup of Ryan, Jeff, Vinny and Brad. Nothing beats that. I have fond memories of listening to the Bombcast every November, raking leaves outside and listening to the Bombers discuss the big new games of the season. November '11 especially stands out, with discussions of Uncharted 3, Skyrim and Dark Souls. RIP, Ryan. I miss you.

Giant Bomb approaches the industry with the exact amount of excitement and authenticity it deserves. It is refreshing in an age of social media to see a group of people not jump out of their seats for every bullshot and trailer that gets released for something that has even the most nominal of name recognition. The fact that their content appeals to me greatly is just gravy.

They seem to be good human beings and they have fun playing games.

Also I like how knowledgeable of the gaming they are.

The main reason is that they've been a constant for a decade while most other personalities and podcasts are have come and gone. And aside from their GOTY recordings, which are a trash fire that need to be completely overhauled, their content is consistently good.

Everyone's allowed to have an opinion but sometimes you should keep it to yourself. Coming around and saying a company should fire someone just because you don't like them, especially a person who has been open about their depression and anxiety issues, it's honestly just fucking gross.

I've been following Jeff's vg coverage since I was 13, that was 17 years ago, I kinda grew up with this crew and I see no other outlet that even compares to their insight and honesty. They also don't waste your time and are quite funny. what's not to like.
