So if there are any leaks (from automated twitter bots or whatever else) I guess we should expect them close to 6:30pm ET tonight at the earliest.

Direct will happen before Tuesday when Famitsu leaks.

When is Famitsu out in Japan? I think that the Direct will surely air before that date, I don't know if they will consider the fact that Famitsu will leak. If I'm not wrong, something similar happened in the past for some Pokémon reveals, where Famitsu leaked before an official video.

Oh gawd. Not that I have any authority but I would rather this thread be about the content we may see in and around this direct and not what constitutes a "leak."

Until the actual direct I'm just going to use the universal "news." Famitsu, early video, secret screenshot, trademark listing - "News"

So, could someone explain the Famitsu situation? If there's not a new direct by the time their new issue releases, are they able to publish stuff about the delayed direct?

They run a print magazine so whatever was supposed to be in their next issue next week has already been printed and likely can't be retracted on such short notice. Tuesdays are when the magazines typically leak.

We don't even know for sure if Famitsu would have info from the direct in it.

We don't know for sure, but its pretty likely- the Direct in all likelihood has Japanese 3rd party stuff in it, especially given its proximity to TGS, and its very standard for famitsu to get initial details/blowouts after formal reveals.

Yeah that prediction was off the wall, but not out of the realm of possibility. Square getting Final Fantasy ports onto the system (especially after Octopath's success) would be easy money.

People got pissy after the announcement of FFVII on PS4 being a direct port of the PC version, which is pretty much the original release from 1997 with some fixes, modern OS compatibility and a cheat engine included. I doubt they want to make the same mistake again. People are also mad at them for giving FFV and FFVI the "RPG Maker" treatment after doing proper remakes with III and IV.

Why would a weekly magazine print their stuff so soon though? Shouldn't that happen during the week end or something? It's more likely that they would be able to retract whatever they had on the direct.

The Netherlands
Famitsu releases on Thursday and the leaks usually happen on Wednesday morning JST.

My personal expectation is the Direct has to happen on Wednesday 7am JST (so Tuesday same time slot for America) in order to stay "leak-safe".

Yeah it's been port city this year
It's time for new games

Hard to believe the only new first party games we're getting this year are Kirby, Mario Tennis, Mario Party, Pokemon Let's Go, and Smash.

Fortunately there's been tons in the way of third parties and indies to fill in the gaps, but it's hard to deny the port-heaviness.

It just seems very unlikely to me that famitsu would be willing to completely change their issue on such short notice. Direct stuff could constitute a nice chunk of the planned content. The much simpler solution is Nintendo presents the Direct before Tuesday.

So then do we really think they would have already printed direct stuff almost a week in advance? For a weekly magazine? Seems unlikely.

Thread title makes it sound like they stealth dropped a Direct. I guess they did "un-announce" it...

That still is 9/11 which i don't think is an appropiate release for a direct either, Wenesday or Thursday US time seems more likely sandly for Nintendo, it really is a tough situation

You just remove some articles, doesn't sound so bad. These kind of last minute changes must happen all the time in their line of work. Don't quite understand what so special about them that they can't change something with a week notice.
